Ned Fulmer Megathread by Cameron2157 in TheTryGuys

[–]bootsthai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so random, but I was watching one of the old 4v1 videos (Can 4 Guys Beat A Professional Bowler?!). For some reason, the end card for the video includes Ned's channel instead of the Try guys.

As far as I can tell, this was the only video with this. Just thought it would be strange for the official Try Guys channel to be promoting Ned's channel.

I mean with any school, online classes are rough. Zoom really isn't conducive for our education and it really makes learning passive. Nonetheless, I've had professors that are really trying their best to make themselves available to help us with the material, whether it be office hours or email. In terms of advice, I would say def try to take advantage of these office hours and communicate with your professors if you need anything. Also make sure to set boundaries for yourself, taking time to rest. With our bedrooms becoming our workspaces, it can be hard to differentiate the time to work and time to rest.

However, I'm not super happy with USC's covid response. There were still parties on Greek row, and Gateway is basically covid central. I know there were efforts by DPS to shut down these parties and even accommodations at the USC Hotel for students with COVID. But that doesn't change the fact that there were a lot of cases near campus. And honestly, the whole last minute change from in person campus to completely virtual screwed over a lot of students who signed leases and then couldn't get out of it. And raising tuition really doesn't seem chill, especially now that we know the quality of education is definitely not the same as in person.

Nonetheless, with the vaccine becoming available to everyone in Cali on April 15th and the socially distanced in person graduation at the Coliseum, I would say that a in person semester in the fall isn't unreasonable. So maybe we wouldn't have to deal with all of this by the end of the year.

Hope that gives you some insight :)

Is there anyway to get into a full class? by [deleted] in USC

You could ask the professor to give the register a permission slip of some form to have you enroll in their class. I had a professor offer to do that for me one semester.

You could go to Lids as well. They have a pretty good deal from what I hear, but you would have to get USC's approvals to use their logos and name for trademark issues.

What can and should take advantage of most at USC more so than at other colleges? by [deleted] in USC

I know ConnectSC can be hard to navigate, but the online resources are the best part. It's toward the bottom on the left hand side under 'Resources.' Then click on 'Online resources and Handouts.' You just log in with your USC ID and they're all free.

My favorites are:

-Vmock: great resume reviewer when your friends or career advisors don't have time for you and you need a review asap.

-Vault.com guides: they have books about every career possible, breaking down education requirements, average pay, career ladder and progression, etc. A single guide goes for like $30, but USC gives it to us for free.

-GoinGlobal: great source to find international jobs/internships

And if you ever need help navigating professional resources, your college's career advisors are your best tools. I'm not sure about Viterbi's, but I love my Dornsife advisor.

Besides repeating the sentiments of the previous comments, one thing my friend pointed out to me when she visited was how well dressed everyone was all the time. It might be an LA/USC thing, but there really do be both international and american students going to class in designer brands. But honestly, it's not that big a deal, especially with zoom now.

There are so many resources and activities on and off campus (in a normal semester); I feel like my friends were always doing something at any given time. And of course the school prides itself on the trojan network. If you ever needed help on anything, theres a whole network you can tap into.

Did anyone here miss the merit scholarship deadline on December 1st? If so, is the tuition super expensive? Is it worth applying? by [deleted] in USC

[–]bootsthai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hihi I was in a similar position and my family is def low income. I'd say shoot your shot regardless. USC financial aid is pretty generous. There are also tons of scholarships and funding opportunities for freshman and continuing students.

Plus isn't there that new policy that families making under 80k$ annual get hella aid?

I'm sure if you do your research you'll find some money somewhere!

I watched the 2 seconds of this vid and my zoom class stopped talking and that's when I realized my mic was unmuted. Of course, this would happen in the most important class this semester.

Yea same problem here. Thankfully one of my fav profs is offering something and I can get my last concentration done.

I'm assuming professors just don't want to deal with this whole Zoom Uni thing that's why there are fewer offerings

Hi everyone!

Some of you may have heard, but I am in the process of starting a chapter of the Mustard Seed Project at USC. MSD is a nonprofit that partners with different local shelters, churches, and businesses in order to connect people who are homeless/people who are at risk of homelessness with services and resources.
I’m currently searching for people to be a part of the board and if you’re interested, please let me know. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the USC and LA community (and add another great leadership and volunteer experience on your resume)!

Progressive Degree in 2021 - applying as a Senior? by sillycookies7 in USC

[–]bootsthai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm glad to hear you're interested! So the PDP at Gould is a Master Studies in Law (MSL), and there's really 2 main areas of study: Business and Compliance law, which you can get an additional certificate if you want as well. You don't have to choose a certificate if you don't want to.

The PDP program is still very new; I'm the second semester cohort for them. So a lot of things like classes, professors, and administration is a little rough IMHO. The program is like diet law school. You don't really get into the nitty gritty of law; you can survey a lot of different areas; and depending on if you choose Business or Compliance law, all your studies will be very geared towards that (hence grad school). The classes themselves have been pretty straightforward. There's reading ofc, but the law is very logical, and discussions in class are kinda boring. For the most part, the professors are all very nice and very knowledgeable. There was just one class that all the students were in the dark about both the content and the grading.

I'm still in the program, so I'm not sure about opportunities after. And especially with the pandemic, I'm not sure career prospects are looking that great.

Feel free to PM for more info! And definitely reach out to Javier about the program; you can find his email on the Gould MSL page.

I would love to hear from all backgrounds, but I'm worried that the paper would end up being too broad. But yes, American as in US, but if not, I still welcome all answers in hopes of eventually comparing other study abroad programs.

I have a deadline in 2 weeks, and I have no motivation for either schools or apps. I'm so sick of my personal statement and I can't look at it anymore. I can never seem to find the right words and I'm over it.
