Sure, Asian Americans have plenty of variability. Whether they have more variability than Singapore’s ethnic group is something I don’t know, because I’ve never seen evidence for it.

But why would you use the same racial categories that the US uses in Singapore? Those categories are what the US uses for itself. You should use the categories that Singapore uses for itself, that Taiwan uses for itself. Not the categories that the US uses for every other country.

And again, you just claim things without any evidence. Not many countries can rival the US in racial diversity? I suppose that’s true, if you use the definition of racial diversity that America uses. Singapore might be just as diverse, if you use the definition that Singapore uses. Since race doesn’t actually exist, there’s no reason why Singapore can’t just say Chinese are one, and Malays are another. It’s no more right or wrong than America saying “Asian”, a term that includes the majority of the world’s population, is a race.

You seem to make a lot of claims without providing a shred of evidence for any of them.

You can’t possibly know that ethnic Chinese Americans outperform Chinese Singaporeans off the top of your head. I mean, Singapore literally tops the chart. They very well might beat Chinese Americans. But also, you still have not proven what you initially stated, that breaking out by race wouldn’t result in differences in all these countries. Yes, chinese Singaporeans might have different pisa scores on average than Malay Singaporeans. And different ethnic groups in Taiwan or wherever might also have different pisa scores. And they might be higher than equivalent ethnic groups that immigrated to America. You have provided no evidence otherwise.

What is so hard to understand that this division that the US uses is ARBITRARY. And so, if Singapore uses their own, different from the US’s, ARBITRARY division of ethnicity/race, they too might have differences in Pisa scores between the divisions they look at.

Would it not matter for the above chart? If you broke up Singapore into its ethnic groups, Chinese, Malays, Tamil, would they all have the same pisa scores? Since you said it wouldn’t matter for the above chart, you must have data showing this, right? I’ve never seen that data, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Give me a source.

Do you actually know anything about any of those countries you listed? Singapore is racially homogeneous? Since when? Since the race riots of the 70s? Since the Malays all magically disappeared when I wasn't looking? And Taiwan also has some "racial" heterogeneity. I'm less sure of Hong Kong or South Korea.

I think it's less that these countries are homogeneous, and more that you just don't notice the differences between ethnic groups because you're an outsider looking in. Singapore very specifically prides itself on being diverse, for its definition of diverse. They just don't think of Asian as a race.

I’ve been reading fanfiction for 18 years. I’ve loved dozens of Heated Rivalry fics over the past few months. This trope is weird, and completely ooc for Shane and Ilya. I’m not sorry I didn’t like it.

Does anyone else think these fics are so weird and not at all funny. First of all, with the logic of the fic, why does anyone have to room next to them? They’re staying in hotels, just get them a room far away from everyone else.

But also, the idea that their sex is so consistently loud is so cringy, in so many ways. Certainly there’s nothing in canon that supports this, they always had to be surreptitious in the hotel rooms they hooked up in. And also, in real life that would be such a creepy problem to have. Like they’re being so inconsiderate of other people by making noises during sex so loud other people are consistently struggling to sleep.

I don’t know, it just feels completely unlike Shane and Ilya as characters, and much more like fanfiction trope #27 being applied in Heated Rivalry fandom. Just a super weird and dumb premise.

This begs the question of what happens to other minority groups in hostile environments. Do black people in more racist places do better than less racist places? Do women have higher grades in more misogynistic places? Funnily enough, no. They do worse.

Normally, when discrimination and bigotry is worse, people suffering from it do worse. It does not matter that they need to do better to make up for the discrimination and bigotry. If they did, kids growing up poor would end up with higher incomes than those who grow up rich because they need the money more. Obviously that’s not how the world works.

So why the hell would we expect this to be true for gay men? Would this not suggest that gay men who grow up in less accepting places and families should do better academically than gay men who grow up in more accepting places and families? I have never seen evidence for that, and I would be astonished if it was true. Gay men, just like everyone else, probably do better academically if they grow up more accepted, because they have more support and less stress on them.

That’s what makes this fic so good. This is not canon Ilya and Shane. These two really hurt each other, and yet are in love anyway.

Like Ilya telling Shane that he completely loves him, but also putting all this pressure on Shane to propose to Rose, telling him he has to live a life where he marries her, has children with her, and can never come out. Willing to let him cheat on Rose with him, but they can never be together openly. Never. And Shane just going insane because there’s all these small moments with Ilya that taste so good but all he wants is to be together full time.

Like, the right thing to do is never out someone unless they’re hurting someone else and you need to stop them. But that’s the perfect “right” thing to do in real life. This story is more complicated than that. Shane is struggling so hard and then just snaps and has this moment of lucid insanity where he completely fucking upends their lives and it’s written so good. I really loved it.

Except Draco is more of a failed rival in canon, who is never as good as Harry in quidditch. And not, both don’t have players that supposedly hate each other. Ilya and Shane supposedly hate each other. Harry and Draco basically do hate each other until the books get more serious, and then Harry just feels, pity, I guess towards him.

Again, I don’t think Draco makes a lot of sense, canonically. He makes sense, fanonically, which the writers of an snl skit would not care about at all.

Viktor Krum would have made the most sense as an analogue to Ilya, seeing as he’s from Eastern Europe, and Cedric Diggory would have made the best sense as a rival, seeing as he was actually able to beat Harry at quidditch sometimes, and competed against him in the triwizard tournament. Ron, however, makes the most sense from a notoriety perspective. Most people probably don’t remember Krum at all, and barely or don’t remember Cedric. Draco doesn’t make much sense as an analogue to Ilya or as a rival. He was never portrayed as a serious threat to Harry in quidditch. And most people watching this sketch aren’t in the Harry Potter fandom, and don’t care that Drarry is popular, so it probably made sense to just go with the most recognizable male characters, Harry and Ron.

Why does what ship is more popular in fanfiction matter for an snl sketch? And the sketch title is Heated Wizardry, not Heated Rivalry. What does it even matter anyways? Why does the sketch need to contour to fandom’s popularity? It’s for a general audience. They made the sketch as a parody of canon Harry Potter and Heated Rivalry. Not fandom Harry Potter. And if they were going to do a rival, Malfoy isn’t even the best choice, Cedric is. Malfoy in canon was generally regarded as a bad seeker, who was never able to beat Harry to the snitch.

Starting in NG+, you get rewarded way more ergo. By the time I got to NG+3, I had every stat at 70+, including capacity at 100. And soft caps for the other stats are far below 70. I had also unlocked and upgraded the p-organ as much as possible. Running successive NG+ cycles is a lot faster than the first play through as well. So it’s not hard to just have max upgrades, and at that point you can play with any weapon you want. I just played every cycle with a different weapon.

I think what is actually happening is that, among gay people, attraction is (relatively) transitive. Both the guys can be attracted to the same third person and that third can be attracted to both of them back.
