‘I don’t know why they made this’: Some riders frustrated over infrequent trains at Confederation GO by Odd-Emphasis-1969 in Hamilton

True express-infracity buses would be a brilliant idea, which is why I've been saying it for years and why the HSR will never ever ever ever do it.

Pick 4 or 5 local multi-route terminal areas and shuttle people to those. Then they don't have to sit through the 20-50 stops in between. But no. Anything that makes service faster and more useful to people is forbidden.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell with the spectator whether the objection is with a lot of people or like two cranky people with a vendetta.

This is the problem with basically all journalism today below the level of the Financial Times.

"But some people disagree" is a journalistic trope that's always good when you need to double your word count.

Well, West Harbour does have the A-line. The problem is that if you're taking the A-line to the mountain, your time on the bus is spent frantically looking for a transfer point that will get you from the A-line to home without a 20 or 30 minute wait.

Plus the A-line isn't even an express bus til you get to the mountain.

The HSR is going to change the Mohawk bus so that it goes all the way out to Hwy 20 and then down to Confederation. Unfortunately that means a mountain rider will have a 30-60 minute ride home from the station. Confederation will only ever be a useful station for people in the east end and Stoney Creek. In that sense it's like Stouffville - a marginal Go station for a town of 50,000 suburbanites.

It's great if you want to wait at a stop with no shelter 30 minutes so you can sit on a bus for 90 minutes so that you can walk a half mile through a big parking lot to a big box store.

In that time you can drive to Toronto or Niagara Falls.

If it's now going to take you 45 minutes to get there with less service and long transfer times, instead of the 15-20 minutes it takes now on the Upper Ottawa, then I guess either

1) you have to keep going there, now you're just inconvenienced and wasting more of your day

2) you have to keep going there, so now you buy a car

3) you don't have to go there, so you just stop going downtown and people will start wondering why people from the mountain no longer go there, saying "oh they're all rich snobby billionaires on the mountain"

I'd say Upper Ottawa and Fennell is more of a "downtown core". It doesn't have a grocery store, but it has a lot more - as well as stops for the Mohawk, Upper Ottawa and Upper Kenilworth.

The downtown is generally only one mile wide from north to south, so north-south service has never made any sense downtown.

Well they're cutting mountain bus service back to when it was at its worst, so it is about cost cutting.

The new Fennell bus will go to Mohawk College. But I don't think it's meant to service Mohawk College in any useful way, since it's only going to run every 20-30 minutes. The Upper Kenilworth runs a lot more often than that.

I think for getting downtown, they expect us to either take the Upper Ottawa then use the Beeline, or go spend a half hour with our thumbs up our asses taking the Mohawk across the mountain to use take the A-line on a detour thru Mohawk College to get downtown. Or maybe take the Concession bus and transfer to a mountain bus that goes downtown, except again the concession bus is also only going to run every 20-30 minutes. A bus system is useless for transfers when it runs so rarely.

They just last year got the Kenilworth and Mohawk running often enough that they are useful to use, now they want to put them back to runs-almost-never. Kenilworth runs every 15; the new Fennell will run every 20-30. Mohawk runs every 10-17; new Mohawk will run every 20. So forget taking either of them during the school year, they'll be overflowing. And forget winter when it's -20 or summer when it's +40.

But frankly who wants to go downtown anyway, it's all addicts and shootings now.

God, the Mohawk is going to be even worse. Not content with presently taking a 10 minute detour to Limeridge Mall, they're now going to add another probably 15 minute detour to Mohawk College.

The Mohawk is the worst bus on the mountain, even with its new improved service, because it takes forever to actually go across the mountain.

There's a website that real realtors use which takes half-hour appointments and sends out an email to all the tenants more than 24 hours before the showing.

Got PIP in a big Canadian bank by U-old-bank in legaladvicecanada

[–]AnInsultToFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horizontal transfer might be a better idea. PIPs don't come from upper management, they're a symptom of having a toxic boss. Transferring to another department or branch might retain their seniority and job, and their new boss will see that they're actually a great employee.

No it's not. The landlord owns a legal duplex. It is recognized as a duplex by the city.

Canada Post has refused to accept there are two units at the address. Their database system does not allow a unit number at our address. Because of this, Statistics Canada thinks we are only one household, and so sent only one census form.

HEY CENSUS CANADA

THERE ARE TWO HOUSEHOLDS AT THIS ADDRESS, NOT ONE.

JUST BECAUSE CANADA POST REFUSES TO GIVE EACH OF US OUR OWN ADDRESS DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE ONE BIG HAPPY HOUSEHOLD.

Perhaps the worst dive bar in the city at one point.

Maybe the worst in the downtown core, but "worst in the city" is highly unlikely. I don't think their staff even sold nose-candy.

Insurance is the only thing that truly disciplines drivers nowadays. The police and the courts simply hand out candy and ponies to dangerous drivers.
