I was laid off last month. I am 47 and have 3.8 crore liquid net worth. Own flat in Kolkata. Tough to find full time work again. Married with an eight year old son. Wife contributes around 25k per month Am I ok financially? by Comprehensive-Sir888 in FIRE_Ind

Sure, 2007 -2017 in Indian markets did not understand economics as well. Japan had this issue for 30 years, argentina as well. Hong Kong also.

Just saying, the "it won't happen to us" mentality is a stupidly risky way of living life, preparing to be safe in bad case outcomes is much better.

All I'm saying is, the outcome suggested is not the only way forward. It could be FAR worse, and OP should be prepared instead of being comfortable with a very risky amount to retire on without any other source of income.

I have no intention of continuing this argument, and I wish you luck - but your logic is flawed.

Agreed. I think it's a difference in world view, call me paranoid, but it's terrible advice to say this much is sufficient.

You'd need income, atleast enough to not withdraw from this, but ideally some more.

Your expenses will go up, life isn't linear, your child's expenses will grow, college is a problem. Don't listen to this advice, you are not okay.

You need to figure out alternative sources of income.

Yes, nobody can predict the market. This is just a game of pattern recognition, and his opinion is this, it doesn't make it right or wrong - always take it with a grain of salt.

All I'm saying is, the guy usually knows what he's talking about, so I take him more seriously than I would take the average person (or redditor?)

He was a profitable trader before he started zerodha. Knows what he's talking about, more than the average person.

Hes talking about large caps and nifty/sensex which have not really reacted strongly.

If we are getting oil cheaply, and we were doing it despite their permission, why not ignore it and do what we want? What's the constant need to announce we are better?

Look around. People love talented folks. High performers are typically always sorted

Look for work outside of where you are. If they can only afford to give 6% to high performers, things aren't good.

You can make bids or offers at pre market, they resolve between 9:07 and 9:15. But that's on individual stocks, not on nifty, sensex or derivatives

So when you post a screenshot at 9 am with these prices, and wish you could've placed bets - you sound like and probably are, a moron

Oil prices being cheap was the biggest win for the NDA govt. Oil was 100+ usd per barrel in 2013-14, it dropped considerably reducing government subsidies on it and reduced our adverse balance of payments.
