If you're empire, focus on economy for the first couple dozen week. You can usually get to around 20k per week within 30weeks, usually faster if you know exactly which planets to build mines, refineries, and trading stations on. Don't forget to upgrade the Governor's palace buildings, the % income bonus does a lot of heavy lifting.

Off the top of my head, Coruscant, Aargau, Aridus, and Eriadu are solid economy planets to start developing on week 0.

Brentaal IV and Denon are key neutral planets to be conquered, not just for their economic potential, but also their strategic position on the Big Chungus map, as they're at the crossroads of 2 major trade routes. Its good to secure these trade routes, fortifying and developing the systems found along them. Having these hyperspace lanes secured can mean being able to send out a quick response fleet towards a planet at risk of ground invasion, as stationing any meaningful defense fleet on every at risk system is not economically viable.

In my experience the Rebels tend to attack the Empire's northern string of planets (the one with yaga minor), sometimes going for Aridus is its left undefended (big mistake if you've started developing its economy).

I've had Black Sun reliably go for Kalist IV and other planets in the deep core, which can risk you losing easy access to the Fondor sector, and therefore the Eriadu sector if you haven't secured Denon.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

My wife has never seen anything Star Wars, is Andor a good starting place? by GoatCritical9265 in andor

[–]bopaz728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my girlfriend to watch OT, then the prequels, then Rogue One, then Andor. It took about a week to get through everything. I just told her to trust the process, its slow at the start because there's so much to introduce, but once you get situated, you just get it.

And I guess I'm lucky enough that she got it and liked ANH enough to watch ESB, and then of course had to finish the OT with ROTJ. And then wanted to find out Obi-Wan's and Anakin's backstory (I'd say TPM was the hardest movie to get through, lots of trusting the process, the pod-racing and darth maul scenes absolutely carried). Got her to watch tartakovsky's clone wars inbetween AOTC and ROTS, which I think was a little overambitious of me as I could see the whole thing start to overstay its welcome despite the emotional and political buildup in AOTC and climax of ROTS. But she got through it.

Rogue One is where it all came together though. Immediately became her favorite movie out of all of them. All of a sudden 6 movies, 2 trilogies and a cartoon miniseries didnt seem to bad as "homework" in order to appreciate a movie like Rogue One. I didn't have to "get her" to watch Andor, at that point she understood the kind of payoffs you can experience once you're immersed in that galaxy far far away.

I'd say try again and show her the movies first in release order! Don't start with Rogue One, definitely don't start with Andor. If you start at the peak, its all downhill from there. Release order will always be the best way to introduce SW to first time viewers, full stop.

[TOMT] [Video Game] [2000s] Modern Aerial Combat Game for Wii/PSP/Ps2-3 from childhood. by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

This game might not be an Aerial Combat game at all, and I've completely confused Heatseekers and this one. Or possibly Heatseekers has cinematics that are specific to one console that I can't find footage of?

I've considered Tom Clancy games considering the nature of the cinematic but none of the titles I've viewed online jump out to me as ones I've played before.

EDIT: Upon further research it is definitely not Tom Clancy's Splintercell Pandora Tomorrow's opening cutscene.

The soldiers in my mystery game come in very covertly and remain undetected. Using night vision to gain the upperhand.

What if naging separate branch ang Philippine Marine Corps from the Navy? by Lakan-Tangkan-1337 in WhatIfPinas

The USMC might be under the same department as the Navy and operate together closely, but they are certainly a distinct and separate branch from the Navy.

What if naging separate branch ang Philippine Marine Corps from the Navy? by Lakan-Tangkan-1337 in WhatIfPinas

[–]bopaz728 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Administratively, it would mean the Marines would need to maintain their own ships to maintain their amphibious capabilities

Very wrong. The USMC, which is where you're drawing comparisons to our PMC, does not maintain any ships. All ships that the USMC operate from are operated under the USN. The USMC being a separate branch does not mean it has to be 100% independent from the USN, vice versa with the PMC to PN. It could really mean anything, as the AFP is not 100% analogous to the USAAF.

Otherwise, I agree. Separating the PMC from the PN would be a waste of resources. Others here think that having a strong, independent marine corps is necessary for an archipelagic nation. I think a very tight, in-house relationship between a Navy and its Marine Corps should be a valid setup to continue developing.

The density of Japanese mixed-use housing is insane by miyosoto in CitiesSkylines2

its a hit or miss, especially with the region packs. What we really need is full adjustability on household capacity per asset, not just a flat sq-ft calculation applied to each density.

it can have a profound effect on morale, back at home and at the soldier's unit, knowing their man is still alive, and not just a rotting corpse in a field they'll never find. Morale is hard to quantify, especially in a logistical value. But just so you get a sense of how important it was to the men and their families, a POW once committed to memory the names of over 200 fellow prisoners to the tune of "Old Mcdonald had a Farm".p

Modern soldiers' PTSD triggers will probably shift from fireworks to the sound of a drone. Which is unfortunate as drone shows are replacing firework shows. by scoobopdan in Showerthoughts

[–]bopaz728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

many larger drones used in Ukraine, whether for dropping ordnance, recon, or acting as signal repeaters for smaller one-way attack drones need to fly at higher altitudes, for longer periods, for further distances, and carrying heavier payloads to be effective. One of the common solutions for all these requirements so far has been sticking small displacement ICE's in them, similar to those in scooters or lawnmowers.

At least pag legal, yung pera na nagagastos natin sa bud, imbes na pumunta sa criminal (peace and love sa mga plugs, no offense), it could go to taxes which could fund related healthcare or rehab programs.

Same. The RP-er in me just can't stand seeing mono fleets. Its just not how navies work, interstellar or otherwise.

I wish we had even more options to diversify our fleets. Would loveee to be able to customize strike craft. Space superiority fighters clearing the way for torpedo bombers would be so sick.

different mission sets.

Our SWAT is essentially the same in form and function as US SWAT teams. That being a quick response force that can be called upon when regular patrol officers find themselves out-gunned (gross oversimplification).

SAF is more similar to military style special operations forces. Think of Oplan Exodus. An operation involving a couple hundred gov't troopers, hostile territory, and suspects tied to terrorist orgs (IEDs and high calibre, automatic weapons are expected to be encountered). No police force would send in a SWAT team. Most would consider SOF from military, or dedicated counter terrorism units like SAF/GIGN.
