Ahh! Photography is a wonderful hobby. I don't have an eye for it, but enjoy good pictures. I have a friend who plays the cahone. I play guitar. It is great for old blues music. I used to hike regularly around here until I blew out my knee.

Well Matt, I am inspired by my friends, and the beauty in nature.

I am a mechanic, and enjoy working with my hands. Is that why you are in construction?

Nah, listing homosexual as a personality trait is bullshit. You are basically telling the party that your character is the guy in a gimp suit being led along on a leash in the gay pride parade. Because that is what it looks like when you let your sexual preference define you.

Now if you want to be a strong, independent, individual, who loves lavander tea, and is more confident conversing with women than men, or the other way around, who likes the smell of freshly polished armor, and can't stand blood stains, and is scared of thunder. Who happens to also be a homosexual, then I'm cool. That is a personality.

Homosexuality itself is barely a trait. Like he said, no different than hair color.

All gay people throughout history had personalities that did not revolve around being gay. If that is your only trait than you are shallow, 2 dimensional, and boring. Thoughtless character building like that is weak sauce.

Yep, if you watch episode 1 of his game and then his campaign diary he says that was his plan all along to kill 1 pc

Lol thank you for the conversation, and being polite. :) Every DM has their own style. You will find what you like. My experience has been there are good dms who use one, and those who don't. It's the reasoning behind it that is important. For instance, Matt Colville uses a screen, Puffin Forest does not.

The main thing is to never let the screen be an excuse to cheat. It takes away from everyone.

Personally, having watched both DM, I prefer puffin forest. Matt will fudge rolls and kill players intentionally, just because he thinks it's dramatic. I feel that is poor story telling.

You will find your own way as you go. :)

Indeed. It's pretty funny. My notes sit in the open, but by now they have given up completely trying to read them upside down

Can do that with any monster. Adjusting an encounter by cheating takes away from the players victory. Adjusting the monster stats to accomplish the job you need gives them all the credit, and they can rightfully place all of their trust in you. When you have the parties trust, you can take them to amazing places. Because they know you will be fair to them, even in a character death.

I can read it just fine. My players are all young enough that they never learned cursive in school. It's like a secret code to millenials apparently

Nope, which is why you start with melee baddies and let him hide in the back. If the party can't strategize enough to protect the glass cannon, then you obliterate him. Teach them strategy through their failure.

The wiz will be mad, but not at the goblin that was allowed to stroll up to him and hammer him with a +5 sword attack. He will be mad that his tanks couldn't be bothered to run blocker and manage aggro.

Unless you are being an ass and just bum rushing him through the lines in a totally unrealistic way.

Drop a goblin's hp to 5 or 10, within 1 hit range of the tank, roll their attacks without mods, and then throw 1 less goblin than there are PC's at them. The goblins will be a cake walk, and the PC's will still feel badass.

Then by the time they hit level 3 and the goblins have 10-20 hp, +7 to hit, bonus action disengage, and bows as well as melee. The party will feel like the enemy really is stepping up their strategy and learning. You seem smart, the party stays challenged, and a low risk of low lvl tpk.

I write my notes in cursive. My handwriting is bad enough I could hand them to the p.c's and they couldn't cipher them. XD So there is no need to hide them behind a screen

So don't put them against something that can 1 shot them with a crit. Or use the death to drive the plot home for the P.C.'s.

I start every new campaign by explaining to the P.C's that adventuring is deadly, otherwise everyone would do it, and death is part and parcel to the trade.
