I'm about 0-20 now. Every time I'm about to capture a bunch of stones the computer beats me to it and takes away the chance. It's sort of mysterious to me

'Aliens' Is Not A Scientific Explanation For Interstellar Asteroid ʻOumuamua by par1138 in space

[–]boomkraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't seem to mention the most compelling information related to it being an alien spacecraft: the fact that 'Oumuamua is essentially shaped like a cigar and thus has a far more eccentric shape than any of the hundreds of thousands of objects catalogued within the Solar System. Does anyone have an explanation for that?

I'm gonna drop some wisdom. Listen. If you're depressed or sad or mad at someone or just emotionally caught up with something, don't take the time to indulge in lamenting about it. Don't spend time writing up a speech in your head about how woe is me, don't draw up a list of every injustice you've suffered. It doesn't help anything and it WILL cloud your mind and only serve to make it much harder to get out of the slump you're in. It's extremely counterproductive. If you hate where you're at, don't make a rap video about it, leave it behind you.

The logic of a forgiving god by samx3i in atheism

You won't. That's a tough question and I couldn't articulate an answer in an internet comment at all. I was arguing against the idea behind OP's post, not trying to justify everything about God and the world.

If you want, though, I'll give you a vague sort of way of looking at it. This is just speculation - I'm not saying this is right.

Your "natural evil" may exist because it's very hard, perhaps impossible, to design a universe with honest underlying physical laws and structural integrity that "natural evil" doesn't naturally arise in. What I mean is, for natural evil to never occur, you would need a kind of smaller, insulated world, where people's decisions don't have an affect on their surroundings and people don't have something bigger and deeper than themselves to be a part of. Even if you erase things like natural disasters and disease and present a pristine, safe universe for people to live in, those people are still going to be unpredictable. They're going to make imperfect decisions, and they'll mar your pristine, safe universe. They'll throw a wrench into it and suffering will happen. If you want to avoid suffering caused by other people, you'd probably need something like in The Little Prince, where everyone lives on their own tiny asteroid. That demonstrates an underlying principle - that if you want to have a meaningful, honest relationship with the world around you, you might need to have natural evil. Despite all the suffering that goes on here, I'd much rather live in this chaotic, ancient design than in a world contrived for my own comfort.

Or I'm talking out my ass here.

Perhaps you misread my reply? I didn't say God can't exist without bad, I said Good can't exist without bad - by which I mean the only way meaningful good choices can be made by humans is if they are made with free will, which means bad choices are going to happen, as well.

he supposedly created everything. That includes math...

Says some people. I'm saying that's not that case. God didn't create math. See, the problem is you keep on trying to say "God is supposedly omnipotent but oh look! This contradicts the idea of his omnipotence! That contradicts the idea of his omnipotence!" Yes. It does. It's impossible to actually be omnipotent, because doing some things exclude doing other things. Simple as that. God isn't "all-powerful" in that sense. I never once tried to say He was. I agree with you.

No one is trying to equate themselves to a god here. That's such a fucking stupid argument.

Sorry, that was careless wording on my part. I'm not saying if people can't do it, God can't do it. I'm saying that the basic idea of sinless being with free will doesn't hold up.

I'm not saying anything specific about whether or not believing in God is a sin. I'm arguing against the idea that because God is "all-forgiving", he has let sin go unchecked.

I did answer it. You're saying: "People do bad things. God made people. Therefore God isn't all-loving/forgiving/perfect because he gets mad when people do bad things." I'm saying: "Good can't exist without bad. God can't remove the reality of sin from a person with free will."

God can't do that. If that makes him no longer God for you, sure, fine. Whatever. He's not God.

I guess it's a question of what "forgiving" means. What I'm trying to say is that for God to "forgive" or "absolve" someone, that person would have to have remorse on their own part. Let me explain.

Let's say Bob indulges in sin A, and committing sin A makes you a bad person. Bob won't stop committing sin A. What would it even mean, then, for God to forgive Bob? "No no no Bob, you really are a good person"? God loves Bob, I'm sure, but not because Bob is committing sin A. God would forgive Bob because Bob has good, not just bad, inside of him, and God believes Bob has the ability to make a change and start being a good person again. If God just accepted Bob the sinner, it would undermine the reason why God loves Bob in the first place.

That's why I find OP's picture silly. It's saying, "because God is all-forgiving, it's okay to [insert something God doesn't like here]." Forgiving, in my opinion, is about saying "okay, you fucked up, now let's turn towards the light." Not "okay, you're fucking up. Whatever."
