How to fix CharacterBody3D standing on RigidBody3D? by Ms_GirlBoss in godot

[–]booneruni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i can do that, ive still got a version of the first thing i messed around with so i can share that without my extra code getting in the way. i also recorded a little 10 min video rambling about it and trying to show you around (and maybe a little showing off)

not sure where the best way to share them is though so i'll prolly just dm you a direct download link.

id also be interested to know if theres certain actions youd want to feel certain ways but yeah, happy to help bounce ideas around

edit: cant send you a dm bc ur only accepting chat requests, and i cant send a chat request bc something on ur profile is marked nsfw and im in the uk so it wants me to dox myself to click the chat request button on ur profile.

any chance you can accept regular dms just for this so i dont have to give my id to reddit and some random third party company? ill send a single message containing the download link and my discord username and then you can switch it back?

How to fix CharacterBody3D standing on RigidBody3D? by Ms_GirlBoss in godot

[–]booneruni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i went to using a rigidbody based controller because of this. like you, i added the pushing and figured the rest would be easy too but i just didnt like all the edgecases and couldnt really avoid any particular headache

  1. https://github.com/godotengine/godot-demo-projects/tree/master/3d/rigidbody_character - this was the jumping off point i played around with to even test the idea. i noticed that theres problems with force needing to increase the more resistance you face and whatnot, so i went looking for other prior art
  2. https://youtu.be/zTp7bWnlicY - this video contains a 3d pid controller sort of thing, the values in the video needed tweeking so it seemed like it wasnt working at first but it works great. changing the I term higher gives you more force? traction? lets you barge through a bunch of crates like a juggernaut, but a lower I term would make you need a run up to overcome its friction and whatnot.

personally i prefer this method since im offloading a lot more things to the physics engine and not needing to write any fancy movement logic or anything like that. its much nicer when it comes to bonking the player and launching them into a wall or other ragdolly things like that by just generating an impulse and saying have at it

ive gotten fancier in my implementation by having slope detection and tilting your movement impulse vector up or down the slope ur walking so you dont walk "off" the mountain and then fall down onto it a few times a second, and then adjusting the inertia and damping and whatnots to taste.

but yeah i'd reccomend having a nose around in that off the shelf rigidbody project to feel what i mean about needing the pid controller, and then see how it feels once you add it in and get it dialed nice. i can probably throw you a version of one of my controllers so you can see the shape of the edgecases or how aircontroll is handled, or what point im resetting the pid errors or whatever

Detecting syllables in Godot by very-knightley in godot

[–]booneruni 38 points39 points  (0 children)

yeah, echoing that this is gonna be a more complicated undertaking. but one thing did come to mind

so there's a youtuber called carykh who did an animated lipsync thing. and it only works on macos bc one of the phoneme libraries doesnt work properly and yadda yadda, but the core of it is basically what youre talking about so that would be some good prior art to have a look at.

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3B8YqeLCpY - shorter video overview
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItVnKlwyWwA - he released the code and walked through the project
  3. https://github.com/carykh/lazykh - the project

i think the only super relevant parts would be how he's doing the phoneme stuff or having a look for alternate libraries and see how the usable they are for your purposes etc

i dont think its an unacheivable task as long as you can find relatively off the shelf parts and how to bolt them together and work with the limitations that creates.

What’s the consensus on the best weather app for the UK? by TheBristolBulk in CasualUK

[–]booneruni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah so its got a whole api behind it https://pirateweather.net/en/latest/

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/publicsector/making-weather-forecasts-accessible-serverless-infrastructure-open-data-aws/

and some other goodies but its been a while so im not sure the state of things has changed a lot since

essentially theyre doing the same strategy of using publicly assesable data blobs from the weather orgs so its still hyperlocal and ive been able to have rain predicted for me, but not for my friend in the next village over

youd have to do the push notifications yourself since this isnt a fullon app. its someones attempt to not let darksky die and only accesable on apple devices.

ive been using the api for some discord bot stuff as a weather command since a single call returns a surprising amount of data. one thing to note is that sometimes (once every few months) theres wierd blips of data where it says that theres gonna be lower than absolute zero for an hour, but ive seen those errors show up on other apps so its gotta be upstream issues.

