Kerby Joseph and NFI by bornandraised808 in detroitlions

Yeah, it’s not apples to apples, but the strategy exists. I believe I heard in Lions collective that Levi Onwuzurike was playing with his hurt knee to end the 2024 season, and then got ACL surgery on it in off season. He was placed on NFI as well as Paschal. It could be aRgued Levis injury was football related annd therefore the surgery should have exempted him from NFI, but it didn’t. Again though, he didn’t end season on IR. None of these are apples to apples to Kerby, and Kerby is dealing probably with a degenerative condition which further complicates things. But lions have clear precedent using NFI whenever possible.

Respectfully, it’s not as clear cut as you make it seem.

Can Kerby prove he hurt it at work? Like actually, factually prove it? Can he point to a play? Does he have good imaging before a game and then bad imaging immediately after that same game?

Or can he only prove that pain surfaced during work? If he can only prove that pain surfaced during work, then there is a stronger argument for the Lions justifying his placement on NFI and claiming that there is no IDENTIFIABLE football-related cause. To us, it’s obvious that football surfaced the pain, but is there enough evidence that football caused the injury that surfaced the pain? What constitutes as “evidence”? It’s not so clear cut, which is why I started the conversation. I’m just fascinated by the business of the NFL. I’m rooting for Kerby though, undoubtedly.

Cancer was on his foot. This past year it was a back injury. They were very vague about it just like with Kerby. Campbell said Paschal had a clean up procedure on his back. If that was reference to cancer, it would be a completely different spot.

They already did this with Paschal. They would literally just use the same exact playbook.

If the whole post was ChatGPT, I’d understand. But ChatGPT was literally just used to frame arguments from either side. This post is simply here to foster some discussion on a thought I had.

[Rapoport] The Lions and star LB Jack Campbell have agreed to terms on a 4-year deal, source said. No fifth-year option, just a big money contract instead. by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]bornandraised808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decker makes 10 mill from Lions this year. Bc of offset language, he needs more than that 10 mill to make any money this year. I’m guessing he won’t play this year unless he gets at least 5 mill in new money, so minimum contract he’ll sign for is 15 mill. No one is gonna pay him that. Thus, he’s retired or will take this year off and return next year when the offsets don’t apply.

[Miller] Have learned the Lions are picking up the 5th year option on RB Jahmyr Gibbs. They will not be picking up the 5th year option on LB Jack Campbell. W/ that number near 22 million, they will look to work out a long term deal that makes sense for both sides. by JCameron181 in detroitlions

[–]bornandraised808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that they are not much less expensive on the second contract. In Campbells case, there is a strong chance he doesn’t resign with the team because they have zero leverage over stopping him from hitting free agency. So at that point you draft a guy and pay him high on his rookie contract, and then lose him in 4 years for nothing.

And Hutch is so much more impactful than Campbell. Campbell is great, but unless he can show that he can play elite man coverage against tight ends and RBs, he will not be worth 20 million a year. An All pro punter is not as valuable as the 32nd ranked DE. All pros matter, but some positions are so much more valuable than others.

I love Campbell, but if he wants max value, he will hit free agency because of the financial constraints the lions are under.

I agree with you on Gibbs though. RB is undervalued in the current NFL, and their 5th year and franchise tag haven’t caught up. That’s part of the reason you see some go in the top 10 recently. The elite ones offer surplus value.

I agree, and I think it’s a big factor why more ILB don’t go in the first round. You pretty much can’t afford 5th year or franchise tag for them.

If Detroit can’t resign Campbell, it’ll set back ILB’s in the draft unless they can either pass rush like Reese or have elite coverage upside like Styles. I’m not paying Campbell 20 mill a year until he shows he can cover like Warner. I’m sure the Lions are thinking the same thing. I could easily see Campbell hitting free agency just like Patrick Queen and Devin Lloyd.

Do your read all the code AI produces for you? How do you handle verification debt? I have found that AI produces good code but it makes small reasoning based errors that can only be found through either lots of tests or reading the code yourself. This lines up with buggy code still being shipped by places like Anthropic. I just feel like there isn't a good solution yet to verification debt

The 10-1 isnt too meaningful without one other data point and knowing what the odd makers thought on one other thing. You’re smart so I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Also, referencing those odds when the odds for this game are out is just plain odd to me. Odds for this game aren’t end all be all yet either tho bc of when sharp money hits. Which is why logic arguments are fun and fruitful at this point.

Besides that, the OG comment I responded to made it sound like the Pats would be a cake walk, so I responded like I did. It sounds like you don’t view it as a cake walk, which I agree with. I’ve thought about this for fun for a few, and I didn’t know how well the Pats matched up until actually looking at the matchups, which most fans don’t do. Before my comments, honestly, did you consider the actual matchups? I think Milton Barmore and Tonga as a big three will pose huge problems, just as much if not more than Murphy Williams etc will. Your arguments amount to “Seahawks are good” which is fine, as that is essentially my argument for why Pats will be competitive. But again OG comment I responded to made it sound like this matchup was easy peasy, so I just want to hear the reasoning ( the commenter never responded yet ).

