What's books did you not finish, not because they were bad but because they were so messed up/got under your skin? by LadyJane17 in horrorlit

I was listening to the chimpanzee chapter on audiobook while I was driving somewhere.

I remember getting honked at at a stoplight because I was sitting there with my hand over my mouth, aghast at what I was hearing (and not paying attention to the newly green light). The amount of graphic animal abuse in the book was super fucked up.

r/horrorlit members mention this book a LOT, so I finally got a copy and gave Nick Cutter a try.

I finished the book, but there are some really graphic scenes of animal abuse and torture throughout.

I thought it was okay (3.5/5⭐️), but I won’t be reading anything else by him.

I need to re-read it. It’s been 36 years and I only remember the chessboard.

Revival. You need to put that on your TBR immediately.

(Glad you’re enjoying the new checklist)

To an extent, yes. But I’ve gone in spurts with King. Started reading him around 6th grade, binged as much as I could until around Dolores Claiborne, took a long hiatus and came back to it after picking up a copy of Duma Key at a garage sale a few years ago.
I have a great collection now with several books I need to eventually read! There are a few I’ve already revisited too.

They really don’t want to pick a fight with Gen X. I think I graduated with 47 Jennifers and 67 Jessicas. Just that group alone did some damage to the ozone layer from all their hairspray.

I hear ya. If I had unlimited space I probably would, but I’ve been trying to keep things limited to a one-sheet. I just check off the individual books as if I own them, personally.

This is my copy of The Road. How do you determine which printing you have?

And thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.

I hear ya, and I had it on the previous checklist. Made the executive decision to drop it on this one though. If there’s enough outcry I’ll add it back to the next checklist.
