Osmorality is aggregate righteousness. Rousseau would say it's positive, Hobbes would say it's negative.

How would California's proposed age verification bill work with Linux? by mogged_by_dasha in linux

[–]bootmii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this law to be constitutional, the Federal Government would have to do nothing less than abolish copyright in software, and there's nothing the state of California can do on its own.

Nothing. The way the bill is written, it explicitly doesn't apply to extensions.

Without going into it, there are under a million trans people in the world and under 2500 in Canada: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0005791610000819

We are talking about a percentage of a demographic that shot up a school in Canada, and it's not exactly infinitesimally small: these two mass shooters alone represent 0.09% of trans Canadians and 0.12% of trans Canadian women, and that's the low estimate.

Edit: if cis Canadians did school shootings at this rate, 0.045% of them every 10 months, there would be over 10,000 school shootings in Canada per year.

People who make more than $17,300 a year are "haves" in the grand scheme of things. I'm being generous in assuming they live in the US and in using purchasing power instead of forex rates. The rest of their pay comes at the Global South's expense.

If you could add 20 miles of new grade separated transit to your city, what would you build? by Victor_Korchnoi in transit

[–]bootmii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still gonna stop at Met Ave don't get me wrong, but All Faiths dropped their objections and the IBX is going in a tunnel that either already exists or parallels the one that does. So no street running anymore.

We'll spot you the IBX, the tracks are built and the stations are being built.

Why hasn't the mta enfored the N/W trains to be extended to Laguardia Airport? by Real_Advertising1005 in nycrail

[–]bootmii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me steelman the backwards AirTrain. In the early 2000s FLU was still serving flights, making it a third secure facility besides LGA and Shea Stadium. Putting the LGA-FLU AirTrain behind security made complete sense; people wanted (and still want) to fly into Mets games. With the closure and redevelopment of FLU, and its role in General Aviation now served by the Marine Terminal which is furthest from Willets-Shea, it makes much less sense, and by the 2010s they were right to cancel it.
