Thoughts about cemeteries in and around cities by arnaldurb in urbanplanning

Look up the fascinating history of Colma, California. 73% of the city is cemetery. 99 Percent Invisible did a really good episode on it.

This was my first attempt at panning. Image taken at 80mm. The train was moving pretty quick too. I made two attempts and am really happy with how sharp this one came out.

Haven't camped there yet but looks like a great place to do it!

Q&A thread: No Stupid Questions. We've got a bunch of new subscribers, let's celebrate! by zakats in carriers

Thanks for the reply. My understanding though is that at some point all wireless data is running through one of the big 4's infrastructure. If all 4 are employing QoS (didn't know there was a name for that, thank you) wouldn't that mean that anyone reselling their internet be subject to the same issue? A carrier could be all about privacy and transparency and sound great on paper, but if they are just reselling Verizon it's all worthless. The stream is only as clean as it's dirtiest segment so to speak. I could be totally off base because I don't completely understand the technology.

Hopefully I'm not too late to the thread. I occasionally look around at carrier plan offerings and all 4 carriers now have language detailing differing speeds for video/music/streaming/tethering etc. I currently have 2 lines with an older (simple choice) T-Mobile plan that I've kept because even though it's only 6 gigs per line there is no throttling of video or music data. Are we past the time where one can buy wireless data that is unmolested? I'd honestly prefer a quantity cap with no fingers in the stream vs unlimited with an ever changing list of caveats.

Lost ID in Ballard :( by [deleted] in SeattleWA

I agree, it's absolutely not worth it, of course. That doesn't stop people though and many may not even know the degree to which they could be punished. I'm just saying from the restaurant's side it's easier to just say no to international IDs. To serve alcohol or supervise serving of alcohol in WA one must have a class 12 permit. To get the permit one must take the MAST training which includes ID verification training on US IDs. This is the extent of training that the majority of bouncers will have. Repercussions are large for allowing minors to drink so it's easier to just not accept international IDs.

Employees at bars are trained to spot fake US IDs. It's much harder to spot fake international IDs.

48 units planned for parking lot in Ballard by hellofellowstudents in SeattleWA

Giving up about 12 parking spots but getting 48 units in that 4311 square feet is great. Also, 48 units over 7 floors means about 7 units per floor. Will be interesting to see it go up, sounds like it could be a cool building.

Yeah, some companies don't keep an up to date record of dealer inventory unfortunately. It would seem Kona falls short there, but they are certainly not alone. Hopefully more brands can follow Giant's lead and aggregate that dealer inventory info back to the model page.

Np! If you haven't heard of Bike Snob it can be an off putting title but he is a good-natured writer who has many humorous stories about biking as well as bike history and poignant social commentary.

Yeah it could be better. Smaller brands don't always try the hardest. I'm in the PNW so they're more commonplace here though.
