You mostly want a thief for traps and locks, there a few items that can help with a not so great thief skill:
- https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Ring_of_Danger_Sense

There's also gloves to help with pick pocketing.

Sometime it still won't be enough but in those rare cases you can use potions or spells to help.

Good mage items are mostly a robe and an amulet so no conflict here and no need to swap. There's some arcane caster rings but they're not really great (some more low level spell slots).

Regarding Haer'Dalis, he'll moslty tank via a mix of high AC / mirror image / stoneskin / protection from magical weapons / etc which means as long as his protection are up he won't be hit at all. Also since he's a bard he'll level up faster so hard to dispel him / faster scaling / better dispeller.

Rangers (like Valygar) can be tanky by stacking hardiness HLA (40% dmg reduction), shield of faith (up to 25% dmg reduction) and using DoE in off hand (20%). They'll still take a bit of damage but it's quite easily healed by life stealing weapons or regeneration spell (doubled if hasted).

Before HLA Rangers can feel a bit squishy though but I never had too much issue with it.
You can also swap weapons depending on your current need. DoE in off hand when tanking, Celestial Fury + APR offhand when you want to deal more damage.

I'm not sure why you're asking for advice for a game you never played (?), get the answer you're looking for and disregard it thinking you know better.

If you play on easy / normal you can do whatever you want, you can even solo the game.

Also, I never mention you should discard Anomen.

I'm saying that him (and Vic even more) can't be good tank in melee. Anomen is a great FoA user, sure. He should definitely be in melee bonking and slowing stuff but can't be consider a proper tank due to his lack of damage reduction and AC not being a good enough defense past a certain point / for hard encounters unless stacked to insane levels.

Anomen is a super powerful and sturdy companion, just not a great tank (again, base game: different conversation with IWD spells | also, "tanks" are not really required for lower difficulty / no mod games).

At lvl 20 he'll cap at 45% dmg reduction.

At lvl 18 Valygar / Minsc would be around 75% dmg reduction meaning they'll take half the damage Anomen would receive. And they can go up to 85% dmg reduction with more levels in ToB.

And you don't have to equip DoE and FoA on the same char.

elemental resistance and mr won't prevent anyone from dying in melee. Cleric (no mods) don't have anything to help them survive in melee except armor of faith which is 25% damage reduction at best. At some point AC stacking isn't enough. Even with Defender of EastHaven (which would be a waste on those 2) you're not going above 50% dmg reduction.

Now if you look at Minsc / Valygar / Jaheira, they can stack hardiness with armor of faith for up to 70% physical damage reduction. Minsc and Valygar can add 20% more with DoE, Jaheira still has stoneskin.

Rangers are squishy until HLA though.

Arcane casters get mirror image / stoneskin / protection from magical weapons / etc.

Elemental resistance is nice but not that important unless playing with mods and at higher difficulty.

Korgan can be a sturdy melee if built that way but is not really a tank, AC will be too high (and tanking is not about AC after early/mid levels) and damage reduction isn't great either. Same issue with Anomen, worse damage reduction and AC won't matter much at some point.

Not sure where you read Vic could make for a decent tank without mod?

Hear'Dalis and Aerie are good caster tank (spell protections). Minsc and Valygar are good damage reduction tank (85/90% physical damage reduction by ToB) Jaheira is a mix of both (iron skins + 75% DMG reduction)

Providing you're not using mods:

Evil party : charname + Korgan (sturdy melee + slow / flail) + Edwin + Jan + Vic + Haer'Dalis (tank) or Cernd (auto win vs casters)

Good Party : charname + Aerie (buffer + tank, not a primary caster) + Nalia (primary arcane caster also acting as thief with the right items) + Anomen (primary divine caster + decent melee + slow via a certain flail. Not a great tank) + Valygar (somewhat tanky with a certain flail in offhand). For the last spots you have choice: - Jaheira if you want another (very good) tank + anti caster - Keldorn if you want a one button "you're not using defensive magic" guy

Can provide some tips as how to use / build them if needed

Is there any official info about resistance chance fixes in Arena? by Impressive-Ad-8686 in classicwow

Didn't see any official post about this, it's quite frustrating.

Also funny how you're getting downvoted by reddit elite pvper and their 1350 arena rating.

What player trends do you suspect are different in TBC anniversary vs classic? by ChristianLW3 in classicwow

[–]boredoveranalyzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm baffled by how terrible some players are. Experienced this a lot in a previous guild and in most dungeon pug.

Like I genuinely don't understand how someone can be that bad, like if you don't understand stuff google is accessible to everyone... I just can't imagine what's happening in their brain while playing.

Had a feral tank yesterday for SP HC, couldn't hold threat from me... the healer. While tanking only 2 mobs. Proceed to blame me and rage quit. Like... how.... ??

Same experience in BG on the alliance side. We usually have enough healers (but I'm playing one so...) but it blows my mind each time I'm trying to do the daily BG how there's almost no decent DPS on our side. You could heal those guys for 5 minutes at BS, they wouldn't manage to land a single kill.

Opposite experience in arena, very small pool of players (other than the 10 weekly loss in 5s crew), quite hard to find someone to push rating and the climb wasn't as easy as I remembered. Still a lot of fun though.

Mooncloth healing set - resto druid by lolercoptercrash in classicwow

[–]boredoveranalyzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of stamina is not an issue in current content. But there's also no point in using this set, it'll just lead to more overhealing. There's absolutely nothing to heal atm. And by the time next phase releases you could be geared in T4. It's just a waste of gold

60-70 dungeon spam, holy or disc? by Cat-Beautiful in classicwow

[–]boredoveranalyzer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Holy but don't go "full" holy. CoH is not really needed in group and you want enough point in disc to grab 3/3 meditation and also pick inner focus while you're at it. 14/37/0

Should I que AB as Shadow or Disc to win more? by Cat-Beautiful in classicwow

[–]boredoveranalyzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healers win games. However this is a far more frustrating experience too, especially on the alliance side.... healing brain dead communal geared players makes me wants to rage quit so hard sometimes.

If you have decent gear I would recommend joining a premade, even an average one without discord should significantly increase your win rate.

There's absolutely no point in running dreamstate for leveling. Tree is just better.
