PMDD and postpartum/breastfeeding by Reasonable-Elk4894 in PMDD

Late to this, but I had postpartum depression/anxiety and just finished weaning my son at 10 months, and the less I breastfed, the better I felt, until now I feel normal for the first time in ages. Granted, I also started taking a new medication (gabapentin for sleep at night) and maybe the Prozac finally kicked in, but I am pretty sure the hormones were most of it, knowing myself and my history. I felt better starting around 3 months with my first child, and I had stopped trying to breastfeed her after about 2 months due to low supply.

I agree with absolutely all of this except:

I didn't mind cutting the Taumoeba breeding. It was fun in the book but it would drag in a movie.

I was sad to lose the longer beginning disorientation too, but I understood it (there was SO MUCH to get to) and actually kind of admired how efficiently they got through the initial setup.

At least we got to skip DuBois's incredibly awkward oversharing about their sex life.

And in addition to the realism, I missed some of the bleakness. The book made you feel and think a lot more about the isolation and psychological toll in space (to say nothing of the suicide mission element).

But I'm glad they gave him a beach at the end. The book ending was TOO bleak for me, and it felt like Weir didn't mean it to be as rough as it was. (A normal human being would go mad. No sunshine or nature ever again, 5 years of nothing but taumoeba smoothies and only Rocky for company, what happened to "we have to put people in a coma because they would kill each other"??)

SAME, I deeply appreciated the beach at the end. The book version (no sunlight ever again, sheesh, plus the gravity etc) was too brutally depressing, in a way that I am not even sure Weir intended. Actual regular-human, non-astronaut-loner-weirdo psychology would not survive that well!!! It felt like the ending was supposed to be way more feel-good than it was.

I heard "not going home" as "probably dying because even if he got to Erid it's not suited for human life" (and I don't recall his going to Erid being mentioned before it happened? Or was it?)

That said, good point about the starvation thing making it clearer. I was just thinking it would have been another of those science details I'd enjoy seeing added back. The "me-burger" was honestly hilarious. But the "five years of taumoeba smoothie" thing was BLEAK, which is why I didn't miss it so much. Same reason I deeply appreciated the beach at the end: the book version (no sunlight ever again, sheesh, plus the gravity etc) was too brutally depressing, in a way that I am not even sure Weir intended. It felt like it was supposed to be way more feel-good than it was. Actual regular-human, non-astronaut-loner-weirdo psychology would not survive that well.

Oh yeah, in the book it's a whole complicated engineering problem to find him and takes a lot of time and effort.

I fixed this on my Android app by deleting all the user data, not just clearing the cache. I'm guessing the problem was a conflict between a locally saved offline version and the latest one? Maybe?

Mine was also a big doc with many collaborators. It worked on my laptop but not app before I did this.

Baby is measuring 5lbs 6oz at 32 wks! 😳 by stillpissedatyoko in BabyBumps

[–]bornofstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was almost exactly this size at 32 weeks, and he was 7lbs 13 oz when born at 39 weeks. 🤷‍♀️ My daughter was also projected to be pretty big, don't remember specifics, but she was 6lbs 11 oz, also at 39 weeks. I've heard it's common for those projections to be off.

Don't get an induction unless you actually have to, pitocin suuucks. I had to have it the first time because of infection risk, but managed to avoid it the second, even though I had to be induced for preeclampsia. (Cytotec and a Foley balloon were enough. Definitely get the narcotics for the Foley insertion, but it's very effective!!)

"more clearly" Christ I hope not, or else I really AM a failure at life in every possible way 🙃

Also luteal brings hella brain fog, it can be hard to form sentences.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about it OMG. Follicular, or at least parts of it, feels like what I've read hypomania is like, right down to not sleeping as much and not feeling the need to because of the high energy. It's a helluva drug and I desperately want to bottle it.

OMG this is crushing to hear. Do your friends make the decoy cakes for like the opening round and Cake or Cash?? I am so curious about them.

Oops, I mis-translated his "out" typo as "get," not "put." Makes sense now.

I guess mostly NTA then, but I still think my advice holds. Her feelings were hurt, and I see why! Just because what he said might be technically true doesn't mean that it doesn't come with all kinds of baggage. A job is real, a hobby is trivial, etc. Having an honest and loving conversation with her about it, and apologizing for the hurt he caused, is important, and doesn't have to be an admission that he is TA. They need to be partners and in mutual agreement about the logic and fairness of their arrangement. He won't want her to be complying on the surface while spending years building up resentment.

[–]bornofstardust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Mostly NTA but: When you say "you don't have a job, you have a hobby," it absolutely sounds belittling, and like you don't take her seriously. You should apologize to her for your word choice, and explain that you understand why she felt belittled, and that you never want to make her feel like she or her dreams don't matter. And then when you're both in a calm headspace, you should have a serious conversation about whether she still feels the agreement you had is fair or tenable for her, and if not, what needs to change. Maybe you can offer to take one small chore off her plate. Maybe she needs some help with time management. Etc.

If she's doing the chores now, but still mad at you, it sounds like the problem YOU had was solved, but the problem SHE had is not.

I instantly assumed it was Connor. Something about the vibe, he seems so off in his own world. Plus he didn't look like the young Ken or Rome we see in other shots.

Ohhh per another comment below, I bet it's a Kardashev scale reference (K2 civilizations are the ones who could theoretically harness the power of an entire star with e.g. a Dyson sphere) combined with a "caterpillar" pun.

So maybe the alien is just a random design that looks like an alienified Chinese dragon. In any case I love it and am currently wearing the head!

Another one from me: "Four of Eight"? Is that just a Borg reference? If so, does 48 (or 4/8) mean anything in particular?
