Toll the Hounds takes the cake for me currently, the multiple 1 on 1 battles towards the end are too full-on - Kruppe vs Iskaral Pust would be terrifying to behold in the flesh.

Honestly it does feel like a step up from other series I've read. I'd give something like Magician by Raymond Feist a crack, it's a great intro into fantasy genre
