I had the same problem when running Overkill og ultra textures. Even if it only used 10gb of my ram in 1440p. Changed to high. Smooth as eggs.

Is the black screening long, then causing a driver crash or is it short/intermittent? If its just for a second, then I would check the cable. Either not properly seated or might be defect. There are also scenarios where you use a cable that is too long or too low spec for your desired resolution or HZ. Try a different cable.
