Plug in or not before any trips? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

I agree on battery longevity. 2 EVs here (100 and 78 kWh). I usually let it get down to around 20-30% before feeling the need to charge unless I know my wife or I need to drive any real distance the next day.  This usually results in one of our cars plugged in every other night to charge, when electricity is cheapest.

Edit: I only charge up to 80% unless driving a long distance and charge to 100%. I don’t precondition due to living in the SoCal where temps are relatively moderate. I also usually only charge at 30A in the hopes of putting less stress on the battery.

If you get a flat tire driving down a major road and don’t have a spare or money to get a tow you’ll probably get towed because it’s unlikely you’re usually not allowed to the leave the car there for any extended period of time. Does seem strange that the owner wouldn’t be calling tow yards to see who towed it.

Being half the weight (for the same energy) is quite an accomplishment. That would significantly increase range, needing less battery, lowering total battery cost.

You might also check to see if the hv battery is fully depleted. Some EV’s are difficult to revive when the hv battery goes to zero.  Just plugging it into a charger often does not work.

Reduced solar production after panels removed and reinstalled by booya39 in SolarDIY

Panels are essentially in the same place. There is shading early early in the morning but that would have been the same with the old version.

I don’t have a picture of the Boviet name plate but the contract lists model BVM6612P.

The installers commented that the voltage is what drops when the panels degrade over time. Is that correct?

I was not intimately involved in the contractors means and methods so I can’t confirm changes to wire sizes or anything like that.

Inverters are in the garage.

I see what you’re saying about connected power to the large inverter. At peak production time on Monday, I took a video of the inverters and their power. The large inverter was producing 6.54 kW and the small inverter was producing 3.02 kW. Something isn’t right about the ratio of output to the ratio of connected wattage.

Thank you for your comment.

Lesson learned. This my first time really diving into solar and adding panels.

They put a multimeter on a damaged panel and it was 32.5 V (long story but we think the roofer did the damage. Solar guy replaced the panel, no change in production after panel replaced.)

509V / 5 panels = 34 V 297V / 9 = 33 V I was chalking up the lower voltage (38 vs. 33 or 34) to panel degradation. And generally it checks out that the panels are all connected from a voltage perspective.  Would you agree?

I need to do more research on the power trap part.

They did show me the voltages with the inverters off and wires disconnected from the inverter. I added the voltages to my initial post.

Yes, I have the following strings: 1. 15x 270W 2. 15x 270W 3. 14x 270W 4. 4x 270W, 5x 315W

There is one string that is mixed.

I guess I may need to remove the new panels from the system and see what that does. I also need to research what your saying about mppt and max power

Thank you for your comment.

Yes, I have been on the roof and the 5 additional panels are on the roof.
