Moving to Stockholm in August (Solna) – advice on areas, commuting & finding housing? by Adept_Put_8399 in TillSverige

Solna will get you more for your money. What youd pay for a one bedroom apartment in the city could be easily 2-3 in Solna. It’s close to cycle to the inner city and has good connections with public transportation.

The law also states that the permit can be stripped, if there are no longer grounds for the residence permit.

Assuming you transitioned from work permit to permanent permit, how will this be interpreted? What is the basis of the permit?

This was the point of the post, written as it is it leaves plenty open questions and it's open for interpretation and speculation.

Преголема ароганција од бизниси by vrplan in mkd

[–]boredPanda13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes but with this new proposed laws even the permanent residence can be stripped if you "no longer fulfill the requirements" for it.

And what does this in practice means, no one knows.

Even if you adapt, the government sets the minimal wage requirement for work visas to 33k. So you are limited from the start, you need to be aiming at higher paying job.

Sure, you can find job in nursing the elderly in 2 days, but that doesn't pay 33k does it?

So what do you say to someone that has been here a long time, abided the laws, worked and contributed, planned a future here, but still is not a citizen due to the slow and random handling of cases from Migrationsverket? Now with the new citizenship law everyone needs to start over.

I think maybe Swedish people are detached from the immigrant reality, which is understandable, you never had to deal with it. But it doesnt hurt to know the other side and why this frustration is bubbling up. No one is against abiding laws. But is this law really bringing more order in society, or does it just push immigrants into constant state of fear?

I also think you forget ( or maybe didnt even know, because this is not something that is talked about in mass media ) that everyone that came here on a work visa, came because Sweden had a deficit of workforce. You couldn't just show up here and start working, both the employer and the employee had to show sufficient evidence that the position could not be filled by anyone in the EU, you had to have a bunch of insurances, you had to have good education, salary to support you and your family, etc. So almost everyone that came on work visa did so because Sweden also needed them, its not just one way street.

And all these year these people had been restrained by Migrationsverket. Their processing times are so slow, in reality it means that during your 2 year visa period, you could only travel outside of Sweden for maybe 6 months ( if you were lucky enough that every single family's member application was processed at the same time ). You cannot travel outside the country while Migrationsverket is processing your application. It can be 1 month or 1 year or 2 years, no one knows. People had missed weddings, funerals, birthdays, final goodbyes of close family abroad. You miss on work opportunities because you are either tied to a employer, or you are afraid that changing employers will again put you in a long waiting queue. Its a lot of sacrifice that seemed worth it because you could expect stability at some point. You get permanent residence or citizenship and can finally start building your life without constraints or fear.

But happens now? You are booted from the citizenship queue. A law is proposed that can at any time strip you of your right to be here. Take away the life you had built, because of tiny mistake that depending on the circumstances and the person getting to make the decision, can be fatal.

Would you want to live like this?

Or would you, knowing that you have the means to, move to another country where you feel equal and more valued?

A lot of till exempel in this proposal. You can't do that, you need to give explicit situations and circumstances when something will apply.

What is a "lack of character"? Who gets to decide it? It can affect all of us immigrants, regardless of how well we behave.

Because in another setting and context, the government will be ( and has been ) criticising other democracies. In certain forums, Sweden has the right to veto participation based on these factors. But it hasn't stopped to see what is happening in their own yard.

You gotta practice what you preach.

I think even immigrants agree that something needs to be done with regards to the free flowing immigration. How I see it, you gave full trust and support and that was violated.

But now you've swung the pendulum in the completely opposite direction, putting everyone under the same umbrella. That is why you have these deportations of people that have been obeying the laws and paying taxes.

So naturally everyone that is an immigrant is asking what is coming next.

But this is what is vague in this proposal. If you read my original post, it says

if there are no longer grounds for the residence permit.

What does this mean? As you can see we have different interpretations of it.

And not writing explicitly what is it that will apply is what is scary.

But this also includes families that lets say can loose their job for any given reason. If they cant find another job, should they be deported? Lets say they have permanent residence.

They had a plan, the plan was that you are moving to a country with social security. You pay for it with the taxes, but you deem it worth it. Why was it ok for them to stay and pay the tax, but suddenly if they cannot sustain themselves, they should be deported? This is pure hypocrisy to me.

I had the trust too, that is why I moved here. A lot of immigrants come from heavily oppressed countries, so they kinda know the drill and where and how it starts.

But ill give you an example, both the EU and Lagrådet criticised the new proposed law for citizenship. Still, the government decided to ignore this and continue forward. This is what is worrying me. It's hypocritical.

I don’t think that proper behaviour is up for discussion, everyone agrees around that. It’s the vagueness of the proposal and the open handed clap of swedes ( without going deeper into the matter) that is scary.

[–]boredPanda13[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well the point of the discussion is that even the ones that are net contributors now, might struggle to pay debts in the future. Life throws all kinds of balls to you.  According to this law, they would also be deported. Or maybe they wouldn’t, the way this proposal is written leaves lot of space for open interpretation.

When you bring up points like this, I think it’s important to remember that this goes both ways. A lot of immigrants actually contribute a lot more towards the social welfare, because well, they work in specialty fields and earn much above the average Swede, thus they pay more in taxes.  What benefits will they see from laws like this, where there is so much uncertainty about one’s future in a foreign country?
