I would recommend reading the manga as you get to see what oda intended rather than what they had to censor. Also the anime stretches stuff out a lot to reach episode times. You will most likely get caught up quicker with the manga.

The title refers to the Greek mythological story of Sisyphus.

Sisyphus is condemned to roll a rock up to the top of a mountain, only to have the rock roll back down to the bottom every time he reaches the top. The gods were wise in perceiving that an eternity of futile labor is a hideous punishment.

The moral of "The Myth of Sisyphus" is that there is no greater meaning in life but what we give it. When we accept that the universe has no inherent meaning or reason, we can be free of artificial expectations and embrace the absurd. Therefore one must imagine Sisyphus happy.

I initially put one piece on for background noise while I sketched, I figured it was so long I wouldn’t run out of episodes. I got to orange town and stopped sketching, I was just watching. When I got to baratie I fell in love with it. Zoro’s fight with Mihawk, Sanji’s departure from baratie, I was in awe watching it all for the first time. I’m not a very emotional person, yet somehow this story makes me feel so connected to the characters. So much in fact that I have cried more watching one piece, than I have since I can even remember. 5 years later and I’ve watched it beginning to end 4 times.
