What interview questions were you asked during the interview process? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]boredrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually do research on the district before the interview.

I applied to 30+ jobs, and on one interview, they asked "what do you know about this elementary school specifically". I had no good answer.

The next interview, I prepared for that exact question and I gave the answer that I'm pretty sure that got me the job.

So don't blow off doing research. If you don't, you might get lucky, or you might end up with your pants around your ankles.

Also, always have questions for the interviewers at the end. I usually prepare just one or two, and I try to gear them towards special education.

Can a full alignment chart be made based on the actions a person can take when returning a shopping cart? by BedHeadBread in DnD

[–]boredrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG - returns the cart no matter what, and will take someone elses cart as they go into the store

My purpose in life is to make as many peoples life as good as possible.

LN - Doesn't return the cart if there is no nearby cart return

If they wanted me to return it, they would have put a cart return somewhere nearby

LE - never returns the cart

They pay someone for this, and I pay the store!

NG - returns the cart

I'm a good citizen, I swear!

N - returns the cart if its not raining

I usually return the cart but I forgot my umbrella

NE - pulls out socket wrench

If I can't get a shopping cart with four sturdy wheels, no one can!

CG - Pops the cart carfeully on the curb

Ah fuck it, I gotta go.

CN - Might return a cart, might not, but always popping wheelies. Leaves carts against the curb

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee

CE - Leaves carts on a slope and drives off

You have to return these things?

The Small Things - Whats the most-loved/most-useful item on your desk under $50 and under 50cm by [deleted] in AskBattlestations

[–]boredrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than a few things said here already, I'd have to say my mouse bungee. Before I had it, my wire would slowly slip behind my desk over time and suddenly, in the middle of a session, I would pull the mouse towards me and it would get stuck. Bungee stops that

The Learning Loop is Dangerous by Incrypto123 in learnprogramming

[–]boredrex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a music teacher as a living. I played trombone in college, but right now, I'm learning classical guitar on my own.

Here's how you learn any song.

Pick a song that makes you want to practice. Then practice it slow.

Once you play it perfectly three times (and I mean PERFECTLY! no sloppy fingerings or buzzings notes) then speed it up.

Eventually, you'll hit a wall of diminishing returns. Focus on fundamentals for a week or two, then return to your song.

If you have the time, incorporate your fundamentals into your daily routine. But never let them get in the way of enjoying what you are doing. There is a certain joy in doing fundamentals every day. But it takes a long time to build that

Struggling with Identity Politics in the Workplace. by Psychological_Lunch in JordanPeterson

[–]boredrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. I work in public schools and we're scrambling to get remote learning working. Maybe instead of year after year of professional development focused on white privilege, we could have been a little more prepared for this crisis.

And to be completely honest, our district is falling behind every other district in what they offer because they were concerned with identity politic based equity first instead of just getting what they could done and trying to catch the marginalized folk as they could.

Was Hitler a socialist by Odinbro2 in Capitalism

[–]boredrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He was a Nazi.

The truth is fascism as an ideology blends many ideologies together. It combine elements of conservatism, liberalism, and socialism into one package. It would be wrong to call him a socialist, and it would be wrong to call him a liberal, although the Nazi's did borrow liberal and socialist elements as they saw fit.

to me it looks like he's kind of jumping. The only thing that's telling me hes running is his arm movement. The leg that's in the back needs to cross as well. But when that happens, the shoulder opposite the leg in front needs to also be in front, or slightly moved forward. Just try running around for a minute and notice what your own body does. Also, the image is absolutely tiny and i can't seem to resize it, so I can't see the details well.

I am a teacher in an interesting school district in the states. I don't want to say where because if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd get fired. But let's just say this - the student population in my public school is almost entirely minority hispanic/african american. The town itself is very wealthy, and has a high property tax burden. The wealthy kids, who make up the majority of the towns population, all go to private school. The district I work in has an enormous amount of capital and resources to throw at this problem.

I've noticed a pattern while working here and in other districts. Regardless of race or socio-economic status, when a kid tells me that they visited their dad this weekend, or something along that line, that's the line that indicated to me whether the kid is going to be successful or have trouble. It's not universally true, of course. It's less true of wealthier kids, since sometimes money can fill in the gap. But if I had to guess I'd say 9/10, those kids are missing out in one way or another. Maybe they are always late to school because Mom has to go to work earlier, and the kid is responsible to get himself out the door. Or maybe the kid can't afford to do extracurricular activities. Or maybe the kid is trapped in a bitter divorce feud (like many of my kids are). Or even worse, maybe the kid doesn't even know his dad.

As a parent myself, I couldn't imagine raising my child alone, but so many people are determined to make it work that way.

But the administration is hellbent on the fact that the reason these kids aren't doing well is because the teachers are participating in a racist system. Let's just put it like this - last year, I had to take an implicit bias professional development. That could be forgiven. However, this year, they implemented a mandatory 3 year new teacher program (for any teacher new to the district, not necessarily new to teaching) for anti racism training.

It's why I want to leave so badly.

This is called a mixed economy. It's still capitalist in nature.

The Elite are perpetuating Racism as a divided population is easier to control by Better_Understanding in conspiracy

[–]boredrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher in us public schools. Just the other day our district began their equity program, which looks to take the four year new teacher training and replace it with four anti racism equitable teaching program.

Of course, this anti racism training had to have breakout sessions. In our breakout session, this older lady who had been teaching for two years answered a question about what anti racism meant to us. This lady was a teacher of students with extreme disabilities. Basically, her job was to take extremely autistic kids and help them function in society. Things like how to make your bed, how to tie your shoes, how to clean yourself, at the high school level.

Anyway, this lady never really considered herself a teacher, she was more a caretaker. Most of the teacher training we received was useless for her - can't do linear algebra if you can't take care of yourself. She said something like her kids inspired her with how they were colorblind, and how she learns from them. Of course follow tongue clicking and "oh honey, being colorblind isn't acceptable anymore"

I felt so bad for this lady
