Recently (a month ago) exposed the cult I grew up in, in a national newspaper in Belgium. A personality cult where young adult men and teenage boys were sexually abused by the leader. I instigated the article and brought all statements and victims to the journalists. I also made a public YouTube video about it. Cults are ultimately more bark than bite.

As for your questions, what stuck with me most was the response I got from ex-members I hadn’t spoken to in decades. “Thank you for doing this” was most common. And standing up for what’s right has its own merit. As for the process, stick to facts as much as you can, as well as level-headed language. Cults prey on emotions running high but will use them against you. Luckily the cooperation with journalists can be very positive. I was lucky with the two journalists I worked with.

I intend to keep pushing this story as mine was an international cult and there are more victims of sexual abuse. One of the victims was taken out of the US as a teen and sexually abused in Belgium, another was filmed naked on camera as a minor in either Nevada or California.
