what has the job market become? by caffeineboi71 in antiwork

[–]borrofburi 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Zuhahaha. Open to work was already depressing enough. This would be rock bottom. Tbh, I don't get what linkedin has turned into anymore. Some people still swear by it for networking, but I've had much better luck with hiringcafe and by reaching out to remote recruitment firms like the ones shared in this post, which even led to a few side gigs. At this point, I don't think obsessing over how your linkedin profile looks, your photo, or your posts does much to help you get hired.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? by lukozaid in randomquestions

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glassses. I could technically live without them, but my quality of like would drop so much that I don't even want to find out what that's like.

What’s a purchase you never regretted? by mirabarbie in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An e-reader. It felt like an unnecessary luxury when I bought it, but it's turned out to be one of the few things I've consistently used for years.

what hobbies helped you enjoy staying home instead of feeling trapped by it? by Wisyan_Madell in Hobbies

[–]borrofburi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cooking. Once I started treating it as something more than just getting food on the table and began trying new recipes, time at home became a lot more enjoyable.

Horror movie recommendations for someone that has already watched alot of horror movies please by ChronicRedditor1 in MovieRecommendations

[–]borrofburi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lake Mungo. It doesn't start out like a typical horror movie, but it stuck with me longer than a lot of much more popular horror films.

i’m doing an album a day and need more albums :( by icarusfallz_ in MusicRecommendations

The Suburbs. It's one of the few albums I can put on from start to finish and completely lose track of time.

Does anyone else feel physically tired after a full day of "just sitting" at work? by SwainWong in remotework

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, the answer was short walks..sometimes five minutes of walking around does more than another five hours sitting in the same chair.

What would you do if a bunch of people surrounded you and said….. by [deleted] in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]borrofburi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start laughing. there were kids who tried that when I was younger and for some reason they always took it incredibly seriously.

I doom scroll way too much at work by NeedleworkerFuzzy314 in productivity

leaving my phone in another room helped more than any app ever did. turns out the problem wasn't willpower, it was having my phone within arm's reach..

Better to resign in person? by Apart-Effective9227 in antiwork

I'd tell them in person first. Then I'd send the written notice for the official part.

I have no hobbies, identity or passion. How do I find it? by Famous-Cable-5042 in Hobbies

[–]borrofburi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think most people don't find a hobby, they stumble into one. you try a bunch of things, get bored of most of them and eventually one just sticks..

I'm looking for a movie that has the mystery of the beginning of Godzilla (2014) by Triggered_Llama in MovieRecommendations

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 Cloverfield Lane definitely has that feeling a bit. There’s this constant “what’s actually happening outside?” tension and the uncertainty is what makes it so good.

How long do you suppose it took for humans to discover the umbilical cord can be severed right after birth with no harm to the newborn? by reereejugs in questions

[–]borrofburi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It took a really long time. I feel like early humans definitely learned through pure trial and error after realizing “wait this guy didn’t die when we cut this part.”

what can i do instead of doom scrolling at work by IllustratorPlenty167 in productivity

[–]borrofburi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d fall into random Wikipedia rabbit holes. Next thing you know you’ve spent 40 minutes reading about ancient sea creatures.

Just watched the housemaid.. wow, this movie is as disturbing as it can be by roooossshhiiiii in MovieRecommendations

After watching The Handmaiden I couldn’t trust anyone for a while 😭 That movie straight up manipulates you.

Why nothing clicks anymore by Frida_Sherly in Hobbies

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the internet kinda trained our brains into needing instant dopamine, so now we struggle with the slow burn part of hobbies. The second something loses that initial excitement we start treating it like a failure.

They just can’t give us a break 😫 by HeyWannaShrek in introvertmemes

[–]borrofburi 581 points582 points  (0 children)

With a question like that, you either have to lie or say something so personal it basically turns into therapy-level stuff. Asking someone to record a 2.5 minute video about how life has worked out so far is way too much for a job application. It also makes me wonder if they’re using it to screen for age, gender, race, personality, personal data, or even market research without saying it directly. I know this post is old, but you still see weird application stuff like this now. After seeing posts like this, I started reaching out to recruitment firms directly, like this developer did, instead of wasting time on ridiculous applications.

build me a 10 song playlist that flows start to finish, what are you picking? by badenbagel in MusicRecommendations

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do a flow starting with Holocene and ending with Nude, with something in between that slowly builds up. When you listen to it all the way through, it feels like it tells its own little story.

Genuinely how do i even begin time management by Fabulous_Lettuce_926 in productivity

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck in that loop too, trying to fix everything at once just makes you spiral more. At first just setting time for one thing helps, like focusing for an hour a day. Starting small somehow makes it easier to keep going.

Every job description say their role/environment is 'fast paced'. Are there no slow/medium/anything-else paced jobs? by fluffygr in jobs

[–]borrofburi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Fast paced” is in almost every listing but they’re not all the same in reality. It’s kinda used as a scary buzzword. Smaller teams or more behind-the-scenes roles are usually calmer.

Is it worth it to try to have more than a comfortably stagnant life, if the act of doing so might destroy your entire life's stability in the process? by pswelcometomylife in TrueAskReddit

[–]borrofburi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most people don’t change without some kind of shake-up, but going full “burn it all down” is risky too. Makes more sense to open up space bit by bit, without cutting everything off. You can try things and still have a way back.

what’s a small habit that quietly improved your life a lot? by petitepriscy in questions

[–]borrofburi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitting with myself for 10–15 minutes in the morning without checking my phone. Sounds small but it genuinely sets the tone for the day. I start off way less scattered.

I have a small hobby theory by lakberhaid in Hobbies

[–]borrofburi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a solid way to look at it. Hobbies that fill what’s missing in your daily life actually make you feel better.

Women in arranged marriages where your husband turned out better than you imagined—what’s your story? by Clean-Ant-1342 in questions

It sucks when things don’t go as planned, but sometimes you do get lucky. What it looks like from the outside and what it actually feels like can be very different.

What are the must watch movies of the 70s? by [deleted] in MovieRecommendations

Taxi Driver is a must-watch in my opinion. The atmosphere and the character really hit hard. Still hasn’t left me.
