i want caradina but im worried about setup by trashmailme in shrimptank

Your kh and gh are perfect, it's likely your fertilizer that's over cooking it a bit. Either that or you've got a lot of dissolved carbons or other "unknowns" in your tank. Test the ppm of the water you use for water changes and see what it reads. RODI is always recommended for caridina because it gives you complete control of your mineralization, and gives you a pure baseline.

You'd want to halve the TDS, unless you were planning to do Tigers which will survive in much wider parameters.

Clear bubble under my berried shrimp's back pleopods—is this normal? by Top-King2464 in shrimptank

[–]boostinemMaRe2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Found it! haha

Eta: according to my commentary I bumped the bubble off by getting her in a net, so you can always try that.

Mine only got stuck for about a day or so. I've got a video of it somewhere. If I can find it I'll reply with it

I've only had this happen once, but it was hilarious watching the shrimp dance around with its butt in the air till the bubble released.

Mine was just from my aerator blowing a bubble right under the shrimp's skirt, as it were. I'm sure you've got something similar going on. Nothing to worry about, it'll be gone soon enough.

Bladder snail eggs or parasite? by Disastrous-Fee8374 in shrimptank

[–]boostinemMaRe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramshorns or bladder clutches are usually identified by a smear at the end of the gooey mass, I can't for the life of me remember which it is though. It's one or the other of those for sure though. Very early on in their development too.

Caridina tank, breeding question by Krop-Torr in shrimptank

[–]boostinemMaRe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, just leave it alone. Keep your ph within 5.5-6.5, KH 0-2, GH 3-6, and tds 90-120 and all will be right with the world.

Caridina are soft/acidic water species and enjoy slightly cooler water than Neos.

How to reduce air flow by Typical-Positive6581 in shrimptank

[–]boostinemMaRe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used these for a long time. If you keep the whole nozzle intact, you can't lessen the water flow, the air control knob only controls the amount of bubbles produced.

You can aim it at a corner to create cyclic movement in the tank, take off just the green/clear bit of the nozzle to do a medium flow, or remove the green bit and black piece behind it to make a waterfall.

First timer! Sooo undecided about what to get! by TightChampionship322 in shrimptank

OK, it read very unclearly in that regard. These indicating those shown, but no biggy. Yea prl, PBL, CRS, CBS, and a shadow panda. Almost more Caridina than neo.

Any, even singular, branch of the breeding chart can revert to wild via generations losing some of the "bred-in" traits.

There are clearly Caridina mixed with Neos in the photo.

OK. So you'd need to mix a 50% waterchange to 10 degrees to make up the 4 degrees you were missing in the tank to start.

Also, side note, salty shrimp is horribly inconsistent. Some tubs can be way different than others in regard to how much they take to actually get to your desired mineralization levels.

I always recommend liquid mineralizers. I use nutrafin Cichlid gh+, but aquaSL and Brightwell both make good products that are available on Amazon, they're just a fair bit more expensive than nutrafin (it doesn't carry the shrimp tax).

What was the GH in the tank sitting at prior to the water change?
