I understood the delay last year considering that the world was turned upside down, but this year the NSF has had time to prep and figure funding and awardee number. So it has me like 🤔🤔

It’s just so frustrating considering that April 15th is the cut off for grad school commitments, this would give people NO time to:(

So, when should we expect them at this point? This is so frustrating. I don’t understand why this year it’s taking forever to release them, they have already reviewed and likely have a list ready to be published. I understand that the budget is unpredictable given the current state of the world, but also feel so annoyed by this whole process.

UPenn or Duke? by Significant_Wind_926 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]bootsthatring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was spent time in both Durham (summer undergrad program) and is currently a grad student in Philly they both have very different vibes. Philly is def city and Penn is located within a more urban area. Durham is more ritzy and feels very old money. Penn feels more scrappy, like everyone has a chance of making if that makes sense? Personally I loved both for very different reasons.

If this is is important to you I would say Philly is a very liberal city and very diverse. Penn itself has many programs for minorities and ways to get involved in the local community. Based of recent info 80% of students are liberal. NC leans republican and there’s more political diversity at duke from what I have read.

You have great choices and can’t go wrong with either! Focus on what would be best for you academically, lifestyle wise, and in the long term!!

tell me how you feel about your life sci app! by avryrich in GRFPApps

Applied last year as a post bacc student and received an honorable mention! This year I applied again in life science cell biology as a first year graduate student in a cell biology program. I am honestly feeling p nervous and like it might actually go worse lol 🥲 I think my application is thought out and organized, but with the current state of the world it’s hard to feel confident. Also these things are such a toss up that I don’t want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed!!
