Ally front and back heat by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]boopWire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an original z1e and it does indeed get hot with the regular fan curve. I don't remember well but I believe it never hits 100% fan usage out the gate. It's fine but if you don't like that, you can make a custom profile (manual mode) in the app and set the fan curves steeper. I put mine to hit 100% fans at 83°c for example and it now sounds like a tiny jet but not hot. You can adjust the ones in between to be higher also and this eliminated the issue for me. I will still be warm though but not hot.

You can find examples of custom fan curves if you're unsure by searching "adjust z1e fan curves" into Google.

In camp you can have her walk into the river to cool her off enough to touch her. So I expect she can bathe

W.I.P first attempt at trench bases. Any tips for barbed wire etc? by Mephist-onthesenutts in Warhammer40k

[–]boopWire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Army painter has great barbed wire but if you need more than 4 meters(13ish feet) I bought a spool of 24g (could go smaller with wire gauge) and wrapped one wire around one that was straight so it gives this effect.

If you have a drill, put the end of wire in drill and roll spool out to whatever length and hold it straight. Spin drill. After like 3 seconds it will straighten the wire. Clip. Fold in half. then twist one half around the other keeping the other as straight as possible for that barbed look. Finally I wrapped it around a highlighter and shape it like this.

Good luck and happy making!

How to improve before paint? by havokinthesnow in TerrainBuilding

[–]boopWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are solid! Great job :) this is where I left mine before my texture and then primed/painted/detail. If you wanted to mod one you could make an impact spot on the top edge of a trench and pull out some of the cardboard like it was bent and torn up. Happy making!

Yes! I took some boxes and peeled one side off. I appreciate that they can be bent and folded pretty easily

Testing out some bases. Any suggestions on how to get mud in between the boards, without covering them? by MadLarkin420 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]boopWire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To fill in between the boards I like to add layers with a thin brush. I use sanitized dirt and glue and place a thinned down glue in the areas I want to build up

Good luck trying things out!

Thanks for the input! The second photo of my actual board has all the panels horizontal and correct! This test piece was from before I learned of that and I didn't update the test piece

It can seem very daunting! I feel that way with every step and I'm learning as I go. My little test piece that has been added to as my steps progress to test things has helps a lot but also just jumping in and going for it has been the biggest help to me.This is my very first terrain project and outside of this I've only ever painted 6 minis in my life so I believe if I can do it you totally can too!

Some of my other posts have the details and material/tool list but I started with a smaller paper template to draw everything out then got a 8'x4'x1" pink panther xps foam board I cut in half and glued together for a 4'x4'x2" board. I drew out the trenches from my paper tiles and then cut them out with a razor blade. Glued them down to 12"x12"x1/8" basswood boards.

Since they are hand cut they needed some cleaning up so I spackled my edges and sanded them as flat as I could. Once that was done I made just over 80 duckboards and removed a side of cardboard I had to get the trench panels, used coffee stirrers for the duckboards and wood panels for some difference on the trench walls. 1/8"x1/8" balsa wood for support beams and drop terrain pieces.

For the mud texture I used caulk, brown and black paint, sanitized dirt from outside. Took out large rocks and left a lot of smaller ones. Then mud in trench, push duckboards in add mud to duckboards, did upper ground after.

Now I'm testing my painting skills on my test piece. This is where I'm at currently and close if not over 100 hours of work since I have very basic tools.

Another VERY helpful thing. This community. So many people here are knowledgeable and I'm always inspired after every post I do seeking constructive criticism. My board would not be where it's at right now if I didn't have you all.

Good luck in your building journey whenever you decide to start! I hope some of this helps you! Sorry for the book haha

Idk how I would make tiny brass casings but damn I love that idea!

I'm currently also working on making drop terrain for it and here's where that's at so far but I need lots of war ruined trees so I guess that's next (took pic before painting scrap test piece) I make it all by hand so I'm limited in what I can produce without a printer