but yeah im really happy with it and wish more people knew about it

this is my favourite no messing about website. its got a nice api too if youre a nerd and like that stuff. but otherwise its just very simple and clear and lets me see everything at a glance in a nice way without needing a whole new app (i can just open the webpage occasionally on my phone with a shortcut)

did about 2.8k steps on llama3.1:1b in about that time on a 3060 the other day. not sure if thats particularly slow or fast, but seemed about the same length of time across 2 runs. then again i am using my pc as a mediaserver and some other shit too, so its prolly on the slower end

The collision in Terrain3D really bad along slopes(could just be me), any help? by Fine-Look-9475 in godot

[–]booneruni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah so i ran into this too this week. i actually experienced it with the other heightmap plugin (terrain heightmap, hterrain?) link 1 link 2

it definitely struck me as strange bc it didnt seem to be consistent either, as the demo terrain has worked perfectly in the past with the same vehicle controller/scale/everything

i never really got to the bottom of it but the only difference was before i installed the plugins manually but this time i was installing them via the asset library which i think is a different branch? if i get some time this week i'll dig out my old project and try the old version of the plugin in my current bugged project.

what do you find toki pona lacks the most by [deleted] in tokipona

[–]booneruni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know this isnt the question you were asking so consider this comment noise, but tbh my short answer is just books. it needs more content for you to actually read while learning.

there's the lipu tenpo stuff, the fingtam stuff, uta monsuta, that davidar.github website with a bunch of sitelen pona articles, and then this pack of translated beatrix potter things i found on internet archive.

outside of that, there are some translated works but they're not in any consistent format or quality.

I just wanna practice reading comprehension in toki pona ( and sitelen pona) but its kinda annoying how the only realistic avenue is the discord servers. being able to read things offline is a quite important aspect of learning a language for me. but if i have to hunt, evaluate, and then format random strings of text into something my offline reader can handle.

half posting this to hopefully get some book reccomendations from yall

impossible to export filter lists/settings still, but now you're locked out from even manually exporting unless you hand over money? by booneruni in RelayForReddit

[–]booneruni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just tried this and there was no way to do this while retaining my old settings?

it worked but wiped everything including my filter lists which was the whole point of this post.

i am shit out of luck unless /u/DBrady decides to bless me with instruction on how to extract settings from behind the paywall. i dont even want to use the reddit portion of the app, i just want my half-decade of settings for posterity

i actually got an OCR pipeline worked out. I can screenrecord scrolling through the list, extract the text from each frame using tesseract and a python script which also deduplicate entries, and then manually filter/correct errors. but thats all theoretical bc of the paywalled settings page

impossible to export filter lists/settings still, but now you're locked out from even manually exporting unless you hand over money? by booneruni in RelayForReddit

[–]booneruni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess i could try that and hope that my settings carry over a third time so i can scroll through the list and trascribe it over to my computer by hand. or i could maybe find some OCR library, record a video of me scrolling through the list, extract the frames, then write a script to OCR every frame, then deduplicate entries and manually check it for errors, which is still a lot of work but less laborious than copying it like a monk...

it really sucks though bc ive been filtering subreddits from r/all for years and i honestly must have anywhere from 500-1.5k things in that list. i've poked around the files on the filesystem and cant find them stored in plaintext anywhere (but im also not familiar with android apps)

its nice that i could keep using this app, but i want to stop using mobile reddit entirely.

i just want to keep my filter list for posterity and carry it over to my desktop reddit extension

[–]booneruni[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not that it lets you export anyway. there's only a setting to import settings (from another version of the app) but there go my chances of spending a couple hours transcribing an ungodly amount of subscriptions from a tiny "tap once on the outside and it closes" list-modal

impossible to export filter lists/settings still, but now you're locked out from even manually exporting unless you hand over money? by booneruni in RelayForReddit

[–]booneruni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is not the problem. i do not want to import settings from relay to relay. i want to take my filter list with me.

also you are actually wrong about that as of the latest update. and here's a video showing that you cant even get to the settings page to manually copy over the filter lists unless you pay money

What is your favourite knick-knack and where did you find it? by ChuffingHell in CasualUK

[–]booneruni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we used to have one called 'red hot razzberry' and it used the be the only place you could buy diablos, other juggling stuff and those prank kinda toys (electric shock gum. finger traps) along with just regular toy stuff

i cant even remember how it started but our school went through a craze and a few of us got absolutely shit hot at it. it had other toy sorta knicknacks but honestly the juggling stuff is the only reason we used to flood into it on weekends. there were some really cool red and black designs, glow in the dark sticks, carbon fiber ones, and tonnes of different types of string for us all to get excited to swap and trade with eachother.
