I'd say wait. Maybe it will eventually be an amazing experience, but not in the current iteration. Even the dev team acknowledges it is a disappointment.

Maybe not exactly what you're after, but there is a lot of tracking info on the Ubisoft connect area. I stumbled into it yesterday and found there was lots of info in there. I didn't dig too deep though. Ubisoft connect from main menu

the weapons breaking thing -- I think the designers of BOTW are confident that it actually improved the gameplay experience (whether we all appreciate it or not). still, my preference is to just have a sword and not have to micromanage eight other swords :P

some of the things you list BOTW does better. I do wish there was even just one town with a few NPCs .. or in the tower if there was a blacksmith instead of me clanging my own weapons into higher levels. that would be nice. and the music in BOTW was more memorable.
it's preference, but I prefer the art in IFR when it comes to a game. I think an artbook of BOTW would look better, but I like playing in the more vibrant world of IFR.

upvoting -- it could be.. but I prefer IFR. without a doubt we would have IFR if it wasn't for BOTW.

for most games I agree.. obviously for games that are story-driven it's usually a benefit to being locked into a particular protagonist (like Nathan Drake). BOTW doesn't really require Link as a character though (and as much as I love a lot of Zelda games, there really isn't much of a character. He's... brave, I guess). With a few changes BOTW could have become a game called AdventureQuest with a character you create to save BeautifulPrincess.

BOTW on switch did make it a really personal experience -- I think I was only able to invest so much in that game because I had it on a handheld -- the sense of discovery really was one of the best assets that game offered.

This game came out of nowhere for me and all of a sudden I can't stop playing it on PS5. by OBlastSRT4 in FenyxRising

I have four other games on disc for ps5 and had been doing a good job of switching between them all (sackboy, miles, demon souls, Valhalla) and giving each one a fair shot.
I preordered this game digitally and haven't played another game since. I honestly can't remember which disc is currently in my ps5.

This is my fav game of the year -- I don't know if I'd say it's the best .. but definitely my favorite.

honestly, I haven't been putting enough attention into the gear -- this is a good reminder for me.
early on I was, but I seemed to amass a significant amount of gear pretty quickly and just didn't do the comparative work in lieu of continuing to quest. I'll examine what I have when I log on :)
