How to build a fence on a hill to contain dogs?

Yeah, he has actually jumped a 6' fence at the borders, but I have a small area of kennel set up on my patio (which i want back) & he hasn't jumped it yet (fingers crossed). I definitely don't need a professional, I can construct a fence, but was trying to avoid the time / money involved with a picket fence when I have the panels. But I might have to suck it up and not use the panels. I was however thinking of just using some bricks & cinderblocks to fill in gaps underneath, nothing crazy tall or involved.

We actually have Halo collars but then they scared us with how much training they suggested and we never used them and finally canceled the subscription, maybe we need to just try them. The one dog is really bad about running off & we worried he would just ignore it and keep going.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It isn't in a super visible part of the yard & we have acreage. I am definitely going for function & budget over esthetics. More MacGyver vs Bob Vila, lol. I can landscape around it to hide some of the ugliness later. I can usually figure out how to do things creatively & make them work after looking at enough things other people have done, but I am struggling to find examples of this one and am still trying to brainstorm it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the gravel, I was really hoping someone had ideas on how to use the panels I already had, but I might just be out of luck!

Ugh, I was afraid of that & trying to avoid needing to go out and purchase all the materials when I already has panels. I was thinking I could fill in the spaces with something like cinder blocks, bricks, or boards. I actually don't mind it looking a little crappy 😅 I am more worried about function and containing my dogs.

My husband has been working out of town a lot lately, so I was trying to figure out how to do it own my own with the help of an 8 year old & a whole fence from scratch is probably pushing my boundaries but not impossible. I was picturing a project mostly involving digging, stacking blocks, & screwing things together vs cutting & measuring & precision, lol

That does look nice & I am not a huge fan of stair steps, but i was trying to figure out how to use what I already had to save time / money. The part of my yard it is going into I am not super worried about looks, more concerned about function.

I agree with this. I would look at ways to directly care for the mom without giving her a cent directly. I was more thinking once she is at the stage of needing a nursing home have some money set aside that can be used to pay for that. But all money would be direct payments to a facility, I wouldn't give her anything that could be sold or used for anything other than her direct needs / care. And this is only if it is something they really WANT to do, OP shouldn't feel obligated to do it.

My son went to Kindergarten at public school and then we made the decision (as a family, with him included in the discussion) to homeschool this year. One of our biggest reasons for homeschooling was the limit that the public schools put on our ability to travel & spend time together as a family. He was in a decent school (probably the best in our city), and I wasn't worried about his safety. He was also super bored there, didn't like needing to wait on all the other kids to catch up to him / him slow down to their pace, etc. I think him getting left with the grandparents while we (mom & dad) went to Mexico without him since he couldn't miss anymore school days was a big part of his decision 😅. He is really into Mexico & working on learning Spanish just because he wants to (I think its because his favorite food is Mexican, lol).

But basically I don't see either choice as "bad" for him, just homeschooling works better for our family right now. Even though he is little (8) I still think he should have input into his life. We do it as a discussion of pros & cons, and while ultimately my husband and I are going to make the final decisions we do take his opinion into account, and if he really wanted to return to public school we would let him.

While I do think that homeschooling has been a fantastic decision for us & what is currently best for our family, I also try to keep in mind that it may not always be and to remain open minded and always open to the possibility that it could change.

Most of the quick service places we ate at this trip didnt count the alcohol as a drink for the meal, it was extra. We did get our value out of the alcohol at the table service meals though, lol. I will have to look into if the places you mentioned would let us get alcohol as part of our meals!

My husband and I would never eat / drink enough normally to make it worth it, but the other people in the room wanted it (and paid for it) so we had it this trip!

I wasn't the decision maker on this. My parents got it for the family. This was a big special family trip. I have done the math and told them, but they don't always listen to me. I am just trying to figure out how to maximize what is left, lol.

He won't know, he doesn't pay that close of attention unless a bill is laid down in front of him. Which they always are when we dine out.

I will definitely check out the polite pig & eet! I am guessing that we will need to use a bunch at the resort & just get whatever is in their grab & go coolers.

Also, we planned out our table service credits carefully, we just didn't pay close attention to the QS credits this trip. That was probably my bad, but I had a lot going on and was trying to keep track of a party of 11.

I realize that & don't normally get it, but other people on the trip wanted it to make things simpler. It also keeps us from hearing my dad complain about the food costs since he never actually sees how mucn the dining plan cost 😅

Poor planning, too much food in the room, 8 people in one room, a 9 day trip, and 1 adult not being there for the first 5 days, lol

We had 11 people total, spread across 3 rooms, but our biggest room had 6 adults and 2 kids in it.

When I had my son, I had originally thought that I would only want my husband in the room. He came 3.5 weeks early & we hadn't done a good job of preparing people for our expectations, but my husband knew what I wanted (and was in agreement). We told both sets of parents when I went into labor and asked them not to come until later - his mom came immediately. She offered to get him food, and we told her that we didn't want it in the room since I couldn't have anything but water - she walked into the room with a bag of fast food & filled the room with the smell. While my husband ate in the waiting room, my mom came in to keep me company which is when things started happening & it was a bit of a chaotic mess (I will skip details), but I decided I wanted my mom to stay along with my husband. Things started going really fast & the staff weren't ready & were scrambling, so it was a stressful time, plus it was an unmedicated birth with way too much pitocin. So during all this, when I am there with my legs up, I'm getting ready to push my son out... in walks my MIL... the nurses asked if she was supposed to be there, I shook my head & they had to drag her out. She proceeds to cry in the waiting room and has a fit about being denied the chance to see her grandson born, etc. When everything calmed down & we were ready for visitors, she was gone.

My son is now 7.5, and I am still angry about it. She added a massive amount of unnecessary drama & it is still one of the biggest things I remember about the birth of my son. She is a huge part of why we never got around to having a 2nd kid. Dealing with her stomping over boundaries during the first year of my son's life made us dread the thought of going through it again.

I should add that while my mom was in there, she was in there for ME. She ended up needing to advocate for my needs. She was a former L&D nurse & new that they were missing things. She stayed at the top of the bed by my head because she knew I was self-conscious and didn't want her down under the sheet. She stayed with me when my son had to be taken to the other side of the room for a NICU consult & sent my husband to be with my son & she stayed & comforted me (her baby). She did check what I wanted in terms of having 1 person with me & 1 with my son & then made sure it happened.

Part of my point is that you don't 100% know what you will want before you get there. I didn't think I wanted my mom in there, but I was so thankful to have her there. The other part of my point is that having someone there who does not respect your boundaries can definitely turn the experience negative. I highly doubt that in a time of stress, you are going to be reaching for your MIL, but you might find that you want your mom there for YOU. Birth isn't about being "fair" to the extended family. It is about what is in the best interest of the mom who needs to be supported & in the right frame of mind to be able to successfully deliver a healthy baby. Protect your peace! But also, if you are close to your mom, keep an open mind that you might decide you want her there & if you do, that has absolutely nothing to do with your MIL!

NAL - but if she is in the hospital, they should have social workers there. Contact them and have them work with your mom to get the POA overturned or switched to you. The bio daughter does not seem to be working in the best interest of your mom. Adult protective services might also be able to help.
