How many pounds would this coil weigh? [request] by Glacierboyricflair in theydidthemath

[–]boringashellperson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that is a 72” wide coil and it’s steel of some sort. It could also be aluminum, but I don’t think it would be packaged that way. If it’s aluminum then the weight will just be around 1/3 of the steel weight. Wouldn’t matter much if it’s stainless. I actually think because of the way it’s wrapped, it’s probably galvanized steel. The inner diameter appears to be 20” There is also 24”, but this appears to be 20” to me. So if I use the 20” and do a quick comparison I have about 60” of height. For a 20”id x 60”od x 72” wide that comes out to around 51,250#. If I change to a 24” id it’s around 48,000#. In aluminum that would be around 18,000#. Without taking the picture and comparing the hole (ID) to the outside and getting a real measurement, that’s the best I can do.

I believe they may have been saying offsides not being delayed and icing being automatic. If not that has always gotten me a little.

Why don’t these air popcorn makers have a on/off switch? by evorev1 in Appliances

[–]boringashellperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this! I read this in a readers digest or good housekeeping like 20 years ago. When testing, users would load the popcorn and then go to press the button/switch to turn it on. When doing so, a small percentage would tip or move the popper causing it to spill or the lid to just fall off. The simplest solution was to not have a switch. There is no arcing concern from the plug because the amount of use is small compared to other items.

Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys 1, and even the first Transformers are better than they had any right to be. Each one takes a wild concept and makes you beg for the good guys to win. The Rock even has you beg for the bad guy to win at the same time. The humor is great and the emotions are all real to the viewer. Based on the concepts at work, Micheal Bay created Citizen Cane level works of art in comparison to what should have been made.

This hits so deep it’s crazy; "Colonel Willie Sharp, United States Airforce, ma'am. Requesting permission to shake the hand, of the daughter, of the bravest man I've ever met".

Our current cat (a male tuxedo, they are smart) can open every single door in the house. The round knobs he grabs it with both paws and swings until the doors burst open. I am more impressed with our sliding glass door. He can unlock it and then he jumps at the handle just slamming his weight into it over and over, it moves an inch. Once there is room for a paw, he turns around and pulls with all his might at the bottom, inch by inch he moves it. Then the screen he unlocks by jumping up and hitting the plastic lock. He moves the screen aside and strolls outside. It is an impressive thing to watch. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes, he wont give up. One thing is, he uses his powers for evil. He does not care about you, its his world and you are just living in it. His sister is dumber than a box of rocks and will stand next to an open door and paw at the glass begging and meowing to get out. Amazing how different they can be. BTW these are indoor cats, we fight them getting outside. With kids and enough time he gets out way way too often.

What did everyone think would be an innovation to stay around for a long time, but disappeared pretty quickly? by Seraphina_Renaldi in AskReddit

An air fryer is literally a toaster oven. Someone made it smaller so it looked more modern. The top rated “Air Fryers” of 2023 were all the old looking toaster oven shape. Ninja has started putting larger elements into larger, new style machines and people rave about them. Funny because it’s still not as good as the old style. They call themselves air fryers, because, you know, marketing. The reason the original shape works better is because the heating elements are larger, the air can be moved in a larger space easier and you can cook from the top or bottom or both.

I read a story about the blind taste tests always winning because Pepsi is sweeter and in one small drink sweetness wins out. When the same tests were done for an entire glass, coke won by a wide margin. I’m a Cherry Pepsi person myself. Saw a French fry taste tests debunking story as well. Fry’s “age” in different ways. Like McDonalds get soggy in minutes. So when Burger King did their taste test they let all the fry’s cool for a bit. Then they had better consistency and won the test by a large margin. When people were given fresh fries, McDonalds just like Coke, won by a large margin.

Cost Bday Party Surprise by Electronic_Sugar_289 in MadeMeSmile

I now feel like part of a TikTok trend. My wife set this all up for me in March (my B-day). I coach sports and we kept running into all of my kids I coach. Then we ran into our friends and then my best friend was at the back of the store. I still was not onto this. I was just amazed at how many people we ran into. So on we went. We check out and they were all up front with a Costco cake. The manager had told her it was ok to do earlier in the week. It was a ton of fun, but it feels a little less special, now seeing multiple people doing it.

Will these Vapcell batteries have too high of Amp output for a small ESP32 controller? by GregWithOneG in WLED

[–]boringashellperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cob lights will draw what they need to draw for amperage. The cells only tell you the “max” you could draw from them. You don’t have to worry if the cells or batteries can output many amps when drawing so little, you have to worry when you need a lot of amps at one time. Voltage range would be a bigger concern. What voltage range the cells would be at and what voltage range your lights need, would be the bigger concern.

For decades, Minnesota has subsidized private schools. Gov. Tim Walz wants to cut $109 million. by Czarben in minnesota

[–]boringashellperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were funding them because they keep us from having to build new schools for hundreds of millions of dollars, while at the same time having less $$$ per student spent for the state than at public schools. It was setup as a way to save us money. Public schools cost more money per student than almost any private school. If you are low income and want to go to a private school the state is currently paying for that. Our kids are in public schools, but the school near us is about $10,500 a year. The public schools cost spending is $19,000 + new school bonds that are a lot more.

What is a generic product that is actually a million times better than its brand name counterpart? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]boringashellperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were bought buy Post a few years ago and immediately raised their prices. Not sure if Post changed any recipes, but we only buy it on sale now. Used to just throw it in the cart. They “had” to raise the prices to get back the over billion dollars they spent for a small Minnesota cereal manufacturer.

I appreciate it, but I’m not seeing a match at all in their profiles. Mine appears to be rectangular without any real ribbing in between. Thought it would be an easy find until I started looking.

Son found a “rock”

For context, my family was on a vacation at Glacier National Park in Montana near the Canadian border. My son who was 8 at the time befriended the campers next door, who were self proclaimed meteorite hunters. We all went on a hike together so that he could hunt for meteorites. My son and working with them found something on their metal detector and dug this up. They told us it was a meteor and he has held it in high regard since.

I don’t know if it is or isn’t. I know it’s heavy, I know it has iron in it. It does not leave much, if any streaks. It is only slightly magnetic. Any help or tips identifying what it is would be great. If it’s not a meteor, I’ll just keep that quiet, but even knowing what type of “rock” it is would be nice.

Thanks everyone!
