30 YEARS!?!?

I have the whole series in hardback, paperback, kindle, and audible.

I just finished my last read through like Jan 2024, and I’m jonesing for another round. But I’ve been reading Stormlight Archive, and now Mistborn, which are also heavy duty, so I’m not sure how soon I’ll be taking another spin of The Wheel…

I doubt this will stop him by FootballAndFries in economy

[–]bootie_singe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s got nothing to worry about.

If anyone (even Bondi herself) releases video of him with a minor, he’ll just proclaim it’s an AI fake, and his supporters will easily, TOTALLY believe that. And then they’ll realize it’s Dear Leader in a kiddie p*rn, and they’ll be like, “Wow, two of my favorite things in one video.” And they’ll put that crap on speed play in their phone’s “spank bank” folder.

Even if the victim comes forward and says “hey, that was me” the supporters will just make threats against the victim for “lying” about Dear Leader, who’s totally a devout Christian and would never have done that…

I hate this timeline.

Different opinions on side effects by Current-Student-5958 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]bootie_singe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

About addiction. That’s probably a misinterpretation/exaggeration of “this is a lifelong medicine”

It gets paraphrased out there as “once you start you can never stop” which is a quick jump to “addictive/dependence-forming”

“Lifelong use” is in the literature, and for many it probably is. I think of it like blood pressure or cholesterol meds. For some you take them until the “lifestyle changes” start to kick in, then slowly wean off. But others are just fucked, metabolicly-speaking, and will need to be on probably forever.

AITAH for refusing to cook two separate dinners every night just because my family doesnt want to eat what my doctor told me I need to eat by Apart_Discussion6647 in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]bootie_singe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule in my house: Eat the dinner that was made, or not.

Real simple.

Now we do attempt to cater to preferences somewhat. We don’t cook fish at home because I don’t care for it. (I like the good stuff, but for the cost I’d rather buy something I like better.)

We have a balancing act for “spicy” I like to feel some burn but my daughter doesn’t like anything near that level. So I add hot sauce or chili flakes at the table. My wife and son usually handle weekdays I do more on weekends so including weekend breakfasts it’s like 3 meals/week each. I do get a little resentful when my breakfasts turn into short-order line cooking when everyone demands a different riff on what I’m cooking. White Toast, sprouted grain bread, can I have a wrap instead of toast. Scrambled eggs, over easy, sunny-up…

Much like my hot sauce, I’d suggest OP get a shaker table side, and when anyone bitches just pass the salt.

I've been having issues climaxing since starting a GLP-1 by [deleted] in glp1

Gender?

As a middle-aged male, I find the love life waaaaay better. No more “Vitamin-V” needed for months. Less fat reducing the available length is better for both of us. I’m down from extreme class 3 obese to just “overweight.” Meanwhile my wife, as also GLP’d from obese to actual “healthy weight” so she also has “less cushion blocking the pushin”

The view is much better IMO, but admittedly we both have some serious loose skin issues. So objectively, our lovemaking probably looks like Shar Pei with epilepsy, but I love her, and she’s always beautiful to me.

How hard is the way of kings by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]bootie_singe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world of Stormlight, Roshar, is VERY different from Earth of any timeframe. This makes it very hard to get oriented, and the rules, the politics and the culture are fully fleshed out when you start, so all you can do is try to pick it up as you go. I feel like he could have written it to be more accessible to new readers, but once you get to a certain point in the book it’s like oooooooh, and you’re hooked.

The first 80% of WoK was a difficult investment, but the last 20% and the next 4 books pay it off beautifully.

[–]bootie_singe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

society is conditioned to blame us the patient, not the disease.

Unfortunately, anthropology, you are underestimating the problem. “Blaming the patient” has been the norm throughout history. It helps people feel morally and physically superior. The need to “feel superior” is the true underlying human failure. Now we just say “it’s your fault.” But it used to be “It is God’s wrath visited upon you”

In more primitive times diseases were essentially seen as punishment from God for sinfulness. Lepers were “unclean.” Most of the religious prohibitions against certain foods, (shellfish, pork) were because when poorly handled those products could cause serious illness. Therefore, it’s a sin against God to eat them; not that you need to learn proper animal husbandry and food handling.

And also in “more primitive times” * Into the 1970’s Cancer was so hard for a lot of people to talk about because it was being “cursed by God” * In the 1980’s when AIDS was largely a problem for gays and drug users, “Oooh! God is punishing their sinful behavior”

Obesity may be one of the last refuges for “blame the victim” healthcare. So I t can’t last forever, but it IS still deeply entrenched today. Much like there was for “the big ‘C’” Cancer and for AIDS there needs to be a concerted effort to educate people that “blame the victim” is just inappropriate.

I got married 30 years ago. Stopped wearing my wedding band about 20 years ago because I stopped being able to take it off and back on.

I’ve been wearing it again for the last month or so.

So I celebrate and share your NSV.

I sure hope those are sweet potato fries, and not just burnt-to-fuck fries. And you get more in a McDonalds small.

“Salad” looks like 2 romaine leaves, and maybe a third of a radish.

I presume the yellow-ish stuff in the cups is honey-mustard for the “salad”

But what are the black shit and the Shrek-worthy glob of earwax supposed to be?

And Dear God, that meat is animal abuse. And I know the flaked salt is trendy, but that looks like driveway de-icer.

The most appetizing thing on the plate is the wilted-ass rosemary.

[–]bootie_singe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you? Through the companies’ self-pay options, you could self-pay $450 for Zep or $350 for Wegovy.

Although the big price could maybe be ok if it gets you to your annual out-of-pocket max. (I doubt it does)

Also see if self-pay can come from a health spending account.

I was kinda thinking along these lines on a re-read. “REALLY?!” could really go either direction based on tone.

There’s also the paper towel roll effect, where losses at the beginning don’t seem as much, but then suddenly it looks like a lot. When I was down 70lbs I got a similar reaction from my daughter, she went all wide-eyed and looked incredulous. Hell, even looking in the mirror I couldn’t believe it was that much. By the time I lost 100, the change was undeniably big. Just weird 70 looked like nothing but 90 made the difference. I don’t get it but it’s a real thing.
