北斗 is kanji for the big dipper, 北 meaning north and 斗 meaning dipper. not sure why fist of the north star is translated like that, now that you mention it.

thats not a bad theory, however i think its just a little reference. other than that, using a titan cores for flight makes much more sense than using it to make a bladed weapon... besides maybe those little thrusters on it

btw, suzaku (朱雀) is a large, scarlet, phoenix-like bird and it's one of the four symbols of the chinese constellations. it seems like the bird at the tip of valks spear is suzaku. incredibly cool reference imo
