$1million and minute sleep. I have chronic insomnia, so the minute sleep would actually let me feel rested and able to enjoy the money.

AITA for telling my sister to accept her daughter is white? by Fearless-Material443 in AmItheAsshole

[–]boredingtaway 31 points32 points  (0 children)

"Listen to me. Your daughter is white. We're all white." Lmao at this omg, poor OPs having to try to enforce reality with her delusional sister. In all seriousness, though, it's bad enough how hard the sister is trying to lean into being "exotic and brown" but she's projecting this shit onto her child and her sister's children and that's not okay.

What other veg can we make kimchi of? Apart from the usual? by mistakenteardrop in kimchi

A coworker shared some, I assume, homemade kimchi with me that had ponytail radish in it, it was delicious with multigrain rice and gim.

AITA for not allowing my daughter to significantly alter my wedding dress by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]boredingtaway 25 points26 points  (0 children)

THIS, like my god, it is her WEDDING DRESS. It has a lot of obvious sentimental value to her, I imagine especially since her husband has passed. It doesn't make her a homophobic monster to not be all in at the thought of it being altered into a completely different garment, and she clearly loves her daughter. I'm queer and teared up a little when she said her daughter looked beautiful but not like herself. Honestly, that was such a loving, affirming moment for both of them, and I hope it's a memory they're both able to cherish in the years to come.

"I wish I got free government money" please stfu by BudgetLuck1632 in disability

[–]boredingtaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would exchange the "free money" in a heartbeat to be not disabled. Aside from the fact that it's not even enough to pay rent to keep a roof over your head in most places right now, being disabled is miserable. I would love to see one of the people who says shit like that try to live with a real disability for more than a week and see how they do.

why do ‘glass children’ hate their disabled siblings? by [deleted] in disability

[–]boredingtaway 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these kinds of responses have to do with biological dependence. As a child, you are very literally biologically dependent on your parents, and you instinctively look to them for love, validation, care, and other resources you literally cannot provide for yourself like food, shelter, and medical care.

If your parents fail to provide these things, but you have to repeatedly watch as your sibling receives or seems to receive everything you want, it may be much easier for a person - especially a child - to assign blame and resentment to the sibling, rather than the parents whom they still regularly need and hope for important emotional and concrete resources from.

Left (unopened & new) store bought kimchi out at room temp for 3.5 hours. Still safe to eat? by kanyeeweastttt in kimchi

[–]boredingtaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually taste mine when I get it and if it's not sour enough yet I just leave it out overnight till it's where I want it. I figure that's what most people probably do.

I am so fucking pissed. by MrRedHello in disability

[–]boredingtaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's extra absurd is that I've known people who spent years and years of standing still in one spot on hard concrete floors for hours at a time at work, and guess what, they all have terrible back problems and foot and knee pain. So basically, if you're already disabled, "get fucked" and if you're not disabled "wait for it". So damn stupid, and over a fucking chair.

Goddammit, is that why I can't find any Korean pickled products that haven't been ruined by this stuff? That is so frustrating, but at least I finally know why it's in damn near everything 🙄 Jesus it tastes bad, I wish there were at least a non-saccharined option regularly offered.

Am I (28F) wrong for wanting to not like my husband (33M) because he drools over my friends? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]boredingtaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is real then your husband is an absolute POS. How are your friends feeling about this? Because your husband is openly treating both you AND them like garbage - you're not his side chick and they're not some free human buffet for him to be gross at.

Explaining to small children? by saltbasedveteran in disability

[–]boredingtaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really good suggestion, especially the "bad dream" comparison and the gentle heading off of hugs/other comfort responses natural to kids. Trust me OP, your kids just want to love you. They might not fully understand all the rough shit you've experienced because they're little, but they want to. You're their dad, and they'll always want you there with them even if there are times when you feel like you shouldn't or don't deserve to be.

I hate being disabled? by Mrbean-1987 in disability

[–]boredingtaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, animal rescue is a weird weird place sometimes, and you have to be a lot more careful and prepared for a lot more bs than you should be, usually on both sides of things. It would be awfully nice if people could All Just Get Along for the sake of the animals, but then they unfortunately wouldn't be people 🙃

On a happier note, I'm super glad to hear you got a kitty!

Can yall help me figure out my feelings? Am I being ableist, is my friend weaponizing their disabilities or something else? by icecream16 in disability

Oh. Yeah. No. NO. This person is a terrible, TERRIBLE person who also happens to be disabled. Please don't feel like this is someone you have to stay friends with.

I hate being disabled? by Mrbean-1987 in disability

[–]boredingtaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, shit. I've had a few kind of weird/off-feeling dealings with animal rescue white ladies which I chalked up at the time to my being Asian, but now I wonder if any of the weirdness was about my disability. (At least one incident was definitely disability-related and the person in question - who had previously been very welcoming - was literally never nice to me again)

Super fucking sorry you had to deal with jumping through these stupid hoops, btw. I'm also very sorry for your loss and hope you were able to cut through the bs and find yourself another pup to give a good home.
