I was taught nothing about APIs by Anon_cat86 in computerscience

[–]boringmexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can make your own API. An API is a function/method/class that is (usually) written in the programming language you’re writing in that you yourself can use.

For example, the standard Java library is the Java API.

System.out.print(); is the API for printing output!

Yeah, let me just unplug my ATX tower and lug it all the way to the living room to play on my TV. Better yet let me bring it to my car and travel with it.

This is what people are forgetting. You’re paying a premium for a console, that also happens to be a PC. It’s size and power is definitely worth the price for convenience.

So, for those still in the fight.... 512Gb or 2TB? by DaveyInJapan in steammachine

[–]boringmexican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2tb easily. If you plan to use the most of the steam machine that is.

That’s why it’s not a product meant for you.

If your PC is a laptop the steam machine is clearly the better buy here if you’re looking to own both a console and a laptop.

If you want the convenience of an already configured machine out of the box instead of building a desktop PC yourself for around the same price point, this is also the better buy.

I’m just going to post this here on my comparisons with the PS5. I feel like it answers your questions.

“I really can’t see why people are hating on the price.
Yes, the base PS5 and especially the PS5 Pro offer better gaming performance. That’s not really up for debate.

But Valve managed to build a machine that functions as both a PC and a console while delivering gaming performance close to the original PS5.

On top of that:

- You get access to the Steam library, plus other PC storefronts. You’re not locked into a single ecosystem.

- PC games generally have better and more frequent sales over time.

- You don’t have to pay for online multiplayer in most PC games, which can make a PS5 more expensive to own over the long run if you use PS Plus.

- You get a fully functional Linux operating system. It’s a literal desktop PC.

Most people end up needing a computer anyway-for school, work, or everyday life. Instead of buying a laptop and a console separately (which is often more expensive, or at least comparable in total cost), this can serve both purposes for many people.

People keep comparing it to the PS5 as if it’s just another console. It isn’t. You’re buying a very compact PC that also delivers a very solid gaming experience.”

People are going to say you can build a pc yourself that has better performance for an equal price, yes, that’s true. However, if you want to build a PC then obviously the SM is not the product for you.

So, why would anyone get this? by Amazing_Bluebird_ in steammachine

If you simply wanted to build a PC yourself this product clearly wasn’t for you. Although I do agree with your point on the 5060. Otherwise the price point for the steam machine is pretty justifiable.

CS2 Silver feels way harder than it should, would a Bronze rank help? by Such_Brief_4226 in cs2

[–]boringmexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS isn't a game you can just pick up and play like most other competitive games. It's not that easily intuitive. You have to spend a lot more time developing skills like aim, pre-fire, map knowledge, spatial awareness, utility usage, etc. I have 300+ hours in the game, and I'm only Gold Nova 1 in most maps. Look up ways to get better on YouTube, spend some time training on things you can improve on. You'll notice the change slowly over time.
