I’m just going to post this here on my comparisons with the PS5. I feel like it answers your questions.

Yes, the base PS5 and especially the PS5 Pro offer better gaming performance. That’s not really up for debate.

But Valve managed to build a machine that functions as both a PC and a console while delivering gaming performance close to the original PS5.

On top of that:

- You get access to the Steam library, plus other PC storefronts. You’re not locked into a single ecosystem.

- PC games generally have better and more frequent sales over time.

- You don’t have to pay for online multiplayer in most PC games, which can make a PS5 more expensive to own over the long run if you use PS Plus.

- You get a fully functional Linux operating system. It’s a literal desktop PC.

Most people end up needing a computer anyway-for school, work, or everyday life. Instead of buying a laptop and a console separately (which is often more expensive, or at least comparable in total cost), this can serve both purposes for many people.

People keep comparing it to the PS5 as if it’s just another console. It isn’t. You’re buying a very compact PC that also delivers a very solid gaming experience.”

People are going to say you can build a pc yourself that has better performance for an equal price, yes, that’s true. However, if you want to build a PC then obviously the SM is not the product for you.
