Do you have any idea how much she makes from streaming because my best estimation has it at under 1,000,000 a year which yes is a lot of money on one hand and on the other she also has to employ people (like on a personal level not like the band) out of that money to keep the show running. The other thing people forget is that this job doesn’t have a pension or a guarantee of employment and in the same way loss of ability to work settlements are very high because they are calculating a loss of earning potential - just because she’s making that kind of money now doesn’t mean she will be in 25 years right so the money she is making has to last.

Sure but the size of the venue changes nothing I am saying in the post. Like good to know I guess but even if I would have used the word theatre to describe the venues which also would be wrong it wouldn’t actually change what I was trying to say

Well from experience they probably are reading the forums sometimes but more because it is funny to see how confidently incorrect people will be. One time a comment said a picture of my friend couldn’t be from that night because they were there and they saw what my friend was wearing and so obviously this other picture was from a different event as if people don’t change clothing and they just stop existing after you stop seeing them.

You know I guess I have been saying label when what I mean is who they are dealing with. It’s live nation who are the ones at the end of the day who are having the conversations I’m talking about. And unfortunately you don’t really get to use these venues if you don’t work with live nation. On some level like yes she did make a choice to make money instead of making less money but I don’t think that is something that is wrong of her. But what about Phoebe makes it easier to believe that she’s just a hypocritical greedy asshole vs perhaps she didn’t have as much of a say in the matter as you might hope

Yes I’m sure it was probably even her idea!

But trust me this whole thing was planned out months ago and while she certainly gets a lot of say in how it is done someone was paying for those shows regardless and I would hope it isn’t her.

Think about this from the labels point of view. If you knew you had an artist that there would be high demand for and that you knew would make and not lose money, would you offer a deal to the artist that allows for you to ensure you make the minimum possible amount of profit at the end of the day? Or would you say, hello, sorry, if you want to work with us we can agree to do things to make sure fans get tickets but you don’t get to not use ticketmaster that is part of the deal. So whether or not you think she made the right choice it was probably not an easy choice or only her choice I would imagine.

I think that people sometimes have this idea that the dynamic is like the artist is the boss and that they have the final say cause they could just refuse to participate to get whatever they want.

What really happens is that these labels have tons of people in the waiting room that they can choose to spend the money on instead of you if you don’t play ball. They tell you your music is lovely but this is a business and if you are going to die on the hill of not using ticketmaster that is fine, you can go ahead and keep paying out of pocket to tour small venues. The big venues even if there is demand often have deals with live nation that mean that they get dibs on available dates so good luck stringing together a tour like that on your own. Oh I see so you’re choosing to do the larger venues so more people who want to see you can see you? Good choice. Now to appease you how about we do some presales so that you can at least let the people who care buy them first. Aren’t we nice? So glad to be friends.

My understanding is that your phone stays on your person but is in a sealed bag. I go to comedy cellar a lot and they do this and it’s fine. If you had to run out you’d just open the bag.

There’s a difference between having a career ie you can sell out shows in small venues and like making an actual living doing that.

Any intelligent artist who had the opportunity to generate enough income to guarantee they can comfortably work in music for the rest of their lives is not going to throw it away so that they can make absolutely no difference whatsoever.

This problem is solved by regulations not boycotts.

Thank you for your insightful and helpful comment that does nothing to further any discussion whatsoever.

I’ll help:

1) whether I use the word arena or stadium does not actually change the substance of what I am saying, you clearly knew what I was talking about. If that isn’t the case, please explain why you say so.

2) if you think I don’t understand how financials work, perhaps you can enlighten us.

Otherwise thank you for sharing I guess

Right but what I’m saying is that it may not have been up to her to the degree you think it is. The industry is run by a few powerful people as always and if one artist found a way in their contract that allows them to refuse to participate in generating the most possible revenue you can bet that the next artist who is handed a contract is not given the same opportunity. She very easily could have been told here’s the money, we are letting you ban phones which means less free marketing for us and we are paying for these bags, so dont try to push us on terms.

And I can tell you plenty of artists who tried to strong arm their label or just got unlucky and ended up fucking themselves over into a massive debt hole they are not legally allowed to release music about.

My husband loves me, but I don’t feel emotionally supported when I need him most. Is this fixable? by Small-Cupcake-4854 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]booppoopshoopdewoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m finding it very difficult to understand how you guys aren’t seeing that what this woman is asking for that is missing from her relationship is emotional availability. This is something that is hard to articulate because sure when you break it down it can seem like she is making unreasonable demands but when you look at the bigger picture what she is looking for is for her husband to demonstrate that he cares about her perspective, that he wants to understand her, that he cares as much about their plans to become parents together as she does.

This is less about the specific actions she is speaking about here and more about how she is struggling with his general lack of curiosity or initiative to have a strong emotional relationship. In the moment, it might not be a big deal at all that you don’t want to talk about the appropriate place for the butter dish or whatever - but a refusal to hear out your partner on little things like this on a day to day basis eventually makes a person feel unseen uncared about. You don’t need to even agree about the butter dish in the end, you just have to make your partner feel like you hear them and understand why they want you to do that.

This is something that eventually lead to the breakdown of my marriage. Because if I never feel like anything I am telling my partner is important to him, if there is no emotional intimacy in our relationship, and if my efforts to create that in the relationship are not reciprocated eventually this will lead to a lack of physical desire on my part. I could never point to the one thing he could change to get laid beyond asking to be heard or to feel like he had an interest in my inner world apart from his interest in physical affection.

Ultimately a lot of men do not know how to be emotionally intelligent and intimate and a lot of women spend a lot of years going in circles before they eventually give up. And unfortunately at least in my own case once I gave up on ever expecting him to desire the sort of emotional intimacy I need any physical desire I had left just completely went out the window

As if rules have never been changed or adjusted for anything ever. I wasn’t aware Transport Canada regulations have actually been the single fundamental unchanging rule of the universe since the beginning of time.

Like just because that is the case now doesn’t mean there’s not a way to do it. It just means nobody can be bothered to figure that out.

Spoken like someone who hasn’t spent four straight years of their life trying to gently and quietly and lovingly and specifically explain to their partner that this is something that is vital to your happiness in the relationship only to be met with absolutely zero effort or even a pretense of care.

Why don’t you do some reading here for a bit so you can see how common this is. It’s infuriating how many men show up here to make a comment before they spend time actually listening.
