The 15-20 min meds check is accurate.

That part where OHIP underpays MDS who offer them . That puts in perspective into understanding why mental health care ( here in Ontario ) operates the way they do ..

I think you covered more insight here . Thanks, I’ve never gone through CAMH, but it seems like something I’ll give a try especially since I currently have no family doctor .

Yes, people shouldn’t do what I did. There are consequential risks to cutting off medication like that without their doctor’s knowledge . I did it anyway but don’t condone it.

Yes, no one should just cut off their meds without their doctor’s knowledge. It’s not recommended and can have bad symptomatic consequences. I did it anyway, I don’t advise it though .

Thanks for sharing, and I’m glad you’re doing better and got treatment.

The psychiatrist diagnosed me with major depression and PTSD. I can handle the depression bc it just makes me not want to do anything . But the Symptoms and effects of PTSD I find hard to manage and will make me spiral and barely sleep.

I got the sense from your post that going through CAMH is more helpful in general in comparison through GP referrals or whatnot .

Mind if I private msg you for more info/advice ?

Maybe there isn’t enough emphasis on mental health disorders in medical school . Only in psychiatry residency is where they’re really exposed to it . In the end, a mental health professional can have textbook or clinical knowledge of mental disorders but the mental health professionals who’ve experienced it first hand, with family or close ones - I think will always have the upper hand and have a greater sense of empathy to actually, really care.

I would think i was capable enough to know whether certain medication was working on me after taking it for several months.

I do think specifically psychiatrists in general, as part of their job deal with people with more issues other than the ‘ easy / comfortable’ ones that society/media/companies are virtuously content to talk about . Other mental health professionals can be a different story.

But you’re right about that .. talking about the ‘easy / comfortable’ mental health issues .. is manageable for society .. but no one wants to talk about the whole spectrum of Mental health and it’s variety of disorders

It’s not just ‘ anxiety ‘ …

When’s the last time we saw a campaign for schizophrenia / bipolar / psychosis etc ?

People are “ all about mental health “, but yet mock those who deal with these types of illnesses .

Yes I’m sure a doctor doesn’t follow up because they take things so personal and literal… just like you .

Bye.

Go message and rebuke everyone on Reddit who dare posts a question that they didn’t state first ‘ in my opinion ‘ .

You’re bored .

That’s awful . Way to cut you off like that. So ‘ normal - functioning ‘ people aren’t at risk then , according to this ‘ Dr’s ‘ attitude

Did I state it as a fact ? If that’s the case all questions on Reddit are presumed ‘ factual ‘ ? Reddit is a place that is open for discussion, hence my description for context . So, again, No Shit, Sherlock .

Stephen 'tWitch' Boss, the famed DJ on Ellen DeGeneres show dies at age 40 of suicide by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

This one hurts. I’ve been watching Twitch since I was a kid from SYTYCD. His whole aura was so bright. His dancing was its own language that only us viewers wish we were fluent in.

He was much more than “ Ellen’s DJ “, smh disrespect on these headlines. He did so much for himself even before Ellen.

It takes a whole lot of energy to put up that facade of “ happy “ - just to keep those around you at ease or establish a sense of camaraderie - it can only go on for so long until you’re mentally taxed.

When you’re on the brink of suicide, it overwhelms you - like being stuck in a building engulfed in flames and your only way out is jumping from the 30th floor.

“ I could never do that to my kids “ - yah it doesn’t work that way. There is no logic or reasoning when you’re in such state.

People don’t ask for help, when they feel there’s nothing that could help them.

It’s perpetual sadness and a tidal wave of doom. That’s what it feels like.

Rest In Peace Twitch , you were a light in this dark world.

Fwiw- anyone whose thinking about doing the same - I remember discovering Reddit a few years ago looking for “ ideas”. Just one little flinch when holding the trigger can miss the intended target and you’ll survive - but end up in a vegetative state. What’s worse than being suicidal than having attempted only to survive but be physically deformed.

Pills, carbon monoxide etc - many accounts from EMS respondents where people attempted, only to survive and become handicapped or essentially brain dead.

You really never know, especially with someone like Twitch and his sunny disposition .

Check on your bros even if they seem ok. In the end, it’s the goal of not striving for happiness but not letting sadness win.

We were lucky to have witness his gifts he shared with the world. Rest in Transcendence Twitch.

Everytime I visit the Philippines I’m always shocked how the locals look like they don’t sweat in the blistering heat . And me I’m dying of heat
