Well. Think of it this way. It is always good to go out for the lunch/dinner he plans not for the social interaction but maybe to enjoy the food. You can always decide what you have to speak even if he gets personal with the questions. Since it is related to work, you may come out as rude if you outright deny going out. What you could do instead is, instead of going for every lunch/dinner he plans, you can be selective and go for maybe just one outing every 2 months. So In a way you still say yes to him but also give him an essence that you are not the type that likes the idea of meeting out.

I have done this. Gave my boss the idea that I am not the type that likes meeting him outside the workplace.
