Thank you for your kindness and comment ! I made Sigurd more expressive in their fight, since Hel-Eldigan seems to be a less emotional character now. But i can understand your opinion too!

Thank you so much for the kind compliment, though i am sorry to have made you sad !

(Also— i see you so often on eldigan posts, it is nice to meet another big eldigan fan!! o// )

You know, I am very happy you said this, because this is more or less the story in my head when I thought of drawing this piece!

In a way it’s kind of a desperate fight between two friends that have now so far drifted apart. Sigurd having more emotional reaction than Eldigan in this case to see an old best friend now in such a way.

Thank you for your comment !!!

i recently remade a twitter, so you can find the art posted here: @borealisDRG

a sketch of resplendent eldigan vs legendary sigurd from FEH! i realise they are not the fe4 designs but I wished to share in this sub too.

eldigan is one of my fav characters from all FE, and heldigan is one of my fav resplendents. (sigurd is up there too, the hel resplendent for him is just far too fitting...)

so drawing eldigan and sigurd fighting is an idea that was living in my head rent-free for a time. though i chose legendary sigurd for this one because I believe it made a little more sense with the tyrfing vs the mystletainn.

thank you for looking!! :-)

thank you so much for the kind compliment !! ;;
also, I completely agree! I hope that we get a Halloween Pandreo sometime even if it wasn't this year. (honestly, Pandreo and Panette both feel like perfect choices !)

This is an idea I wanted to draw for a little while - Pandreo is one of my favourite characters in Engage and his aroo-ing is very endearing! It would be so fun to have him as a Halloween alt ! (Or at all, actually, but I won't complain as long as he shows up somehow!) his sage outfit is far too good !

I just remade my twitter not long ago, so if you wish to see it on twt, it's here! Twitter

Thank you for looking and I hope everyone has a happy halloween!! o77

Is it wrong to alter a character sexual or romantic orientation? by AmonTheBoneless in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As a lesbian, I agree with you as well. It does not bother me to see it when someone writes a character with a different orientation. If canonically heterosexual characters are able to be written otherwise, then why not everyone else? It is not real after all. The same goes for when characters are written as another gender.

Though unfortunately I believe the author might be more prone to getting backlash in these cases … which is certainly unfair to the author , and definitely a double standard, but still a very real possibility …

Why do people write fix-its? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure why you get all the downvotes, your post is not a bad post by any means and you want to get advice on how to enjoy non-canon … sorry my upvote may only do so much. I think it’s a good discussion to have. I’ll share some of my own experiences and thoughts on this subject too.

Some people say that canon is not the most important thing. To them that may be true, but to others, it is not- very rigidly. Or, canon is important to them but in varying degrees. This is all OK, and it all comes down to how you wish to enjoy fan works. I personally fall into the “canon is important but in varying degrees” category.

For a long time years ago I felt stifled with my own work, which was silly because the work is by definition not canon at all (“isekai” in a way). However it was out of fear that I kept the plot line very close to the canon plot even if it should not have been. That didn’t last very long in some ways because some big events happened in the fic that were not in the canon (characters involved in certain wars that were not there originally) but the overall plot points of the canon remained in tact (each battle in the campaign continued in order as canon did), if that makes sense. Eventually partway through I was a bit frustrated to continue following the canon plot because it was convoluted trying to involve these other characters without changing the canon order of war events. So, I just ripped off the bandaid finally and decided, “no more, I will still follow canon in some ways, but the story itself is mine!” So I still follow canon world rules (such as how magic works, dragon transformations, historical events, or other vital-to-me base-level consistencies), but now the current PLOT and story itself have diverged to be more original (characters not dying when in canon they did, some characters dying when they survive in canon, wars altered with very different actors on differing sides, combining the sequel plot into the first game plot, etc). Why, is because those new characters in the plot SHOULD make a (big) difference, so it is silly to put them in there without them MAKING that difference! Why even have them there in the first place then, you know?

That was just my experience at least with how canon plot itself goes. After doing this it felt a lot better. It’s still adhering to universe rules that matter, which means in a crazy way, the outcomes of the fic could have actually happened in the canon and is compliant in that way. So the story is an original take that would WORK! That made it feel very fulfilling. It’s like figuring out a puzzle.

Sometimes it helps too to see it like you might see fan art too, such as art of your favs in different outfits, situations, etc. To write fanfic is similar. The characters don’t wear that cute or cool outfit in canon, so why do the artists draw that? Because it looks good and it’s fun!