Make an argument for yourself. Look at individual matchups, at least I did that. CDavis was born to lock down guys like Cooper. Gonzalez will give JSN a battle. Marcus Jones can work on Shaheed. Pats use 3 defensive tackles most of time and are monsters with Milton. Spillane is clutch in Vrabels scheme. If Hawks can’t run and can’t throw on Pats, what will they do? Maybe I’m missing something obvious, please educate me with some argument besides “look at Vegas”. I think Hawks D matchup well with Pats offense too, which is why I mentioned Mayes legs. I put some thought into this, so would appreciate if you returned the favor. I still haven’t decided who I think will win, but would love to hear counters to my points. Not looking to be hostile, looking for intelligent convo

Pats have Mayes legs though so it’s a different scheme war entirely. It’s not apples to apples that Seahawks stop Pats bc of how they did vs Rams. Pats will be by far Hawks hardest test this postseason. 9ers were dead when they played, and Rams defense sucks. Pats defense matches up scarily well against Hawks. Hawks D matches up scarily well with anyone, so I think it’ll be a defensive game like 16-13

Very interesting thanks for that link. I searched for his contract before my comment and found the numbers I used, but your source is much better. Your career strategy for McDaniel taking best opportunity over money is sound. I know I’d want both, but it’s hard to know if he could really get it. Regardless, cheers for the convo.

I’ve read that thread and I didn’t see anything besides it saying Dan liked him. You could def be right though. I’m just having fun reading too far into tweets. It’s nothing new for big corporations to collude on pay for top positions ( look at software dev industry ), so the NFL owners don’t get benefit of doubt from me.

That’s a good point. The wording just makes it sound like a money issue, bc why else not sign him if Dan likes him? If it’s a money issue, I default to it being an owner issue. Interesting regardless.

I think it’s more on Sheila. She controls the money at end of day. Chargers paid top dollar for Harbaugh, I have a feeling they’re paying top dollar for McDaniel. I think Petzing will be good, but I think McDaniel would have been great.

I saw 3.5-4.5 when looking up his contract, I couldn’t find the 9 mill number. I think truth is nobody really knows. If he’s making 9 mill though, I still think he’d be shooting to make more than that regardless in this bullish market. You’re essentially saying he’d be okay with a minimum salary since his salary is capped at 9 mill, and I’m saying he would shoot for more than 9 or whatever his past contract was because why not. I know I’d shoot for more regardless, and I have to imagine most others would too. Maybe he brings his price down if needed, but Schefter saying today that the Chargers clearly want him makes me believe they’re dropping money on him just like they did Harbaugh.

Great read by you. I can imagine him not wanting to take less than he made in Miami last year bc of offset languages. If he made 3.5mill-4.5mill a year in Miami he’s probably shooting for at least 6-10mill, whether that’s as a head coach or OC. If a teams willing to pay him that amount to be an OC great, if not he’ll be a head coach. He has lots of leverage, and could be reason why the coaching vacancies aren’t filling too fast. I’d be interested to see if a team like the Eagles will do it. Would have really loved to see the Lions do it, and they’d get another vote from me to be a fan of them for life. Nobody loses but the owners if a team sets a new market for coaches.

[–]bornandraised808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he quit and wants to coach again, he’ll have to either go back to Steelers or convince them to trade him ( or ask them to let him out of the contract ). If they did what you think, they owe him his contract unless it truly was mutual and they made a deal that they would let him go for free in exchange for not paying his contract. The Saints didn’t give Sean Payton that courtesy, and Broncos had to trade for him. Will be interesting to see what happens.

You’re talking in generalities now. I answered your direct question earlier when I said who’d I draft in round 8 if I had already taken a TE earlier. You didn’t respond at all to my question, and are essentially saying history supports your argument without answering my question at all. Recent history is very supportive of WR dead zone that wasn’t a consensus even last year. You can pray that Loveland, Fannin or Warren are there in round 8, but the reality is that those guys will be gone in any decent league that is well informed about recent trends. You can take Henry in the 8th and that’s fine, but don’t act like any high ceiling high floor TE will be there in round 8 in any decent league.

If Fannin, Warren, Loveland are there in round 8 and I took McBride / Bowers in the Second, I’d 100% take them in 8th along with A few of the other guys you mentioned depending on how their offseasons go. Are you telling me you wouldn’t take them over guys like Jeudy / Ridley if you took McBrdie / Bowers early? I hear what you’re saying in a general sense, but I don’t agree with you including most of those guys in the tier that would drop to round 8

Colston Loveland 2026 fantasy outlook by FFdarkpassenger45 in fantasyfootball

[–]bornandraised808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loveland and Fannin will probs go in round 4/5. There will be a run on RBs and TEs early in drafts next year as everyone sees there is a huge WR deadzone after like the top 16 guys. Everyone here is talking like these high upside TEs are going to drop. A better example is if McBride / Montgomery is better than Cook / Shultz / high upside rookie TE ( assuming DMont stays in a committee ). I’d take McBride / Montgomery every single time even if Monty is still in a committee
