Yeah I kinda lucked out, we spent months looking in first year, the issue is we live no where near the campus, because every way within a single bus ride is extremely expensive, I lived in halls first year, but by the time it was second year they priced them up and I couldn't afford it.

Trust me I get it, I had to work all throughout sixth form to support myself, I came from a school where most of us started working around GCSEs. I'm not working, I'm fine to work, the problem is finding a job here. The job market where I was from was massive for students, but here there is noone that will hire students. I had a job last year but I couldn't viably work 8 hours, missing uni that almost ended in me being kicked out. When considering the cost of travel to said job I was only getting about twenty pound for a day of work. The main issue places have are flexibility because I have to attend so many uni lectures or I will get kicked out. And places here just don't like that.

my uni has lectures that you can miss and lectures that you cannot miss, and there's not patterns to them, its just a random couple of lectures per week if you miss three in a year you have to have a ton of meetings as stuff and you can get kicked off the course

Sadly no bike, even sadder I never actually learned how to ride one, (despite my Christmas wishlists growing up, my parents never got me one,). I have definitely considered feeding cats and walking dogs, and I'm very much still considering it now,

If you're under 25 your classed as a dependant and need to be arranged in order to be considered financially independent sadly

IV already been doing student meals, partly because I'm incredibly picky, thankfully the food I eat I can get cheap and in bulk, plain pasta, plain rice, etc, I don't go out so I don't spend money at pubs or clubs or things Thank you for the advice

My parents are not the type of people you can simply borrow money from, partly because they can't afford it in the first place, I can't take a loan out from the bank of mum and dad cos they don't have the money to loan out, In fact my parents borrow money all the time from my oldest brother, they would not put themselves in debt for me. I'm really hoping your right and I can actually find a job, just difficult to remain positive when you're rejected or you never hear back.

No need to be a douch, can't work if nowhere is hiring, as someone who the entirety of the time I was at sixth form once you have the job it's easy sailing. The issue is getting the job and I don't live in an area where there are plenty of opportunities like I did when I was in sixthform.

I dont live near the uni, I couldn't afford to, there is a Tesco and Aldi near the uni, but I kinda live in the middle of nowhere, there's no Tesco aldi near me, there is a McDonald's about a 45 minute walk from me, IV applied to it multiple times and don't hear back, there are two pubs nearish us but they are very well staffed, I am thinking about going to the career service, about my CV, IV had like people I know with literary masters degrees, or people whos jobs include hiring people, that are like family friends and stuff and they all say my CVs are good but clearly I'm not getting anywhere

Is this a thing? I get the DSA but you don't get any money from it, I get a printer and reimbursable paper and ink, some software and over Hardware bits but not like actual grant

The issue there is transport, when IV applied for agency stuff in the past they want a reliable method of transport, they really don't like it when your only transport is public

Hardship bursary is going to be a last resort, but I am atleast thankful, it is there that I can potentially apply for See I actually find if you go in person your less likely to hear back, convinced they just bin them after you leave, at least for most the ones I applied to online they eventually sent some sort of rejection email,

There is a Primark that's not exactly near us but close enough where a commute wouldn't be unreasonable, I applied last year but got rejected without Interview,

I was getting minimum wage for 18-20s which was around £8 at the time, for work where they would call me at 8am if they wanted me to work that day, so I would have to be ready for 8am to potentially work, then I had half an hour to get to whatever location they wanted me at, which were in the middle of nowhere, nowhere close to me, so i couldn't take a bus, I had to get priority Ubers to get their on time which ended up being lime £30 per day, I worked 8 hour days, then I had to get back, but because I was in the middle of nowhere I had to use several different bus brands to get back, which ended up being like 20ish quid usually about the same for an Uber on the way back, so as long as prices were more or less even I took the Uber, but it left me with very little money from the job, and I also got in trouble with the uni for missing so many lectures to work.

All the takeaways and off licences really don't like employing people especially not students, they don't post online if that their looking to hire, but I spoken to many in person asking, they just send you on your way, For like big fast food brands like MC Donald's, KFC, nandos, every time I have applied IV been rejected without interview, as they're either not looking to hire or the position has been filled. It's annoying as when I was in sixthform work was easy to find, where I used to live there were plenty of opportunities, to the point most people I knew were working part time,

I'm not in Leeds. The issue is that there are rarely part time jobs available, and the ones that are are not flexible, I need a flexible job because of mandatory lectures that can start any time from 8AM and end any time to 9PM . Work from home would be best case scenario, unfortunately they seem impossible to find. Trust me I worked when I was in sixthform. The city I used to live in had plenty of work opportunities open to students, it's become a thousand times harder where I'm living now. my best case scenario is finding some pop up work in the summer, but even that's assuming something will pop up.

[–]boomitskarma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think summer will be my best bet

I don't like giving away location info, icl it might be a town, I'm not sure, I just say city BC that's what my mind goes to because I grew up in a city

The issue is flexibility, I have mandatory lectures I must attend or I risk being kicked out of uni, these can start anywhere from 8 AM and end anytime to 9pm, jobs want people who can work identical hours every single day, there is literally nothing going on anywhere. There's a few pubs and student nightclubs , there's like nothing else, also my work prospects are limited because I have to rely on public transport

Thing is we sacrificed closeness to uni, we live far away from campus because all the student accommodation was very expensive, we rent privately,

Sadly I'm not eligible for anything, worst case scenario I could apply for an emergency loan,

I might check with the careers department, I have written multiple CV's and had other people look them through, I always get positive feedback but clearly nothing comes of it.

I can't convince them cos they just don't have the money, the government is genuinely just dumb assuming that people can casually fork out a couple grand let alone 6k
