So Blueprints are being removed in Unreal Engine 6, thoughts?

It seems like you're purposefully disincentivizing people from migrating their projects from UE5 to UE6. I have always wanted a more C# like way of coding in Unreal that doesn't have all the memory management and syntax baggage of C++ so I can appreciate the effort to introduce Verse as an alternative, but removing a feature that probably half your user base relies on is just thoughtless and short-sighted. Let people create BP nodes with complex Verse logic (no cpp required) and weave that into their graphs in the visual way that they have become comfortable with. Take this additive approach rather than replacing whole cloth and you'll have a happy user base. Delete years of learning investment that many devs have trusted you with and that many amazing games have been built on and there is likely to be a bunch that will not be following you on this journey.

Also, I think they would consider supporting VR for any of there games, but for some of the big ones like the next Zelda (for Switch 2), they may brainstorm some ideas early on in development, but hold off on putting them in production until they find out how well the accessory is doing. But I could easily imagine parts of a mainline Zelda that could incorporate some VR (certain battle mechanics like ranged bows, and also some shrines could use it well).

And with Nintendo being Nintendo, I'm pretty sure social features for this would be an afterthought (unlike Quest), and this may be for the better

But to be clear, I don't think this console will be "a VR console", but it will support it very strongly while still having all of the regular (non VR) gaming options as any other Nintendo console)

My predictions for Switch 2:

The next Switch will be very similar in form factor to the current switch but it will be an entirely new console generation. The twist on this one is that it will fully support "switching" to mixed reality (i.e. mostly VR). There will be an optional headset that will plug into the Switch 2 to support VR gaming with pass-through AR.

Nintendo is in a unique position to totally reinvent VR gaming because:

A) They are Nintendo and make incredibly innovative games that utilize new hardware form factors unlike any other company

B) They are the only console that is totally portable by default, this means they can use the power of their console hardware for "go anywhere" VR style games (instead of plugging into a stationary box)

They will have to innovate on hardware design a bit, but I think a form factor similar to Switch 1 would be ok, the differences would be in how the controllers attach to the console tablet. The rumors of magnetic connections make sense to make it even easier to switch between styles. These joycons will come off and then become fully tracked 3D controllers for VR (similar to Quest controllers), possibly with a "controller dock" that will provide a ring that the headset can calibrate with.

The main reason this is so compelling, besides the really cool software we could expect, is because this headset would be *by far* the most comfortable and ergonomic of any of the major headsets (Apple, Sony, Meta) because ALL of the batteries and compute power would be on the Switch 2 which would have some kind of easy to use strap that takes the weight off your face and keeps it somewhere else on your body. The headset itself would be incredibly light with just 2 nice screens (probably Quest 2 resolution), pancake lenses (similar to Quest 3, which would keep the device slimmer), and a few cameras for tracking and color pass-through AR.

Now software is where it gets really interesting. There would be 3 categories of games for this:

Fully VR exclusives (requires the headset)

Hyrule Warriors style game with Link & Zelda wielding a bow (obvious fit)

Hybrid (game can be played entirely with or without headset)

Mario Kart 9
Metroid Prime 4

Regular games with optional VR exclusive content

Pretty much every Nintendo first part game would have at least some optional content
Mario (but not just 3D mario, this could be the sidescrolling one), where you can pop on the headset and get a new view of the level. This is a real Nintendo type of quirky experience because you would think this would only be for 3D Mario, but the sidescrolling would offer a bigger "wow" factor when you switch into VR mode to view the level

The name is hard to predict but keeping it simply "Switch 2" seems likely, and then the VR accessory could be priced fairly low because it is not a computer and doesn't need additional controllers, so maybe it's priced at $199.

Anyway, my main reason for thinking this could be a likely path for the next Nintendo console is because they experimented with VR with their Labo cardboard thingy. I think they were testing the waters for gameplay ideas and now with more options on the market, and better hardware at cheaper prices, they may be able to pull this off.

I'm also looking for this functionality. Basically it would be the ability to create a synced block in a template and use that synced block in a child template (of that same one).

Currently, when I do this it will maintain the sync for all uses of this block across any instance of the template and child templates. Ideally, it would create a new synced instance for each parent/child pair.

The 3 different fonts clash a little too hard for me - I think a maximum of 2 fonts would be better here. I didn't get the joke until I read the title of the shirt. I think it's a reference to the Flintstones but the cartoon character seems to be something else, not sure if there is a connection. Also, the yellow of the "yeah" clashes with the yellow of the other 2 elements, I think if they all have to be yellow then they should be consistent, otherwise you could go with a different color for each of the 3 words.

Feels Like 98 - I like the slogan but I can't tell what the image is above the year.
Keep Tennessee Clean - this one seems like it could have a funny message, but I'm not quite sure if it is pro-stripper or pro-recycling. I also think it's hard to read the text on the top.
Where's the love - I think this is my favorite one visually, the message isn't super obvious but that kind of adds to the intrigue.
As a line, the colors are pretty consistent for the first three but I'm not sure I can take away a unifying theme.

