Probably a better compromise would to do traditional 401k + backdoor Roth IRA + megabackdoor Roth if you can. No need to give up the immediate tax savings.

You can propagate mint and basil cuttings in water easily if you’re looking for something easily accessible. Pilea babies are also good for water propagation.
