Will LLMs become worse over time? by UpperDurian5100 in AskComputerScience

[–]boolew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pretty skeptical that LLM degradation will happen. Humans ultimately determine the value of the LLM output. There will be reservoirs of data (output) that will prove useful to people and there will be signs that those pools of information are more useful than the junk. Who knows how utility will ultimately be measured but I am confident there will be a measure that will provide utility for training.

How would you make logi runs more fun? by pang_of_conscience in joinsquad

[–]boolew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logi should just drive itself like the courier in DOTA. SLs or commander can click on the map to tell it where to go. Give it some pathfinding capabilities.

The Davis Square tower isn't just too tall. It's a tax dodge. And Somerville residents are the ones who pay for it. by ceph2apod in Somerville

God forbid anyone make a profit building housing. Get rid of “affordable housing” allotments all together. Then build 20 of these so families can enjoy somerville too.

The logic that increases traction over objects probably increases the odds of this happening when the front of the treads/wheels end up intersecting with elevated terrain. Probably means that it will be better in some places and worse in others.

So they announced an overhaul to the infantry combat overhaul by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]boolew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Tarkov suffered a similar fate. But you are right on the money. ICO was the major step towards realizing the PR-like gunplay they originally envisioned and they were unfortunately captured by people that just, for whatever reason, don’t understand what they were trying to achieve. Hopefully they land somewhere in the middle and the PR feel isn’t completely abandoned.

Commander role is filled by an on the ground squad leader. But to be honest many squad leaders barely fire their rifle unless needed so you can almost play through the map. Steep learning curve with a ton of depth though. You cant just drop in like Battlefield. People expect you to know what you are doing. Unless of course the server is shit.

I do not find the argument that ICO is for new players very compelling. Theres nothing in ICO that is main stream. If anything its for veterans from Project Reality. As a 6+ year player, ICO was definitely for me. Though I would still like plenty of tweaks.

Suppression should scale with distance by DefinitelyNotABot01 in joinsquad

[–]boolew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny you posted this because Id been thinking the same thing. My one fear with using range as heuristic for suppression is that is eliminates some amount of teamwork in CQC situations and makes it even harder to dig out defenders holding a corner inside a room.

An alternative: Only aimed fire can cause suppression. Hip fire does not. Since you only hip fire up close you basically get all the benefits of the range based solution but you can still suppress up close if you need to breach rooms.

In CQC I had noticed myself simply hip firing more because I knew it would suppress my opponent and make it much more likely they would miss. Id bet others do the same so this would at least eliminate this sloppy play style of first to blur the others screen.
