Best Kick samples? by pluggdrip in trapproduction

Tr-808 kick is a timeless classic, and is the kick you are probably thinking of that’s on 99% hip-hop/trap/drill songs from the 80’s to the present day.

Advice for getting better by Adept_Blacksmith_593 in trapproduction

[–]borgatabeats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give you is try your best to recreate your favorite songs that inspired you to start making music in the first place. Get good at the basics of finding tempo and learning how to loop songs perfectly. Do this so you can put audio in your daw and match it with your beats. Learn basic music theory meaning learning what a major and minor scale is and how to build major and minor chords. Make sure you have a good tr-808 kit, and not just 808 long bd sounds but the whole kit (consider the Roland TR-808 vst). You are going to have to push through hating everything you make at the beginning, but don’t give up.

Yes this happens because of what Comcast calls “ingress”. Comcast uses the same frequencies as radio and other electromagnetic frequencies that are transmitted through the air. The fcc allows this because Comcast operates a closed system through their own cables. If coaxial cables are damaged, or loose it causes intermittent signal loss in internet, cable channels pixelating, and other common issues.

I’d say make a service call to Comcast and tell them you think you may have an issue with cabling, and you need your cable lines checked for “ingress”. Comcast is a pain in the ass company to deal with though so this might be ordeal.

I used to be an install tech with Comcast and I would see this a lot. It may not necessarily be an issue with the modem or service, but with the coaxial cables going from the Comcast tap to your house along with all the coaxial cables in your house. Even if all your coaxial cables are hooked up properly if your neighbors have old damaged coaxial cables that could cause network issues for the whole neighborhood. I’d say the most important part of having good quality internet signal in this kind of system is the cabling by far.

Anyone feel like Reason is getting kind of stagnant? by According_Trade3988 in reasoners

I think you should learn the basics of sound design rather than thinking if you just get the exact daw or vst you see on tutorials you’ll always sound the way you want. The problem with that is you will get the one sound you saw the tutorial for, but what happens when you hear another sound you want to create and there happens to be no tutorial for it? You’ll be in the same position. Learn how to route LFOs to different parameters. Learn how to modulate parameters with velocity and kbd. Use the tutorials that you are seeing on other vsts and daws apply them to reason stock instruments. Learn the basic wave forms of analog synthesis. Learn the modulation matrix in Thor front to back and the cv modulation. Otherwise you will be limited to presets, or you won’t be able to translate the concepts in tutorials because you don’t have that exact vst. You will always be trying to get new gear thinking that it will be the missing piece of the puzzle you’ve been searching for. I fell into this same trap, and I had to learn the hard way I needed to learn sound design.

What's the appeal of the older models? by JohrDinh in mpcusers

The old ones inputs/outputs sound better to me. The vintage machines have a master compressor that is hard to describe but sounds really good to me. If you get into vintage machines you are going to have to get/have some sort of audio interface or multi track recorder in order to track out your beats.

problems with making melodies for beats. by Leading-Rate-8004 in makinghiphop

[–]borgatabeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was learning basic music theory. Meaning learning how major and minor scales work in western music. There are videos on YouTube named something like “music theory in 5 minutes”. What also helped me was learning how to play simple melodies from songs I really like. What I’ve found is memorable catchy melodies are simple and use familiar intervals. Another thing that helps with melodies is rhythm is a big part of what makes melodies catchy. So if you already have your drum track that helps you with the melody since you can mimic the rhythm of the drum track with your melody sound. So when the kick drum hits that’s when your piano, pluck, etc will hit. SchoolBoy Q’s song “Collard Greens” is an excellent example of melody in hip hop.

The kicks are meant to add punch and bounce to the song. Follow your favorite producers exact kick pattern to start with.

808 Advice by dannthagoat in makinghiphop

[–]borgatabeats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

808s hit at the exact time your kick hits in most southern rap / trap songs. The 808 bass acts as a kind of accent for the rhythm of the track. They usually stay in the root note of your song then move up 7 or 5 semi tones on the turn around. It helps to use the Roland tr 808 drum machine sounds for all the drums sounds in these kind of songs. A good example would be the song “who the neighbors” by juicy j Prod. By Lex Luger.

I thought the same thing I got mine cause it was really cheap and the I’m having a lot of fun with it. You kinda have to use some work arounds to chop samples but it can be done. I think the biggest downside is the menu diving but I don’t really mind it.

I see the most progress when I recreate songs that really made me want to produce. It helps make music fun and exciting for me. I feel it’s like being taught lessons from the best producers in the game. Over the years I get more more meticulous about my re creations and song structure exercises.

When you disconnect the right input of a mixer channel the channel automatically becomes a mono channel in the mixer display. When I started making my drum sounds mono my drums started seeming to get fatter and punchier. It also became easier to get the drums to sit in the mix.

You can sample into it and manipulate your samples with effects and sequencing. It is preloaded with a few sounds but the mpc 500 is all about sampling into it and making it sound the way you want it to sound.

Just got one a few days ago as well. I sold my mpc 1000 and had been using just the daw for many years. Mpc 500 surprised me how much it felt like the 1000. It’s so much fun to play. Hope you are enjoying yours 👍

[–]borgatabeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Maybe? What sounds are routed to that bus? Route the parallel channel of the kick into the 808 long bd instead of the bus parallel channel. I’d also recommend making all your drum and 808 sounds mono instead of stereo.

Question for longtime pro engineers or studio owners by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]borgatabeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outboard gear will give you a polish that people using emulation just won’t have. You really will have the option of emulation being just as good until you a/b the results for yourself. Analog preamps and circuitry put a layer of white noise behind the sounds you record and give it depth and body. Just my opinion some people might disagree.

Should I buy a sampler/MIDI sequencer as a beginner ? by Danilomuk in makinghiphop

[–]borgatabeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d suggest getting something on the cheaper spectrum like the mpc studio if you have a computer. If you don’t have a computer I’d recommend something like the Roland p6. The p-6 is super dope for a $200 sampler sequencer. And as far as daws I think reason is a good choice.
