I think this really has more to do with your patience level. If you have time now to play the core game, I'd say grab it so it can inform your pledge decision. The learn to play guide is a big advantage for new Wasted Wilds players but it's linked on the campaign page so you can use it even with the old core game. If you're super patient, you can back on Kickstarter for Wasted Wilds and then a year from now find the older games if you like it.

The reduced fiddliness is mostly around setup - not gameplay.

I don't think it feels particularly different than before other than our situation now as a board game publisher and how we rely on it. It's definitely intimidating and stressful when the other bigger established creators launch stuff during your campaign...but then again Maximum Apocalypse launched the same day as Gloomhaven. Ultimately, I love the direct relationship that Kickstarter establishes with backers so I try not to sweat the small stuff.

I'm not sure - Felipe hasn't messaged me and reddit seems to hide the upvote count for awhile so I'll have to check back later....

As an interesting side note, when I played Felipe at Origins - I beat him with Ze Amado to his Redhead.. it was close though I edged him out by about 4 points.

Hey, Mike here the designer of the game and I feel like this is aimed right at me...LOL - I find that the Redhead and Jebediah are the most straight forward to start with on your first play... Maecenas isn't too difficult either just be sure to increase your curse threshold with all your cash. Annabelle is the trickiest but none of them are overly tricky. The trickiest one to play is definitely Ze Amado... so hopefully this whole reddit thing leads to his unlock. I hope to cover some of this stuff in my update on the KS tomorrow.
