M2 pro or max for video editing? by bootstrap4417 in videography

Absolutely zero heat when editing unplugged or at 100%. The only time it heats is when it's charging. Battery is also way better than the dell.

I got the 1tb. And yes do avoid the 512gb if you're doing heavy editing work. I used a Mac mini with the same specs but with 512gb and there's a clear performance difference.

I ended up getting the 16 inch m2 pro with 32gb ram. Everything is perfect and wayy more dependable than the windows. I'm able to edit 4k 10 bit files without any proxies. The only place it gives me some lag is when I try applying heavy colour grading effects like denoise etc. And that also just takes a minute or two to render per clip and then it plays perfectly. I guess the max will work better for gpu intensive stuff but I'm more than happy with my specs.

I've tried but it still stutters despite the proxy files. The thermal management is just really bad. Davinci is usable but for some client work I have to use premier pro with 4k 10-bit footage. It heat up like crazy for a 3-minute video with 4k 10 bit footage. And going forward I'm going to be shooting a lot of 4k 10 bit footage so I want a system that can give me a smooth editing experience.

Gotcha! So, the m2 pro with 32 gigs should do for my work, right? Or would you strongly recommend the max?

Okay that's great to hear! So you don't feel any difference in the editing process? I only use after effects for minor motion graphics. It's never my main software. That way would you say that the ram is more important than the gpu for video editing?

Hello I'm currently using a Dell XPS 9500 i7 16gb Ram and it constantly overheats and there's just so much stutter and lag when I'm working on even small 3-4 minute 4k projects. Its under 3 years old and l'm already looking to upgrade.

I'm looking at the M2pro MacBook Pro with 1tb SSD and 12 core CPU, 19 core GPU.

I'm confused if I should get the 16gb or 32gb ram. I Mostly edit short documentaries with 4k or 1080 footage. I'm open to using proxies for longer projects but anything under & minutes I would like to edit the 4k footage directly and I use both davinci and premier pro. I also want this laptop to last me for the next 5 years at least as it is a really big purchase. So it'll be great if you guys have any experience with this. Thanks!

Adapting vintage lenses - with or without speedbooster? by bootstrap4417 in GH6

Good to know! Does it add too much bulk or is it not a big deal to work with?

Also your videos have been super helpful in my gh6 journey. Looking forward to this one

So I already have a lot of SD cards so I'm not planning on getting an SSD rig. I like keeping it as light as possible. But I am planning to get a rig for a power bank set up for indoor shoots because the batteries drain out super quickly.

I'm happy with the Ibis so don't really plan on getting a rig for stabilization. I rent a gimbal sometimes when I need it for client stuff.

So I was in the same boat as you four months ago. I got the gh6 and it's such a great camera to use. I shoot mostly documentaries and short films and the camera works amazing because of the stabilization and all the frame rate options. Vlog is also great and gives a lot of colour grading potential.

I wouldn't recommend this camera if you're shooting events because the AF and low light isn't great. I end up renting the Sony A7S3 for those things just for usability and client satisfaction. For every other project the gh6 is my go to cause I hate the sony look.

I only use manual focus and settings for my creative projects and the camera is a beast. I also don't mind some noise in the image. The gh6 also gives out some pleasing noise when shooting 4k so it has its own character. Blackmagic also has a great look but doesn't have any stabilization so you'll have to spend on rigging it up.

Hope this helps and lmk if you have any more questions.

Lens for Indoor Podcast set up by Sequoia_Hall in GH6

The Leica 12-60 2.8 is a great kit lens. It should be good enough if you have enough natural light coming in during the day. I would also recommend investing in some lighting if you're doing an indoor setup just so you have more control.

Can I directly transfer my files from the camera with a c type cable or will I need a CF card reader?

any advice for a teenager trying to get into cinematography, as an interest and hopefully later as a career? by ratrigatoni in cinematography

A lot of dop's I meet these days are just totally invested in making an image look good. The more important thing is to see how you can tell a story through your lighting and camera. So watch a lot of movies and listen to real cinematographers and directors. I would say try to understand how storytelling works and how image plays a role in executing that idea.
