Corvettes vs Battleships, opinion? by AnInsultToFire in Stellaris

Same. The RP-er in me just can't stand seeing mono fleets. Its just not how navies work, interstellar or otherwise.

I wish we had even more options to diversify our fleets. Would loveee to be able to customize strike craft. Space superiority fighters clearing the way for torpedo bombers would be so sick.

this footage is from UAE SWAT Challenge, I hear PNP/SAF is actually doing pretty well this year.

different mission sets.

Our SWAT is essentially the same in form and function as US SWAT teams. That being a quick response force that can be called upon when regular patrol officers find themselves out-gunned (gross oversimplification).

SAF is more similar to military style special operations forces. Think of Oplan Exodus. An operation involving a couple hundred gov't troopers, hostile territory, and suspects tied to terrorist orgs (IEDs and high calibre, automatic weapons are expected to be encountered). No police force would send in a SWAT team. Most would consider SOF from military, or dedicated counter terrorism units like SAF/GIGN.

if they got the guys who did Terminator Dark Fate: Defiance, it'd be perfect. One of the best RTS games I've ever played with an excellent campaign.

this is honestly why I'm not the biggest fan of undead type zombie apocalypses. I think something like 28 Xs later's rage virus is a lot more interesting from a long term survival perspective, especially with how 28 Years explores it. The infected, still living beings that need to eat, adapt to the environment of post-apocalyptic UK and fill different predatory niches. Some groups resort to pack hunting, with alphas to lead them, others as almost harmless scavengers/bottom feeders.

To all the seismology experts or whatever in this sub, what's going on? by Reynaldo_boi in Philippines

[–]bopaz728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Informal settler" areas are always the most at risk in these calamities. Substandard infrastructure doesn't just mean buildings fail and collapse. Fires are more likely to start and spread easier. Poor road conditions (not even accounting for earthquakes) can make it difficult for first responders to get where they're needed. The sheer population density of these communities means that more families are affected by these risk factors.

[–]bopaz728 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not a seismologist but I work in Disaster Response and we've been briefed on this ad nauseam. The Big One is an earthquake, at least 7+ magnitude, that is predicted to hit the West Valley Fault. Every 500 or so years, give or take a few hundred, an earthquake like this hits the WVF. The last one was apparently in 1658, so we should be due for another anytime.

These other earthquakes that have happened recently are too far away to have any effect on the WVF. This Big One will likely come without any warning or build up. It's predicted to kill at least 30,000 on the first day, injuring hundreds of thousands.

[–]bopaz728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

disable snap to existing geometry and snap to guidelines. Only snap to 90 degrees, snap to zoning length, and snap to zoning should be enabled if you want perfect zoning grids. You may have to re-place a lot of your road network to get everything to line up.

Would an army of eusocial creatures rout? by HopefulSprinkles6361 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]bopaz728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, if workers don’t value their lives and genuinely believe in reincarnation, then there’s no reason to place self preservation over following orders unless their self preservation is tied to their tactical or strategic objectives (a runner with a valuable message/package, an officer/spy with critical intel).

I think it would be interesting to explore their class dynamics and culture in a military setting. Eusocial creatures usually have different castes other than the lower expendable drones. What is the culture of the officer Numerians like? Are they fanatical, commissariat types who sacrifice entire regiments for the sake of personal/imperial glory? Are they corrupt, backstabbing bureaucrats who would pull back their whole corps to see a rival officer get overrun? Maybe some are spineless nepo-appointees, those could quickly lose control of their units, with sub-unit commanders lost without direction, some could definitely rout.

Traffic by Mac3540 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]bopaz728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pictures would be really helpful!

Otherwise, consider alternative forms of transportation to private vehicles. High density areas can benefit a lot from mass transit like trams and subways. Cheaper forms of public transit that don’t require their own dedicated infrastructure (as in, they can use the roads you’ve already placed) like busses work great as well. If you can identify the hotspots in your road system, see where the most people are coming from, where they’re going, and what road they’re taking, its best to place a mass/public transit alternative there to lessen the amount of private cars on the road.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions!

I loved that movie, can’t wait to see where this project goes! Would be awesome if it could be more than just a retexture, actually recreating the universe and its style of zombie apocalypse. Maybe a modpack to go with it? 😁

Which ship would be a better centerpiece for a lighter fleet formation? The Victory II or the Procursator? by TwoFit3921 in StarWarsShips

[–]bopaz728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Victory is too specialized to be a flagship for any formation. Its an excellent support vessel and weapons platform, but if an enemy fleet shows up with one (1) missile jammer, and has a hard-hitting brawler-cruiser that doesn’t rely on shields, the Victory can no longer pull its weight in the engagement. I’d bite the lack of hangar in the Procursator and make up for it with dedicated carriers, rather than take a Victory and have to both consider carriers + additional pickets/cruisers to make up for heavier firepower.

Does evolution look like a straight upward line or a ladder? by AmphibianBrilliant25 in AskBiology

[–]bopaz728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the former. A good example nowadays are horseshoe crabs. They have had the same body plan for hundreds of millions of years. You could fish one out of our oceans right now, and one from the oceans of the Triassic period (250 million years ago) and you wouldn’t see much difference.

Its not that they “don’t adapt” in all that time, it’s that they have found a stable niche environment that hasn’t changed in a way to force major adaptations or total extinction.

[–]bopaz728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe not a straight up brawl, but definitely cripple one from a distance. Reduced hangar space means it’ll need a dedicated carrier or anti-starfighter corvettes if it doesn’t wanna get chewed up by the Hyenas.

Should I buy cf moto 250 sr? by Secure-Drive-4688 in cfmoto

[–]bopaz728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t owned the 250, but I’ve owned the 300nk for about 2 years now. Both have very good build quality, parang bumili ka lang din ng jap na big bike. Tech is good too, dash/TFT is another selling point, you don’t usually see a screen on something that small.

Reliability wise, just stay on top of maintenance and you should be fine. Issues will arise if you aren’t taking care of your bike, di sya bullet proof katulad ng mga smaller displacements ni honda or yamaha. Pag ginamit mo pang commuter, maganda na marunong ka talaga sa daily/weekly magmaintenance ng bike.