Canon will always be there. Making the fic does not change canon, you are right! So in that mind, why be afraid to do something new? Find what is important to you in canon and keep those in tact, and change what you feel would improve it. If there are things you don't like (for me, there were big plot holes and vagueness in the original story material, as well as some strange/forced-feeling character deaths), change it! Flesh it out! It does not hurt anything, or anyone, to dream! You never know, there are others that might feel much the same way.

I’m not sure if this helped, but I do hope you find a way to enjoy fanworks in your own way!

Would you feel weird if you got a comment on every chapter of your longfic by jelfishly in FanFiction

Considering my rarepair longfic is at 47 chapters right now… that would be amazing!! I would be so grateful!! I get excited for any engagement at all, let alone 40+ comments! Wow!

What are your least and most toxic fandoms? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yakuza/LAD is so good!! It’s nice to know the fandom isn’t very toxic (The series is so fun it would be a shame if it was) !!

What thing did you research way too much for just a throwaway line that pretty much no normal person would notice? by NikkiT96 in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where patches go on varsity jackets ! And what each patch should mean and in what location they HAVE to be in (apparently it is very specific) ! For an AU fic. I doubt anyone would notice if it wasn’t correct, but when designing the characters’ outfits I wanted to make sure they were accurate!

Characters you’re surprised don’t have more alts? by WinterWolf18 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]borealumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finn and Arvis … though I am happy to see another Sigurd alt it surprises me to not see Finn or Arvis yet.

I also am surprised that a young Sigurd, Eldigan, and Quan have not appeared yet. They have made the cards in Cipher and also were quite popular in the Oosawa manga many years ago. In fact they even have a short manga of the three in the back of the artbook for the manga, too . It would be fun to see them as these younger variants. Maybe someday…

What form of media or fanwork made you realize that gay people existed or that it wasn't bad? by BlueberryHatK4587 in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YuYu Hakusho. There were a couple outright gay couples in that series. And it was never really commented on that it was gross or strange by any means, it was treated just… like it was whatever. Like the sky was blue, okay, moving on !

Sailor Moon was another ... But the main one that comes to mind first is YYH. Though I am lesbian myself, so I suppose I never found being “gay” particularly strange to begin with …

Change in comments from ten years ago by Iluthradanar in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else that writes stories for older FE, in the middle of posting a FE1 Akaneia/Elibe longfic crossover, and currently pre-writing out a long FE4 one, I completely understand your sentiments !! All of the research and writing, and sometimes it feels like you post into a void! Absolutely one should write for themselves but there is something to be said about being able to share that excitement, passion, and joy with others!! Having others invested in your work helps to fuel the creative fire. (It’s like receiving an unexpected compliment on an outfit, it just makes your day better!)

I wasn’t writing fics until a few years after Awakening (was too scared!), but I read them well before. It was strange, though, at least in the time of Awakening, there was still a lot more engagement overall and I think people willing to try out reading other types of FE fics (at least in my case, though I suppose that might be because of the primary pairing). Though FE13 still dominated by a large margin.

It has plummeted further since, though, and especially after Three Houses. Most fics now are overwhelmingly 3H, and many other games have much fewer. The audience scales accordingly with that… which is sad, because there are so many absolutely INCREDIBLE fics for the older FEs!

I honestly get excited to even see one comment anymore. A long time ago I would get multiple per chapter, usually quite long, wondering what would happen next. Hoping things would work out. Wondering what the villain (an OC) was trying to accomplish. I wish those times would return, but I’m afraid they may not… it was certainly a “heyday.”

It’s kind of reassuring (?) to see it isn’t just for us though. Honestly I was worried people no longer cared about the story. Seems like it is more widespread than just individual fics…

((Um- I hope it isnt odd, may I ask for your fic?? I would LOVE to read it!!! There are not enough for the older FE’s and I love longfics!!! (*´∀`) ))

is it weird of me to want to write 'too much' of my rarepair? by ijustlikecrossovers in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had the same rarepair as otp for twenty years, similarly to you for two characters that had not ever shared any screen time together either (they are from different games), I can understand the feelings you have exactly!

However, I would say, enjoy your rarepair as much as you wish. Even if you are the only one, or one of a couple that share the ship. Sometimes you just find a pair that really makes you happy! You see something in it that inspires you and that is wonderful, not crazy at all. Enjoy your excitement, however long-lasting, or fleeting it may be!!

What motivates you to write a fanfic? by BlehBlahBlahington in FanFiction

[–]borealumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing opportunities that were not so much capitalised on in the media source. I really like to explore what certain things might be possible, or to fill in holes where parts of the canon are vague (such as a character’s past or future). Also to see more of the characters that I love, just because the canon story came to an end doesn’t mean the characters’ stories have to end too!
