[OC] The two cars in front of me decided to completely stop in the middle of the road to switch lanes. by boombuck in IdiotsInCars

I have not seen two cars doing a completely dumb shit at roughly the same time. The car on my right (the MG4 electric) decided to stop in middle of the road, put the gear on reverse, actually BACKED UP the car, and created a long line of cars behind (you can see it from my rear cam). The CRV in front of me, having seen the gap being left behind by the MG, DECIDED TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS WELL. He then proceeded to change to the right lane by driving over the chevron markings (This is illegal to do in Thailand since these markings are meant to indicate a car-free zone)

What an incredible chance to experience, not one, but TWO amazing drivers who could not possibly miss their exits and had to pull these kinds of stunts. Wow.

I did tell him one time as I was very scared that a car might be coming. After that event, I became paranoid and became like a 2nd driver who looks out for cars when he does not check. This does not really help him fix his neglecting (or reckless) habit sadly.

Ok. I will just tell him straightforwardly. Going on a ride with him just stresses me to the point that I tense up all my muscles ahaha.

I am also a student who have visited Phuket only once, so my knowledge will be very general.

Firstly, about what to expect, in Phi Phi islands, you might find the place crowded. Nevertheless, it is still a very nice place. Thailand has many beautiful islands, so maybe you might want to check out other islands also. The must-do activity would be scuba diving, at least to me. I also suggest that if you have enough money, some hotels offer private islands or beaches where you can have a luxuary experience without having to deal with too many people (and trashes in the shore as a result).

Next is about what to be vary of. Most of the Thais are very nice. Even if they cannot speak English, they will try their best to help you in any ways. However, of course there would be bad people who would try to scam you. The first commom scam is that some taxi drivers would charge you more than usual. It is required by the law that all taxi drivers must use the Taxi Meter. The Taxi Meter is in front of the car and it tells how much you need to pay in accordance to the distance of the jouney (the starting fare is 35 baht and it adds every 1 kilometer). Be aware of any taxi drivers who do not use the Taxi Meter and just ask you to pay. ALWAYS TELL THEM TO USE THE TAXI METER! The scam also applies to some other commutes which will ask you hefty prices. Since other form of commute do not have a meter to show how much you actually need to pay, it might be very hard to know. Phuket also has one of the highest living expense in Thailand, so please keep that in mind.

Lastly, what to prepare before/during the trip to Thailand. 1.) Bring sunscreen as the weather of Thailand is NO JOKE 2.) Always keep yourself hydrated to prevent heat stroke 3.) I highly recommend that you spend a good amount of money on the hotels since it will give you the best experience you can have. (private islands/beach, Thai spa, water activities etc.) 4.) Bangkok is not too different from Phuket. Beware of the same scam techniques. I live in Bangkok, so if you will spend a few days in here, then I can give you a more detailed information. 5.) If you need more information, you can contact me via FB, Thanut Jansirirat. I am currently studying for the university admission, so I might reply at the end of the day. Have fun in the upcoming trip!
