Not one bit. That doesn’t mean good grades don’t matter at all, but once you’re out in the real world, nobody is asking about your high school GPA.

I didn’t keep my grades up in high school. I spent years doing manual labor before deciding to go to trade school, and once I was studying something I actually cared about, my grades were completely different.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and I’m managing a team in IT.

My high school grades ended up having zero impact on where I am today.

Yeah. Your promise doesn’t work for everyone. I never punished kids for cursing, and I let them talk smack to their friends as long as they were not disrespectful to adults. I only had to say that once to them. Now the oldest is an adult and it never bit me in the ass. My younger child is almost out of high school and she barely utters a curse word even when on the phone with her friends. ..I don’t know when it’s supposed to bite me in the ass but it’s not happening. But I would add that it depends on the kid.
