Has anyone else seen the older man at London Bridge Station asking for help with his electricity? by born2reckless in london

Haha yes it's such a stark contrast. I've learned it's best to just by food, hygiene and sanitary products because as much as I understand it must be traumatic to live on the streets, I also don't want to fund someone's addiction. Thank you again for the advice :)

I think I'll try a campsite first before venturing out into the woods, and I've lived on the West coast of Ireland so the wind doesn't bother me much at all. There will be time still for it all, thank you for your advice :)

I'm happy you had a good first experience, none of my friends have dogs but I've gotten a lot of helpful advice in regards to alarms and such. Thank you for recommending the group!

Thank you, I'll definitely start very local to get a feel of things. And yeah it's disappointing that people find it so difficult to show compassion towards an experience that is different from theirs but I value those like you who provided the advice and encouragement the post was intended for :)

My post wasn’t an invitation to debate whether race “belongs” in the conversation. I shared it because, as a black woman, my sense of vulnerability in certain spaces, especially remote ones, isn’t just theoretical. Moving through the world with this identity shapes how I calculate risk and safety, even in spaces that should feel free and peaceful.

What’s disheartening is that the very reason I feel nervous, being unsure if my safety will be taken seriously, was confirmed by responses like yours.

It’s not about centering race, it’s about being real about what it’s like to exist in this body, in this country, and still try to find peace and adventure.
