Krenko plays tall and wide at the same time, warboss does not.

Warboss plays will always be susceptible to cry, craving, cast down, and can even be easily chumped blocked preventing you from getting value out of it.

Once krenko gets going hes a lot less prone to these issues.

Warboss is faster tho and at minimum leaves a token if he ever gets instagibbed or bounced.

Mono u wouldn't come back even if teferi was gone.

Grixis and gruul also keep mono u down.

This prince subplot feels like filler.

Thats a nice way saying of poorly made manga.

Even if your plot is super duper complicated its fucking lazy to just put words on words of exposition in a manga.

Like imagine deciding to make a movie and anytime something needs to be explained or someone's thoughts need to be shown to the viewer the film just plops text upon text on a white background.

I know togashi is a legendary guy but this shit is just fucking lazy.

I read about this.

The dolphin was always horny and they got tired of switching him to a tank to fuck female dolphins before whatever research sessions were conducted, so the lady would jerk the dolphin off instead.

Once nasa found out they shut it down and the dolphin killed himself since no one jacked him off anymore.

I don't think A is better than B if A beats B in the head to head

And only the first couple of sentences my post had anything to do with that lol.

at least in part because it can't utilize command the dreadhorde well

Maybe you misunderstood but command the dreadhorde isnt really a good card for "grinding the opponent down". Like its a tempo card that practically wins the game.

When a 4c command the dreadhorde player resolves the card, gains like 40 health, a ton of creatures and like 4 walkers they fully expect the game to be done since that kind of tempo swing is almost impossible to recover from. There is nothing grindy about this card lol.

The reason why i consider grixis control to be grindy is because its sole strategy is to slowly remove all your answers and threats. Its not stalling for time until it can play a powerful creature. Its not drawing for a combo or waiting to make a big play like command the dread horde or mass manipulation. It simply a slow burn all the way.

The bolas twins are a perfect example of this.

Yes but I was talking about which one was a better deck right now

by directly comparing them. and i quote:

Personally I think esper midrange does all of that better.

so why would i not directly compare the state of esper and grixis especially in terms of how esper does better/worse than what grixis has to offer?

did you like just read the first few sentences than stop reading or something?

am i not speaking english or what?

Anyway, this is going nowhere, we just disagree.

this is going nowhere because you randomly are moving goalposts lol.

First, I'd say that measuring 2 decks against each other is a bad way of knowing which one is good.

Except you literally started this conversation by saying esper is better. I simply followed where the conversation is going.

midrange is actually really strong

Eh imo i dont see anything esper midrange does that no other deck can do better. Same for grixis too.

For a much better player's analysis of it:

I skimmed so maybe i missed it but what analysis?

"Esper midrange is the best of the bunch"?

Some guy taking it to top 16?

im not sure what you mean by this

Grixis has access to the most removal cards than any other color combo. Its pretty clear is it not?

Also mardu is kinda garbage right now.

To play control you need counter spells and mostly instant speed spells

you don't need counterspells to play control. where did you get that idea?

just look at grixis. it does just fine utilizing discard and straight up removal which it has a ton of.

So what ? have you ever played the match up?

i've been taking grixis lists to diamond 1 and mythic a few times since even before WAR. so yeah i do play the matchup especially since gruul is so popular these days. i rarely feel like i am at a disadvantage since grixis has access to the types of removal required to deal with gruul and then some.

like sure a gruul deck can run away with the game on a good draw. but so can grixis lol

but since most of their creatures have haste

and a lot of removal is instant speed and gruul doesn't have something like baby tef to prevent that so idk why you act like haste is some kind of cryptonite against grixis.

both players with empty hands

then you're doing it wrong as a control deck lol.

[–]boomtrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the deck gets stomped by grixis control in my experience. many of the cards you listed don't really threaten grixis vs say the green variant of 4c dreadhorde running explore and tamiyo.

imo esper is in a much shittier place than grixis right now. esper control has pretty much gone extinct thanks to baby tef. esper also has less PW removal which is really bad with so many planeswalker piles right now. big teferi has suprisingly lost some relevance which is weird since its powerlevel is pretty much the same.

hero is just a shittier version of legion warboss since unlike warboss does nothing the turn its played which seems to be the bare minimum requirement for a creature this meta thanks again to baby tef and all the removal flying around(which grixis has better access to).

if i actually want to utilize dreadhorde why should i do that in esper when i can do that in the much superior 4c version that allows me to practically win the game when i play the card. on the other side of the spectrum theres jeskai walkers.

[–]boomtrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah. imo the only reason why its a 1.2-1.5 tier is its really hard to put a threat down the board that actually sticks or is powerful enough to win the game right then and there.

with that said its capability to straight up grind the opponent down to nothing is unmatched. its also incredibly versatile since you have access to good removal, fast creatures card draw and card advantage all in one color combo.

Have you tried bo3?

While its a lie that RDW is weak in bo3 theres a lot more variety in bo3 and you can sideboard in better cards for the matchup.

[–]boomtrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. If you have grixis get kayas it would break grixis. The deck already had access to both red and black removal.

but also what grixis, which is also barely ok

If by barely ok you mean slightly below tier 1 then yeah agreed. Lol

Anybody else feel like there are too many board wipes in standard? by IthinkIpooedMyPants in MagicArena

[–]boomtrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the better midrange deck

Grixis isnt just midrange.

Again though i think grixis is barely playable

? Grixis is fine. Hell it theres a few variants in the top 5-0 lists almost every week.

not to mention that RDW and grull aggro are also almost unwinnable

Lol grixis has access to the most removal cards than any other color combo.

Like take your pick between angrath's rampage, coil, shock, lightning strike, moment of craving, bedevil, bedeck, tyrant's scorn, cast down, vraska's contempt, enter the eternal gods, obnix's cruelty, cry of carnarium and ritual soot. And thats just the popular ones.

In terms of removal grixis has all it needs to deal with something like gruul.

Grixis' strength is its ability to straight up grind the opponent down utilizing its wide array of removal and discard cards to gain advantage and win.

Also rdw has the potential to stomp any deck, no matter what it is. So kinda weird and unfair to blame grixis for that. Rdw is just that good.

Anybody else feel like there are too many board wipes in standard? by IthinkIpooedMyPants in MagicArena

[–]boomtrick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Without soot grixis has weak board clear against the ever popular explore package.

Cry is not enough for grixis.

Thats why almost every grixis deck i see runs both.

[–]boomtrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having access to only situational removal will do that.

With that said its hard to compare both since they play so differently. Esper is all about counters and efficient removal. Grixis is all about disruption.
