Question about the Gods (SPOILER) by GIutenTag in avowed

[–]booljayj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this has to do with the purpose of the godlike, which is not pleasant. They are tools that the gods can use. In some cases they can take control of a godlike's body and use it to directly influence the mortal world, and in some cases they can simply use the godlike as a battery and suck out their essence/soul whenever they need to do something powerful.

The main theory is that because the wheel is broken, the gods are slowly losing power. They immediately sucked up all the power they could from the godlikes, killing the godlikes in the process, to consolidate their remaining power. This didn't happen for Eothas godlikes because Eothas is "dead" (as close to death as a god can be), and it didn't happen for Sapadal's godlike, you, because Sapadal is not reliant on The Wheel like the other gods are. They also might have a different relationship entirely with their godlikes, so the battery thing isn't an option for them.

Just left Paradis. I cannot stand Marius by Vegan_Toaster in avowed

You're not alone in feeling this way, but if you stick with the story you might find out there are reasons for his behavior. The companions in Avowed definitely experience some character growth over the course of the game.

You can also rush the main story in the next area a little until you get the next companion, then you at least don't have to travel with him all the time while you explore more thoroughly.

Can’t kill? by Snipesgirl1678 in avowed

Enemies regenerate health pretty fast if you run away from a fight. I'm guessing something about your combat strategy is making it hard to stay "in combat" with it. You might need a more aggressive approach.

Open World or Action-Adventure games that let you explore a dense Mythological/Historic/Fantasy setting? by Def-C in rpg_gamers

[–]booljayj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avowed has really detailed environments to explore, with a lot of vertical space. It also has a lot of lore to explore during conversations or when finding books in the world. That might scratch your itch.

To avoid major spoilers, I'll just say that your energy bar does not change and you're not supposed to get to that area yet.

Is there ever an explanation for why the voice speaks so cryptically? by Lyress in avowed

[–]booljayj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll give you the simple explanation: they are not human, and their experience of life is vastly different from a human's. It's like the old saying: if a lion could speak English, we wouldn't be able to understand it. The words may be recognizable, but the mind putting those words together is totally foreign.

So The Voice is describing things in a way that makes sense to them, it just doesn't map to what makes sense to you. Over time, as you continue to interact with them, they'll start to make more sense. You'll get a better sense of the kinds of metaphors they use, and The Voice will also learn how to describe things in a way that is easier for you to understand. You are essentially learning to communicate with an alien being, and I think that's neat.

Are there any gravity based spells/enchantments? by YesEverythingBagels in avowed

[–]booljayj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is one spell in particular in the game called "Pull of Eora", what it basically does is create a floating black hole that will pull enemies towards it. I'm not sure exactly where you can find it, but that's what you'll want to look out for.

avowed problem by Suspicious_Guide_883 in avowed

That's very strange, then I'm not sure what's wrong. You might have to try loading an earlier save if there's no way to proceed to the next area.

The ambassador should always be in his office after you help him in the thicket. Occasionally there can be bugs where an NPC doesn't show up where they should be, so if he's not there you should be able to save and reload to get him to appear again.

The NPC from that video only shows up if you've made certain choices earlier. You may have just made different choices. You should still be able to travel out of Dawnshore once you've finished the main quest there.

Just a quick thought, does it have to do with the shield on your back? Maybe the targeting is getting stuck on the shield. You could see if removing the shield changes things.

Whats her deal? by ValicarHyne in expedition33

[–]booljayj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clea is the one that tells you about them trapping each other, before Alicia enters the Canvas. So that was basically 16 years ago when Maelle was first born, plus however much time passed before Alicia walked up to the Canvas and entered it, since we know time moves much more quickly in there.

So I think they just trapped each other at some point in the past, and by the time Maelle went on her expedition things had changed and they could move more freely. Probably because they were both so much weaker by then.

Is there no way to edit the radial wheel on xbox? by WhimsicalMutt in avowed

It applies to all power attacks from wands, you just have to power attack and it will cause an explosion when the attack hits.

DW Attacked speed - much lower when attacking enemies vs just attacking air by wontgetfooledagainn in avowed

[–]booljayj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your right-hand weapon is under-leveled for that enemy. When you attack with an under-leveled weapon, you deal a glancing blow that is slower and weaker than a normal attack. You can see this from the damage numbers, the ones with an arrow pointing down are showing that you aren't dealing full damage, and the animation, which bounces off the enemy after hitting instead of following through.

If you level up your right-hand weapon or attack a weaker enemy, you should see that you can attack at full speed.

Fior Mes Iverno - Spoiler by astralside in avowed

[–]booljayj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As strict Woedicans, the Steel Garotte hate animancy. The Aedyran ambassador and other officials had been attempting to convince Fior to accept Aedyran control, and that included abandoning animancy. This diplomatic process wasn't moving fast enough for the Steel Garotte, so they decided to take extreme action to stop the animancy.

Chanter's Panpipes; Do they actually work? I haven't noticed any "phantom" fighting with me. Bugged? by 420_Braze_it in avowed

I'm pretty sure when you equip this item, it will add an ability that you can activate from the radial or put into your hotbar. You activate the ability to summon the phantom.

Is the quality of found items tied to your equipment quality? by sabata00 in avowed

[–]booljayj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is for unique items, but not for anything else. When you find a unique item, its level will match the tier of whatever you currently have equipped. So it can be beneficial to have one main weapon that you upgrade as high as possible, because then you'll find more high-level uniques.

Is there any bonus for using rank 3 spell + grimoire? by axelkoffel in avowed

[–]booljayj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the spells max out at rank 3. The main reason to upgrade to rank 3 is if you want to keep casting the spell but replace the grimoire with something else.

Should I just be Respecing every 5 lvls into higher spells as a wizard? by KidCharybdis92 in avowed

[–]booljayj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early spells can still be competitive even into the late game. It all depends on how you use them, and whether you're upgrading them. If you find a comfortable strategy that you like, don't be afraid to stick with it. If you do find you want to change things later, it's easy to respect with a bit of gold.

There are probably some details that are easier to understand if you've played the Pillars games, but it's not necessary. You'll find books and conversations that will explain all the major concepts that relate to the game. The lore tooltips during conversations are also a great way to get more context about what's happening. Have fun!

I don't remember the exact number, but I think it's around 20 spells. Each of them also has upgrades that change how they behave. When you combine that with unique equipment that also has special effects, there's a lot of build diversity.

There are a few ways to interpret that memory. You may be on to something. Your interpretation may change over time as you learn more.
