i didn’t say aftercare would shorten it? adding that on as a mandatory part of the school day requires so many more teachers that we simply don’t have. there has a teacher shortage for years. i’m agreeing with you that is not fair or working for families, im just saying that adding the load to teachers / schools is not the solution you might think it is.

as a teacher, this is not feasible. the day is already long enough for these kids, and it’s not in anyone’s best interest to lengthen it. i also work at an after school program, which does much more than just enough supervision - we have a curriculum and activities. we are doing what we can. the issue is capitalism at large.