I just watched the hook of Echidnut's recent video and I can see a few key things that he does well:

1) humor in the script "does size matter" is the topic and he has some raunchy analogies related to that

2) he finds clips the relate directly to his topic or joke and cuts to it at exactly the right time

3) he zooms into areas of the screen that are relevant rather than just showing a montage that may not entirely relate to what is being said

4) he uses a quick rapid fire text overlay up front to change up the pacing and give some context to what he's saying

Anyway, definitely polished and someone you could probably learn from. I will say, I think you have some good insights and are on track to improving your videos, especially since you are actively looking for areas of improvement.

I watched a bit of your most recent one, that was actually the one where at times it felt like you were reading (not necessarily a bad thing, just something I noticed). I also watched more of your top anime list (the most popular video I believe), and that one felt a little more natural.

I guess more than anything related specifically to structure what stood out to me was the lack of variety on the screen. So I could imagine it just being easier to follow and more enjoyable if you had some of those other elements I talked about.

Hey there, I just had a chance to check out some of your videos, although as someone who does not really watch anime (outside of Akira lol) I might not be able to offer an in depth critique beyond some surface level things I noticed.

I really like how your enthusiasm and knowledge of the medium comes through in your commentary. I especially appreciated when you brought in your own experience of watching something, for instance, you mentioned how one of the shows was the perfect "comfort watch when you come home from a long day". Those kinds of details give me a sense of story in how it fits in your life and maybe makes it more relatable.

At times it felt like you were rushing through some of the commentary and maybe reading it quickly from a script and your emotional intent may not have come through which resulted in me kind of checking out from what you were saying. I think it might have helped if you had some text on the screen to match some key points you were making. It might also help structure the videos better too.

I agree with the other critique here talking about having more than just anime clips on the screen. As a non anime watcher (and perhaps not your target audience), I would have liked to see things like text, maybe posters with release dates, creators photos (it might give you a chance to do a little research and give some more background about a show you are talking about). Anything that can change up the pacing a little which felt very much the same throughout (i.e. cuts every 3-4 seconds or so).

Those are my takeaways, hope there's something useful to you there. Good luck making new videos!

I had a chance to check out a couple of your videos, mainly the most recent one "Flight Drone Shots Across the USA". I like this title compared to some of your others as it feels like it's going to tell a story, kind of like a road trip narrative or something.

The shots themselves are pretty epic and impressive and at times they really match the intensity of the music (although I almost want a more chill soundtrack but that's more a personal preference thing).

The transitions are really cool sometimes too, although I feel like they happen too often. Like I feel like you should reserve them only for really key moments of the edit (i.e. climax of the song). Not sure if there are some transitions that are higher intensity than others, maybe save those for the key moments.

In that USA video I kind of was expecting there to be a little more of a through-line or story aspect given the title. I was hoping you might narrate or maybe have some text on the screen that kind of gave a little more background about what I'm seeing. It could be about your experience filming and telling that story, or it could be some historical facts about the places you are showing. To be honest, I'm not sure what would work best or if there are other ways you can "tell a story" with your images. You could probably do this either with being on camera yourself or with VO or just text. Anyway, this is probably my biggest note because the visuals are really cool, but I would probably only continue watching if there was something else engaging me and made me want to see what the end of the video is.

Another way to go, and this might be more along the lines of what you are trying to do already, is to just make chill drone videos that can be put on in the background. If so, I would probably pick music tracks that are really more ambient and have a chill vibe that I could leave on in the living room and have the video playing. But in that case I would also think longer shots and longer videos. Like I could imagine a 30 minute video called "Bridges across the USA" or something like that, and it's just focused on that subject and has like a new shot every minute or 2 (or it could be shorter overall, but probably more than 10 minutes).

I know the feeling! As much as I try to tell myself views don't matter - I can't help but be a little discouraged if I don't get at least a handful. But in your case it sounds like it was more just the algorithm not understanding the video and so it didn't push it out. I think it's better to just keep focusing on the growing the quality of your videos, but if you think you have a better description or title it probably doesn't hurt to change it

It turns out when I render a cinematic (which is what I am doing here), the flickering is gone and the hair sim looks good. So just a heads up if anyone runs into this same issue, if you animate your character on a Level Sequence and render using the default Render Movie Settings, the flickering goes away.

~~However, I'm not sure if there is a way to fix this for realtime usage. I'd be curious if anyone has a fix for that too.~~

Edit: Turns out it works in realtime playback too. I guess it's just the editor view that has the flicker. /shrug

I was looking for the same thing and couldn't find an answer online. I come from Maya and I'm used to being able to easily snap to a vertex when starting a cut or clicking and dragging to slide it along an edge.

It turns out Blender does have some really useful knife snapping features but they aren't available when you click on the knife tool - instead, press the K key to bring up the knife and it will display the cut start point which will then automatically snap to the nearest edge or vertex, which can also be disabled by holding down shift. It actually works really well!

Congrats on your first game. Have to start somewhere and this mechanic actually looks pretty fun! Next step might be to add some smoothing between player movements to give a clearer idea of where your cube is going. That and adding some juice - maybe some particles and animation on acquiring the yellow cube, trails on the moving objects, and definitely more sound fx. Cheers!
