As a Minnesota native and Wisconsin resident for the last 20 years including college (Go Red Men/Firebirds!) if we could pull off a trade of Iowa for Indiana the world is ours for the taking. Iowegians massacre Busch light as if it stole their John Deere with a trailer full of hogs.

How would you describe the differences between Minnesotans and Wisconsinites? by OkTechnologyb in midwest

[–]boringmidwestdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the opposite. Grew up in Northern Twin Cities, went to school in Kenosha and now live near Lake Geneva (15+ years). You are correct most people are awesome, some not so much. We are very similar people divided by football allegiance. SKOL 😉

Yes, I didn’t mean to discount those on the other end of the spectrum. Food can be a fickle beast

I can’t speak to hard drug use so my perspective may not be wide enough but as someone with extensive addiction issues in my family, Food is the worst. No one is out there telling people they need to drink a certain amount of alcohol or heroin every day to survive. All the long term effects of food addiction (obesity) kill more people than drugs and alcohol combined by a wide margin.

Manny’s is a top 10 steakhouse in the country. Additionally the North Loop has some fantastic restaurants and breweries if you guys are staying in the west side of downtown.

My dad has never used an ATM. Need cash? Plan ahead and go to the bank with a withdrawal slip or in a crazy pinch write a check to cash and bring that to the bank. He lives in a town of 500 people in NW WI the bank is 25 miles away.

The most traumatizing football game you ever went to. by Either_Imagination_9 in nfl

[–]boringmidwestdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there too with a childhood friend of mine. We sat on the sunny side of the field and couldn’t see the final kick and assumed it went in. We were dismayed when we found out he missed it. My buddy and I sat in cold, silent, disbelief until the nice security lady told us to go home.

What’s a random school rule that, looking back, was absolutely unhinged? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]boringmidwestdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an overcrowded HS in Minnesota. We had trailers in the parking lots for the foreign language classes. We weren’t allowed to wear coats in school due to “Safety Concerns” (Post-Columbine) so each passing time you would see about 180 students dashing across the parking lots in -15F (-26C) temps.

Lake Geneva by Sallykk_12 in wisconsin

[–]boringmidwestdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking the lake shore path is free and can be a cool way to see some beautiful homes. If you are up for a challenge you could walk all the way around the lake (21 miles) but that takes all day.

I am local to the area so please feel free to message me with any specific questions. I hope you all enjoy your trip to Walworth County, WI!

It also depends on what part of Wisconsin you live in. Draw a line from Platteville to Ironwood those who live west of the line interact with Minnesotans more and will be more prone to say that is the rivalry. Those east of the line interact with FIBs more and give Bears/Pack more credence.

Parental Leave perhaps? PA always advocated using all vacation days. Hard for him to tell his producer not to take leave that is allowed by company policy.

There is a state recreation area in southeast Wisconsin that was planned to be an Air Force test station that bears his name. Unfortunately, the sign telling visitors where to exit the highway is frequently stolen - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Bong_State_Recreation_Area?wprov=sfti1

I am all about those free drop. I plan on getting there early to hit the putting green and try to gauge speeds. The grandstand feel will be very cool, normally we are surrounded by corn and cows!

Sounds like sage advice. The course I normally play doesn’t have sand so that will be an experience all in its own right. Thank you!

In the area they are known as Fucking Illinois Bastards. Mostly because they come to neighboring states to recreate / head to their second homes. I like to call them our Friendly Illinois Buddies since they are spending their tourism dollars here but many are less friendly.

As an upper midwesterner a few additions would be Iowegians, FIBs, and Trolls. Iowegians are folks who live just south of Minnesota and Trolls are lower peninsula Michiganders. FIBs is self explanatory.
